Woodbine Mohawk Park: Pelling pupils sweep exacta in Fan Hanover final

Treacherous Dragon converted on a perfect cover trip to capture the $401,000 Fan Hanover Stakes for 3-year-old pacing fillies on Saturday night at Woodbine Mohawk Park for driver Tim Tetrick. The daughter of Captaintreacherous held off stablemate Wickedly Innocent in the late stages of a 1:50 1/5 mile.
There was much action in the early stages as Silver Label and Yannick Gingras left hard from the middle of the pack to gain control, forcing Queen Of Success and Andrew McCarthy to take a seat. Also leaving was second choice Sea Silk and driver Chris Page. Silver Label controlled the opening quarter of 26 4/5, but Page moved with purpose and drove Sea Silk to the front well before the 55 second opening half.
Tetrick peeked out coming to the half, looking to move the favored Treacherous Dragon. Fortunately for him, he was able to flush out Prohibition Legal and driver James MacDonald, and that pair picked up the bit past the half and made a bold move, pacing up to and right by the leader Sea Silk at three-quarters in 1:22 flat. Treacherous Dragon was hot on her cover, and Wickedly Innocent was third-over in the flow entering the homestretch.
Prohibition Legal put up a game fight but couldn't hold off Treacherous Dragon, with Tetrick urging her on. Todd McCarthy flipped out off cover with Wickedly Innocent and got close to Treacherous Dragon but couldn't get by, settling for second. Prohibition Legal was a solid third, with Silver Label fourth and Boudoir Hanover making up a ton of ground in fifth.

"That was perfect," said Tetrick of the trip he worked out.
The one-two finishers are both trained by Brett Pelling, bred by White Birch Farm and owned by Hot Lead Farm LLC. As the 6-5 favorite, Treacherous Dragon returned $4.60 to win, her fifth of the season in five starts.
"She reminds me a lot of her father," Tetrick said speaking of Captaintreacherous. "He didn't win by a lot, but he knew how to win."
