Woodbine Mohawk Park: Horses to watch from Jan. 2 - Jan. 5
?q=100)
Friday, January 2
LIKE CHAOS (NW1100) one of two front-end winners on the card wired the field and was much the best in a jog. Should be able to beat better.
BEACH WIGGLED (NW1FM) trailed, rallied late and was up for 2nd. Should get top prize in next race or two.
DOUBLE DIPPIN (CLMHCP12/15000) tucked, sat in traffic early stretch, ducked in and was a game second.
SOUTHWIND INFUSION (POPUP) was third over the final turn in a poor flow, followed wide and stormed home to win going away.
COVER BAND (NW2500) tucked early, brushed to the lead, met pressure the last turn, dug in but was nailed over a track that was rough on front-end efforts. Beaten favorite can atone.
GET WINGS (VALEDICTORY) took the lead, yielded for the pocket, rallied by easily and was much the best.
Saturday, January 3
BOOKER SEELSTER (NW2) tucked, sat the three-hole, rallied inside and was second in the photo.
UNCLE SHANK A (NW9000) tucked nearing the quarter, pulled to the half, challenged to the end but was second at 14-1 to the pacesetting favorite.
A CLASS YANKEE (NW12000) sat last, rallied late and was a near miss at 67-1 in latest.
TRICKY MCWICKY (NW7300) yielded, got shuffled, brushed and won easily.
MS QUICK SAND (NW12000FM) tucked, got caught in traffic, angled out late stretch with good finish and bears watching.
Sunday, January 4
KADIDDLE (NW12000) trotter closed well from fourth over and would be no surprise.
REMEMBER THE BEACH (CLMHCP18/24000) was outkicked to the lead, sat pocket and was second best at every call to the pacesetting favorite on a night when speed ruled.
RAYS KREDIT (CLM8000) was buried to the lane, tipped, hit stride late and closed strong to earn another look in next race.
DEVILS ARCH (NW9000) was in for a tag. Pulled passing the quarter, brushed to the lead and was a comfortable winner. Got claimed and seemed to have enough left to give it a try in next for new connections.
ALWAYS BE SWEETEST (CLMHCP8/11000) was 12-1 from the rail, sat in and blew by the field when asked. Two horses were claimed but not him. Have to think he should win another.
Monday, January 5
VALIDUS (NW2) was 4th over the final turn, closed well and was second on the wire. Well-bet second choice can get it right in next.
SOUTHWIND CIRCUIT (CLM20000) was in the three hole, tipped wide around traffic, rallied strong and just missed.
RESOLVED ISSUES (NW1) rushed up the final turn and won going away and can take another with same move.
SUNDAY SHOES (CLMHCP50/60000) sat in, had some stretch traffic, angled wide, finished late and bears watching.
STOVID (NW2) wired the field in handy fashion on a night when the front end was a tough place to be.
LADY WICKED (CLM20000FM) yielded twice and was second best to the odds-on favorite and would be no surprise.
