Race 1- OSS Grassroots - $50K GTD Pick 5

Tough race to kick off this Pick 5. I’ll side with (4) CLASS ANGEL, who seems sure-gaited this year and fits well here. (5) MERCEDES TALMA has shown she has enough speed to take this; her gait is the big question. (1) CAMBRIDGE KATE is another who can win this if she stays flat. This race could turn into survival of those that stay trotting. (8) KASHE has a great record and she has been sure-gaited this year; consider at a price for the exotics.

Race 2 - OSS Grassroots

(9) SHESA SWEETHEART squandered a win by breaking late last time. She can go all the way here if she minds her manners. (3) GODDESS OF SPEED is by a good young sire and she looks ready to produce a decent effort in her debut. (7) ANGELIC SPEED closed late for a good piece of the City of London Final at Western Fair on Friday and she can do the same here if she goes. (5) JUSTICE SOCIETY closed a bit of ground last time and now she gets a better post; consider for the Tri and Super.

Race 3 - Claiming Handicap $8K - $10K

(3) WESTERN PHIL gets Drury here, which can mean that a front-end blast is coming on the class drop. I’ll give him the nod. (2) LUKE AND DUKE gets Lasix and some class relief. He can wake up in this spot. (8) BEST TO HURST is worthy of a long look off the claim in a race where there are no standouts. (10) OUTLAW GUNPOWDER is an obvious contender on paper, but starting out there, he may be best used underneath.

Race 4 - NW $3K Last 5 starts or $7K last 10 starts - $50K GTD Pick 4

(2) VEYRON ships back home, gets class relief and his favorite driver back. He should wake up in this spot. (3) SETANTA also drops but he is often trip-dependent, so it’s hard to accept a small price on him. (5) BLAMEITONTHEWHISKY drops, but he’s another win-shy sort. He is certainly capable here, but he may need a trip. (1) ESQUIRE goes back to top trot man Henriksen and he is worth a look for the exotics.

Race 5 - 4YO and younger NW 1 race or $7K Lifetime

(6) MARCUS SEELSTER seems primed for a good sophomore debut and he gets the nod in a race with no standout. (2) ARCANE SEELSTER comes off an improved effort and he should trip well here; using. (5) SHADOW TAIL finished just behind the choice and I like that Roy drove him in both qualifiers; using. (1) BIG BULLY will take money again, but this is his 14th try and he seems more likely to take a smaller share.

Race 6 - OSS Grassroots

(9) AIM HIGH HANOVER was a nice debut winner with the trainer driving at Flamboro in what should be a perfect primer for the sires stakes debut; top call. (6) REBELLIOUS LADY has some Grassroots lines from last year that put her right there if she can stay flat this time. (1) PERISTERA is bred too well to ignore here and she could be a huge price. (10) GALAXY SEELSTER had a good effort from this post to kick off the year; consider for the exotics at a price.

Race 7 - NW $10K Last 5 or $20K Last 10

(2) SHOSHIE DEO drops and his identical 27 4/5 kickers from his past two starts will play well here. More aggression is expected from this gelding. (5) SHES GOT PIA raced much better last time in a good field and she could pop here now that she seems to be approaching her best form again. (8) ST JAMES GATE will take big play dropping from the top class, but he can be quirky and he’s not the kind that I can take at odds-on. (3) OLD JACK MAGIC races well for Roy and he can get a piece of this.

Race 8 - F+M 5YO & Younger NW 3 or $48,500 Lifetime

(5) APOTHIC was unlucky last time when the winner closed like a wild horse late. She looks best here and will be my Late Pick 4 single. (2) BIDFORA

HUG was just behind the choice and she should be an exacta factor here. (3) ARRIVAL and (4) WINDSONG OLYMPIA both merit a look for the bottom of Tri and Super bets.

Race 9 - OSS Grassroots

(1) LEFKADA had a nice opener in which she made several moves and just missed. She gets top call here. (7) HALO ITS ME is hard to toss considering she is perfect so far. I’ll use her in this Pick 4. (6) SPLURGE ON ME can improve with Henry in the bike here. I’ll use her in this late Pick 4. (3) WARRAWEE ULTRA can take a share here if she stays on stride.

Race 10 - NW $3K Last 5 or NW $7K Last 10

(3) BETWEEN THE SHEETS has some back lines that are good enough to win this and his recent form is a bit darkened; top call. (2) COOL ROCK will get hammered on the class drop and he should be tough here. (4) CAMMANDER RUFF can get a great trip here and take a slice. (1) NOTETOSELF HANOVER is also in a good spot here to get a nice following trip and get on the Super ticket. (9) GOLD STAR DIABLO is worth a look for the exotics coming off a good effort for Team Cullen.
