Woodbine Mohawk Park: Horses to watch from August 10 - August 15
?q=100)
Thursday, August 10
WAYS N MEANS (OntSS) was a handy wire to wire winner in last and should be hard to catch with similar effort.
DEVILS KISS (OntSS) got away slowly but flashed some good late speed to get up for 2nd.
TOP MAST (MILLARD) was parked to the top, yielded for the pocket, sat tight in the lane and never fired his best shot.
BROOKDALE SEB (POPUP) saved to the lane, slipped out into traffic, angled wide with strong rally but just missed.
HIGNETT (POPUP) left fast to the lead, yielded to the prohibitive favorite and easily second best at every call.
Friday, August 11
MOMENTARILY (NW9500FM) sat last to the lane, rallied late putting up a :25 4/5 last panel to be second best at the wire.
STYLE FOR A MILE (PRF/FM) sat to the rear, tipped in the final turn and finished full of pace to earn a long look in next.
DRAWN IMPRESSION (NW1/2YOF) was out the final turn and closed strong to win going away and can take another.
OCCANIONALLY SHARP (NW15750FM) went to the lead, yielded and sat pocket, closed gamely but was second best in the photo.
Saturday, August 12
NEW RULES (OntSS) won impressively in QED romp around the oval in latest.
LEGENDARY HANOVER (DREAMMAKER) well-bet second choice brushed and crushed in the final and will put up some more W's here and there.
OUTLAW ACEOFSPADES (NW8100) was nowhere to the lane, rallied wide with good late pace to pass a few foes and bears watching.
RESOLVE TO WIN (OntSS) beaten favorite was behind empty cover the last quarter and finished too late. Can atone with better trip.
Monday, August 14
HES SWIFT (NW15000) went to the lead going past stablemate, set a good clip, proved second best when challenged the last quarter by pocket-sitting stablemate. Front-end speed was not holding well so don't ignore this one over a more favorable track.
MACH ART IN MOTION (CLMHCP25/35000) was nowhere to be seen but made some good ground before flattening out. Prior race was a late-closing effort. Might find a field more to his liking in next.
OKEANOS (NW8000) finished full of trot to win going away in latest and would be no surprise if he did it again.
R ROYAL PORT (W2-4) gave it a good try on the front end but was nailed by the late closing odds-on favorite.
FASHION FRENZIE (FFA) was bet to the 'nines' and went down the road to earn the win despite suffering broken equipment.
Tuesday, August 15
HP EXTRA ICE (OntSS) tucked at the quarter, raced 4th over the last half and flashed some good late speed.
HIGHLAND HOT SAUCE (NW1) was stung to the lead at nearly 50-1, yielded to the winning favorite's retake and was second best at every call.
SOUTHWIND CHARNAY (GRASSROOTS) tucked, sat three-holed to the lane, rallied gamely between horses to get up for second.
STONY BURKE (2YO) named after Jack Lord's first TV show about a rodeo bronc buster back in the early 60s, this fella broke before the start, rallied back into contention and finished second. Beaten favorite can atone in next.
MAKE OUT WITH ME (2YOF/NW1) named after something my girlfriend said to me back in the early 60s as we were watching Stony Burke, this filly closed a ton to win going away and can take another.
