Woodbine Mohawk Park: Fashion Frenzie rolls in Goodtimes final

Fashion Frenzie, an Ontario Sires Stakes standout, picked up his first Grand Circuit victory by winning the C$240,000 Goodtimes Stakes final for 3-year-old colt and gelding trotters on Saturday night at Woodbine Mohawk Park in 1:53 2/5.
Publicity Seeker (Doug McNair) was the early leader in the event and reached the opening quarter in 27 2/5, but Fashion Frenzie, driven by Louis-Philippe Roy, tipped out from fourth in the second quarter and took over command before the 56 3/5 half went on the board.
On the final bend, 4-5 favorite Dancinginthedark M (Tim Tetrick) was making a first-over advance after vacating the pylons before the half-mile marker, but as soon as Dancinginthedark M got up to Fashion Frenzie's wheel, he made a break, taking himself out of contention. That left Fashion Frenzie on a clear lead at the 1:24 3/5 three-quarters and into the lane.
Through the stretch drive it was all Fashion Frenzie, and he would go on to a four length victory over Ritson (James MacDonald), who rallied from tenth and last at the half to second. Publicity Seeker wound up third, On A Streak (Sylvain Filion) checked in fourth, and Macho Martini (Bob McClure) came in fifth.
"When I saw Dancinginthedark M coming, that was game on right there," remarked Roy. "We hit the three-quarters in 1:24 there, and Timmy's horse made a break. From out there, I was pretty confident that my horse was going to get us home.
"I really love in love with the horse, especially this year. Earlier in the season, he felt like he was a little bit crazy in post parade and going on the gate. Like I've said in every interview, he's just been smarter and smarter now. The trip he did today, I could have let him in a hole, I could have done whatever I wanted with him. It's a big asset to have on a trotter."
