Woodbine Mohawk Park: Climb The Pole, Resilience post upsets in OSS Gold Series
Climb The Pole and Resilience knocked off the race favorite in two of the three Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Series clashes that took place on Tuesday night at a rainy Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Racing in a C$159,000 test for sophomore trotting fillies, Climb The Pole (Jody Jamieson) went straight to the front from post four and led at the 27 second quarter and the 57 3/5 half but was overtaken on the outside by a first-up Righteous Resolve (James MacDonald), the 1-9 favorite, heading to the 1:26 three-quarters.
Righteous Resolve, who was third in the Hambletonian Oaks final in her start before this one, couldn't clear Climb The Pole, though, and weakened in the stretch, allowing Climb The Pole, a 24-1 shot to battle back and take command again. From there, Climb The Pole held sway to the wire, defeating Baroness Hill (Louis-Philippe Roy) by a length and a quarter in a 1:54 clocking. Righteous Resolve had to settle for third.
A daughter of Kadabra bred by Windsong Stable, Climb The Pole is co-owned by trainer Carl Jamieson with partners Jody Jamieson, Steve Heimbecker and Aaron Byron. She has a summary of 5-1-1 from ten appearances, pushed her earnings to C$179,368 and returned $50.40 to win.
Resilience (Roy) showed just that in the second of two Gold Series skirmishes for 2-year-old pacing fillies, overcoming post nine and winning in 1:52. She got to the top before the 27 second opening quarter, kept control through the 56 3/5 half and the 1:24 2/5 three-quarters, and a 27 3/5 final kicker got her to the wire a neck ahead of pocket-sitter Odds On Platinum (Sylvain Filion). Its A Love Thing (MacDonald) finished third
By first-crop sire Jimmy Freight, Resilience is trained by Eric Nadeau and owned by Louis-Philippe Roy Ecurie Francis Richard Inc., Ecurie Csl and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. She has a pair of wins and a runner-up result from three outings, has pocketed C$87,317 and paid $23.70 to win as a 10-1 shot.

Pass Line (MacDonald) saved the day for the chalk in the other C$103,100 division for rookie filly pacers. She was on top at the 27 2/5 quarter but got shuffled back to third by the time the 55 4/5 half went on the board. That shuffle didn't matter, though, as she attacked first-over on the final bend, wrestled the lead away from Bettor Sisters (Jamieson) before the 1:23 3/5 three-quarters, and scooted home in 28 2/5 to prevail by a length and a half in 1:52. Collusion Hanover (Roy) closed from seventh to second and Wicked Weather (Filion) was up for third.
The victorious All Bets Off filly is trained by Dave Menary for owners/breeders Burke Racing Stable LLC. and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. She is five-for-seven lifetime, sent her bankroll to C$167,252 and returned C$3.80 to win as the 4-5 favorite.
