Woodbine Mohawk Park: Drawn Impression sketches winning trip in Peaceful Way

Drawn Impression made it look easy once again, as the 2-year-old trotting filly overpowered nine rivals to capture the C$425,000 Peaceful Way final on Saturday night at Woodbine Mohawk Park for driver Louis-Philippe Roy.

Impeccably-bred, Drawn Impression, the first foal from champion Emoticon Hanover and by Muscle Hill, floated away from a mid-pack starting point at the outset as Drawn The Line and Tyler Jones sprinted sharply to the front and put Woman Of Passion in a hole behind her. Cool Ma Belle with Bob McClure also took a spot along the pylons, but Graceful Design and Andrew McCarthy were more determined and rolled up on the outside to gain control past the opening quarter of 27 3/5.

Draw The Line regained control before the 56 2/5 half-mile call, and that's when McClure took Cool Ma Belle up to challenge without cover. Woman Of Passion followed second-over, with Drawn Impression third-over and tracked by Willys Home Run on the outside.

Three-quarters was trotted in 1:26 as the pace stalled, and that was just fine for Roy and Drawn Impression, as that pair kicked into gear into the homestretch and left the field in the dust in short order. Drawn Impression powered off to an easy 1:54 2/5 victory, her third straight without defeat during her young career. Willys Home Run was able to rally wide and get the place spot in the last stride in a tight three-filly photo. Graceful Design just got third after being bottled up in traffic through practically the entire stretch drive. Cool Ma Belle, after a coverless journey, settled for fourth position.

"She's in her own league," said Roy in his post race interview. "I'm very lucky to sit behind her."

Owned and bred by Determination, Drawn Impression returned $3 as the odds-on favorite.

"It's an amazing feeling," said Luc Blais, who not only trains the winner but trained her dam as well.

Blais had previously captured his first Peaceful Way in 2020 with Donna Soprano.
