Bourbonista S, a 43-1 shot, picked up her most significant win to date in North America after she captured the Grade 2 C$215,000 Armbro Flight Stakes final for older trotting mares on Saturday night at Woodbine Mohawk Park in 1:50 4/5 for the red-hot tandem of Dexter Dunn and Marcus Melander. Starting from post nine, both Bourbonista S and Champagne Problems (Scott Zeron) charged out of there at the start, and Champagne Problems led Bourbonista S at the quarter in a quick 26 1/5. Behind them, favorite Warrawee Michelle (Ake Svanstedt) landed in the fourth spot, and she was followed by Miracle Maven and a two-wide Bravo Angel S (Jason Bartlett). Champagne Problems was able to back down the half to 55 seconds, but Svanstedt wheeled Warrawee Michelle to the outside to go on the attack before that marker went on the board. Warrawee Michelle trotted up to Champagne Problems on the final bend and then went by her past the 1:23 2/5 three-quarters. Miracle Maven and Bravo Angel S fanned out off Warrawee Michelle's cover, and that gave Dunn room to tip Bourbonista S to the outside rather than get shuffled behind the retreating Champagne Problems. Warrawee Michelle turned for home first, but she was no match for Bourbonista S in the final eighth, as the longshot rallied to the inside and pulled away to prevail by open lengths. Bravo Angel S crossed the wire second but would be placed last for interfering with Monalishi (Jody Jamieson) on the first turn. That promoted Miracle Maven to second, Warrawee Michelle to third, 2025 champion Dial Square S (James MacDonald) fourth and Stormont Beautiful (Bob McClure) to fifth. ► Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter "She felt good on the car even though we had a wide draw. She's been racing really good," Dunn said post-race. "She's only had a couple of starts, but Marcus and the team have done a great job with her. We left out and it was a pretty hot first quarter, but she travelled great the whole way. "I was happy in the pocket. If the first quarter wasn't so hot I might have looked to re-move her, but we burned a lot of gas getting across from the wide draw. I didn't like my spot coming off the turn, though. I was in a bit of trouble, but we got lucky, and she really exploded once she got into clear air. She's big and strong and she's been getting better and better. There was no reason for me not to be confident with her." A 5-year-old daughter of Face Time Bourbon bred by co-owner Panamera Racing, Bourbonista S is also co-owned by Deo Volente Farms. She has seven wins, eight seconds and five thirds from 27 appearances, has banked C$259,511 and paid $89.60 to win. "We just put her on our schedule and got her down to the sand track. She showed a lot of potential in Sweden as a 4-year-old before she was brought over here," Melander said about Bourbonista S, who began racing in the United States last year for Noel Daley and lowered her lifetime mark by 3 1/5 seconds in tonight's win. "We just put her on our program for about three months, then qualified, then started to race her. She's been building up nicely. Last time at the Meadowlands we pulled the shoes for the first time, and then today was the second time. She got a lot quicker when we did that."
