Tall Dark Stranger passed another test on Friday night at Woodbine Mohawk Park as the talented 2-year-old colt pacer won his C$108,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Series flight in 1:51 2/5, running his record to three-for-three.  Examiner Hanover won the other grouping, getting his first stakes triumph. Bettor At Hightide (Paul MacDonell) chopped out fractions of 26 3/5, 56, and 1:24 in the race, but Tall Dark Stranger (Yannick Gingras), who tucked in fifth from post eight, made a first-over move nearing the half that carried him to within a quarter of a length of the pace-setter at three-quarters.  In the lane Tall Dark Stranger overtook Bettor At Hightide, and it was all over from there as Tall Dark Stranger pulled clear to prevail by three lengths.  Sports Obsession (Trevor Henry) was the runner-up, with YS Mathis (Sylvain Filion) third. A colt by Bettor's Delight, Tall Dark Stranger, who was bred by Jim Avritt Sr. and fetched $330,000 at the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale, is trained by Nancy Johansson for owners Crawford Farms Racing, Marvin Katz, Caviart Farms, and Howard Taylor.  Out of the Art Major mare Precocious Beauty (1:50 1/5, $838,004), Tall Dark Stranger is a half-brother to Beautyonthebeach (1:50 4/5, $319,873).  Tall Dark Stranger has now earned C$68,000 to go with his unblemished record, and he paid $2.10 to win as the 1-9 favorite. "He's been a really nice colt from the beginning.  He's always done everything we've asked from him," offered Johansson.  "He's got a positive attitude, he's great-gaited, and he just does everything right.  Obviously when you buy a horse like him, he's got great pedigree, so you know he has the pedigree to play.  He's great conformationally, and he's just a beautiful individual to be around, but really once you put the harness on them, it doesn't matter what they cost.  They've got to bring something to the table, and so far he has." Woodbine Mohawk Park has several big events coming up the rest of the year for the rookie pacing colts and geldings, including the Breeders Crown, and if all goes according to plan, Tall Dark Stranger will be involved heavily in those contests. "He has another Gold coming up in a couple weeks. He also has the Nassagaweya, Champlain, and the Metro, so we have a lot of options," added Johansson.  "We've just got to kind of map out the right schedule for him.  Right now he's doing what we ask of him, so we'll see.  We'll take it one step at a time." Johansson and Gingras also teamed up the race before Tall Dark Stranger was victorious to get Kissin In The Sand into the winner's circle for the first time this season.  Last year's Dan Patch Award winner for top 3-year-old pacing filly in the U.S., Kissin In The Sand took a NW25000L5 pace for fillies and mares in 1:49 4/5 despite having a broken hobble hanger. Back in the first C$107,200 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Series division, Aneto (Gingras) rached up to get the lead at the 28 1/5 opening quarter, but favored One For Julius (Chris Christoforou) moved to the outside from third, and he would take control going to the 57 second half.  A first-over Wind Blown (J. Bradley Harris) then ramped up the pressure first-over on the far turn, but One For Julius was able to rebuff his bid to the 1:24 4/5 three-quarters and into the lane. In the stretch it appeared like One For Julius was pulling clear and might be on his way to victory, but then disaster struck just inside the eighth pole as he made a break and was guided safely off the track.  That left things wide-open to the wire, and it would be a second-over Examiner Hanover (Bob McClure) rallying for the win by a neck in 1:52 3/5.  Rhythm In Motion (Mario Baillargeon) skimmed the pylons and was second, with Aneto third. Casie Coleman trains Examiner Hanover, a colt from the first crop of He's Watching, for owners Brad Grant and Steve Heimbecker.  He now has a record of 2-0-0 from five tries, and he has pocketed C$71,440.  Bred by Hanover Shoe Farms Inc., Examiner Hanover is out of the Rocknroll Hanover mare EZ Rock, a half-sister to Hana Hanover (1:48 4/5, $1,206,644).  He was sent off at 2-1 and paid $6.70 to win. "I was real happy with him tonight.  I thought he was just going to explode and win easy off the trip he was getting.  Bob steered him perfect," said Coleman.  "Obviously we maybe weren't catching the #1 horse before he made a break.  I thought he should have exploded a little more than he did, but saying that then I looked at the fractions - 57 half, 52 mile, not too shabby.  So, yeah, I'm happy with him, but I still think he's a lot better yet. "This horse has been like a roller coaster and a half.  Early, I actually called Brad Grant and I said 'I think you need to try to give this horse back to Hanover Shoe Farms.' He was terrible.  We kept him, we kept going, and we found out some of his issues.  Chiropractor helped him a lot and some of our vets helped him a lot, figured out his issues.  He trained down great, and the first start, I gotta blame myself, his knee boots came down an that's what happened.  He went the entire mile with his knee boots down, and that was my own fault.  I should have checked them, and I didn't.  He's just had some misfortunes, but there's a lot of races left yet." Much like Tall Dark Stranger, Examiner Hanover could have a busy schedule coming up if Coleman opts to put him against open company. "I've got to talk to the owners.  I was waiting to see how tonight went, and it went good.  There's a possibility we'll go to some of the big ones - he's in the Champlain, Metro, and Nassagaweya," remarked Coleman.  "We're going to see how some of these other colts do coming up and then kind of make a decision."
