Woodbine Mohawk Park: OSS Grassroots Series season concludes

Saturday night's card at Woodbine Mohawk Park included eight $60,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots Series finals for 2-year-olds and 3-year-olds.
Thestable.ca fractional ownership group won two of the championships, taking the 2-year-old colt and gelding trot with Nothingbutadreamer, by Muscle Mass and bred by Shmuel Farhi, in 1:55 2/5 and the sophomore colt and gelding trot with Resolute Bay (by Resolve and bred by Glengate Farms) in 1:54 1/5. Both horses were driven by James MacDonald for trainer Harry Poulton.
"It's a really good barn and good group of owners, fortunately for me that means a lot of nice horses to drive. Anthony and Amy [MacDonald] have done a terrific job," said James MacDonald. "Everyone who works for The Stable works hard and puts the hours in and the results are showing on the track."
Stormont Mabel (Louis Roy, 1:53 3/5) and No Angel Like Me (Sylvain Lacaille, 1:58 2/5) both converted off pocket trips in their respective finals. A 3-year-old Kadabra filly, Stormont Mabel is trained by Garry Merner for owner/breeder Stormont Meadows, while No Angel Like Me, a 2-year-old daughter of Archangel, is trained by Kelly Duval-Lacaille for owner/breeder Candice Morel.
Race favorites Grandeur Seelster (Austin Sorrie, 1:51 1/5) and Fade Out (Doug McNair, 1:50 3/5) captured the filly paces. Two-year-old Grandeur Seelster, from the first crop of All Bets Off, was bred by Seelster Farms and is owned in partnership by trainer Marcel Barrieau with Gestion Mastel Inc. and Courtney Gallant, and sophomore Fade Out, by Sportswriter, is trained by Gregg McNair, who also co-owns her with Dean Lockhart and McKinlay & Fielding. Fade Out was bred by Tara Hills Stud.
The colt and gelding paces both saw upset winners as 36-1 shot Thong Control (Sylvain Filion, 1:51 4/5) and 7-1 offering Chucky Hanover (Paul MacDonell, 1:50 3/5) prevailed. Thong Control, a 2-year-old Control The Moment colt bred by Doug Millard, campaigns for co-owner/trainer Jean Tourigny and co-owners Steve Garceau and Roland Trudel, and Chucky Hanover, a Hanover Shoe Farms-bred 3-year-old gelding by He's Watching, is trained by MacDonell for owner GLB Stable.
