Michael Burns Pender Harbour, ridden by Luis Contreras, scores as the even-money favorite im the Bunty Lawless.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — The favored Pender Harbour captured the $126,200 Bunty Lawless Stakes for the second year in a row under Luis Contreras on Sunday at Woodbine.

The popular Chantal Sutherland finished seventh on Pender Harbour’s full brother, Crushin Hard, and said after the race that it was the final ride of her career. Crushin Hard is owned in part by her father, Hugh Sutherland.

Pender Harbour tracked the dueling leaders Red Eagle and Welloiledmachine on the outside in the one-mile turf route. He took control early in the stretch, en route to a 2 1/2-length score over a closing Good Better Best, the 3-1 second choice. The longshot Mey’s Rocket checked in six lengths back in third in the 11-horse field of Ontario-sired runners.

“He’s a gorgeous horse to ride,” said Contreras.

Pender Harbour ($4) covered the distance over good ground in 1:36.83. Trained by Mike DePaulo, he earned $75,000 for the partnership of Dennis Andrews, Sandra Lazaruk, and Bob and Roberta Giffin.
