Woodbine Mohawk Park: Road to the Mohawk Million - Week 7

The inaugural Mohawk Million for 2-year-old trotters is here! On September 26 at Woodbine Mohawk Park, the $1,000,000 race for 2-year-old trotters will be the highlight of a 12-race card with purses over $2 million. Below is the field for the Mohawk Million (Race 10) along with commentary by DRF Harness Editor Derick Giwner and Woodbine handicapper Robert Reid Jr.
1-IZNOGOUD AM S (12-1) MARCUS MELANDER DOUG MCNAIR
Owner(s): Courant Inc.
Giwner: He has early speed to secure position from the tough inside post and rumor has it he is training well. Winless horse needs to improve.
Reid: Still a maiden and his best effort was a runner-up finish in the KYSS to Cuatro De Julio. He might be over his head.
2-WARRAWEE WHISPER (20-1) SHAWN STEACY JONATHAN DRURY
Owner(s): Mark Steacy, Natasha Rivest, Stephen Klunowski and Dr. Michael Wilson (Slot Owner: Glengate Farms)
Giwner: Is versatile, which will serve him well, though I'm betting on him showing early speed here. Needs to prove he's fast enough.
Reid: Another maiden that showed he can rough it first-over when he finished second to Macho Martini in the Champlain. Not confident he can go with these.
3-DONNA SOPRANO (2-1) LUC BLAIS BOB MCCLURE
Owner(s): Determination
Giwner: She is 100% the horse to beat, which shows once again how advanced fillies are at a young age. If she avoids trouble they are racing for second.
Reid: Five-for-five and has done it effortlessly to this point. She has earned her shot against the boys and has homefield advantage. Clearly the one to beat.
4-FULL OF MUSCLES (9-2) BRAD MAXWELL TREVOR HENRY
Owner(s): Farhi Standardbreds Corp. (Slot Owner: Dreamland Farms)
Giwner: Found early speed last time to just miss in a Gold event, but I'm not convinced he's fast enough for anything more than a minor award.
Reid: Still winless but has become a player in OSS Gold events. He might be able to pick up the pieces late but only for a minor award.
5-ALTAR (10-1) PER ENGBLOM JODY JAMIESON
Owner(s): Diamond Creek Racing
Giwner: Will she trot the mile? She has a big engine if she can mind her manners and wouldn't be the worst stab at big odds.
Reid: Impressively won the NJSS final but has followed it up with multiple miscues. If Jamieson can keep her trotting, she has upset potential.
6-TOKYO SEELSTER (12-1) RICHARD MOREAU SYLVAIN FILION
Owner(s): Michael Sergi, Sam Sergi, Braveheart Racing (Slot Owner: Jeffrey Snyder)
Giwner: He's not a bad horse but is he good enough to pop off a 1:52 or 1:53 mile? I'm not even sure he wins if the race goes 1:54; low exotics player only.
Reid: Has not won since he rhymed off three in a row to start off his career. He has since turned into a "piece horse" and landing on the ticket is likely his ceiling.
7-ON A STREAK (7-2) LUC BLAIS SCOTT YOUNG
Owner(s): Determination (William Wellwood Winner)
Giwner: He dug in nicely to win the Wellwood and now gets to prove himself again. His early speed makes him a clear player.
Reid: Pulled off the upset in the Wellwood to win his way in. He has a chance, especially if he can utilize his speed to find the front-end early again.
8-BRAVADO FASHION (20-1) JIM CAMPBELL LOUIS ROY
Owner(s): Fashion Farms LLC
Giwner: On paper he is just too slow, though at least his last two races have been his best. He's looking at a tall task here.
Reid: Just broke his maiden in Lexington against much easier than these. He will likely have to drop five seconds and overcome an outside draw. Tough to support.
9-INSTA GLAM (8-1) NANCY TAKTER YANNICK GINGRAS
Owner(s): Goran Falk, Christina Takter (Slot Owner: John Fielding)
Giwner: I didn't love her last race where she dead-heated for win, but I do believe when at the top of her game she has more to offer; post hurts.
Reid: Battle-tested in the PASS and has shown enough speed to be dangerous. She will have to be rolling early to overcome the outermost post.
10-VENERATE (3-1) JULIE MILLER ANDREW MCCARTHY
Owner(s): Pinske Stables and Andy Miller Stable Inc. (Slot Owner: Brad Grant)
Giwner: Went a big mile to win the KYSS final, but all his major competition broke. As the likely second choice, I'm playing against from the 2nd tier.
Reid: Just missed Walner's world record on Sunday in Lexington. He poses the biggest threat to "Donna" but will have to get away clean from trailing post.
