Woodbine Mohawk Park: Caviart Ally crunches rivals again in Milton Stakes final

Caviart Ally backed up her impressive win in her elimination race last week with another open-length romp in Saturday night's C$255,000 Milton Stakes final for aged pacing mares at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Twinkle (Scott Zeron) shot out from the pole position to lead the field of ten to the opening quarter in 26 seconds flat, but Caviart Ally (Andrew McCarthy), who settled third early, brushed her way to the point heading to the 54 3/5 half.
With a first-up Tequila Monday (Louis-Philippe Roy) spinning her wheels around the final bend, Caviart Ally remained clear to the 1:22 4/5 three-quarters, and she would go on to win by three lengths in 1:51 2/5. Bettor's Up (Doug McNair) sat inside, found room in the lane, and was up for second, with post ten hampered and traffic-troubled Pure Country (Yannick Gingras) flying through the lane for third. Twinkle was fourth and Artistic Madison (Jonathan Drury) collected fifth.
"Maybe not quite as impressive (as last week). She was so sharp last week, but obviously she still won by four or five lengths so she was definitely good enough tonight," said McCarthy. "I really had to leave hard to get away third, and then I worked pretty hard down the backside to get to the front. I chased her on the last turn a little bit to get the engines revving, and she did respond. She perked right up and went on with it."
Noel Daley trains Caviart Ally, a daughter of Bettor's Delight, for owner Caviart Farms. This was her 15th career win, and she has now earned C$1,083,764. The 2-5 favorite, she paid $2.90 to win.
"She's just a great mare, and she just tries so hard every time," said Buck Chaffee of Caviart Farms. "She's really come into her own this fall. She was really good last fall, winning the Jugette, and then this spring she got sick and it took a while to get her going and to get her back on track and everything else. Boy, she has really come on now.
"We're really aiming for the Breeders Crown, that's our big goal. She got second in last year in the Breeders Crown, and we'd really like to see her do well there this year."
