Woodbine Mohawk Park: Shartin readies for Roses Are Red with prep race romp
With no eliminations required, eight of the 11 open pacing mares that will compete in next Saturday night's C$330,000 Roses Are Red final at Woodbine Mohawk Park raced in a C$35,000 prep tonight at the Campbellville, Ontario, oval, with Shartin picking up another win.
Shartin (Tim Tetrick) pushed on to the point past the 26 2/5 opening quarter, wrestling command away from Caviart Ally (Andrew McCarthy), and it was pretty much academic from there. Shartin zipped through an uncontested half of 55 seconds, kept clear to the 1:22 4/5 three-quarters, and kept going through the final quarter, winning by a length and three-quarters in 1:48 4/5. Caviart Ally wound up second, and Youaremycandygirl (Yannick Gingras) came in third.
Seaswift Joy (fourth), Bettor Joy (fifth), Dont Think Twice (sixth), Kissin In The Sand (seventh), and Double A Mint (eighth) are the other mares from the race that will be back next week to tangle in the final.
This was career win number 33 for Shartin, a 6-year-old Tintin In America mare trained by Jim King Jr. for owners Richard Poillucci, Joann Looney-King, and Tim Tetrick LLC. She has now earned C$1,561,155, and she paid $2.80 to win as the 2-5 favorite.
