Woodbine Mohawk Park: Treacherous Reign, Warrawee Ubeaut dominate Fan Hanover elims

Treacherous Reign and Warrawee Ubeaut both caught the eye with powerful performances in winning the pair of C$35,000 Fan Hanover eliminations for sophomore pacing fillies on Saturday night at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Up first was Treacherous Reign (Dexter Dunn), who overcame post ten with aplomb, winning in a career-best 1:50. She showed enough speed from the outside slot to tuck into fourth going to the 26 2/5 opening quarter, and then Dunn fired her to the point in the second quarter. After a soft half in just 56 seconds, Treacherous Reign picked up the tempo to 1:23 2/5 at three-quarters, and she pulled away through the stretch drive, utilizing a 26 3/5 final quarter to prevail by 2 1/2 lengths. Beautyonthebeach (Doug McNair) also successfully dealt with post nine, finishing second, and Trillions Hanover (David Miller) made it a 10-9-8 trifecta by rallying for third. Also moving on to the final were Deb (Jody Jamieson) and St Somewhere (Matt Kakaley).
"The beauty of her racing in Pennsylvania is that they learn to go forward off the gate because they have to be forwardly-placed to do well on the five-eighths mile track," remarked winning trainer Tony Alagna. "Before the race Dexter and I talked, and he said 'I'm going to go out of there,' and I said 'yeah, of course, you've got to, you can't sit tenth.' It worked out good.
"She just gets over the ground so easy, and you don't even realize what she's doing. She had plenty of go, and she was wrapped up down by the wire. That's how you want any elimination to go."
Alagna Racing LLC., Big Als Stables, Let It Ride Stables Inc., and Dana Parham own Treacherous Reign, a daughter of Captaintreacherous. This was her seventh career victory, and she has now earned C$290,365. She was the 4-5 favorite and paid $3.90 to win.
One race later Warrawee Ubeaut (Yannick Gingras) took to the track from post five, and she parked into the backstretch to get the lead away from Alagna-trained Tall Drink Hanover (Andrew McCarthy). On top by the 55 3/5 half, Warrawee Ubeaut swelled up once she reached the point, ripping through three-quarters in 1:22 4/5 and sealing the deal with a 26 2/5 last panel to win by a length and three-quarters in 1:49 1/5. Tall Drink Hanover was a solid second, followed by Stonebridge Soul (Dunn), Beach Bar (Tim Tetrick), and Powerful Chris (Bob McClure).
"When they opened up, I actually was happy, I was going to race her from behind," said Gingras. "There were four or five of them leaving out of there pretty good, but already at the eighth pole they were starting to grab up already. I knew I was going to be maybe first-up from fifth or sixth, and that was just too far to come, so I just let her grind her way to the front. She took care of the rest.
"I think tonight she's as good as she's been. Of course the mile in 48 in Lexington (last year) was impressive, but I think this is even more impressive. Lexington is Lexington, but 1:49 1/5 here, as easy as she did it tonight, it's a scary mile."
Warrawee Ubeaut, a filly by Sweet Lou, is trained by Ron Burke for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., Phil Collura, Jandt Silva Purnel & Libby, and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. She made her tenth appearance in the winner's circle, and she has now banked C$721,115. The 4-5 public choice, she returned $3.60 to win.
