Woodbine Mohawk Park: Bettor Sisters, Pass Line prevail in OSS Gold Series

Greg Reinhart|Jul 11, 2023

Bettor Sisters and Pass Line were triumphant in a pair of Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Series contests for 2-year-old filly pacers that occurred on Tuesday night at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Driven by Jody Jamieson in the first C$100,400 flight, Bettor Sisters completed a brush from third to first before the 56 3/5 half and went on to tally by a length and a quarter in 1:53 2/5. Early leader Century Kalimba (Travis Cullen) rallied for second after a middle-half shuffle, and This Magic Moment (James MacDonald) ended up third following a first-over attempt in the third quarter.

"She's just so cool. Her ears were flopping the whole way. She didn't care, and at the head of the stretch, she just took off again," said Jamieson. "I don't know if that's the breed or the training, but either way it was pretty successful. I was real happy with her."

Dan Lagace trains and co-owns Bettor Sisters, a daughter of Bettor's Delight, with partner Big Al's Stables. She has won both of her starts so far, has earned C$58,200, and paid $6.60 to win as the 2-1 second choice. Bettor Sisters was bred by Winbak Farm and sold for $30,000 at last year's Lexington Selected Yearling Sale.

"She's been an easy horse to train down. Good attitude, just kept going forward. She did everything right, she did it all easy," Lagace added. "To beat these horses you've got to be good."

In the other C$101,300 split, Odds On Platinum (Tyler Moore) cut fractions of 27, 55 2/5 and 1:24 3/5, but Pass Line (Louis-Philippe Roy) came out of the pocket before three-quarters and took command at the top of the lane. After Pass Line struck the front, she opened up a gap on the rest in the upper part of the stretch and then held safe over a closing Watching You (Scott Zeron) by three-quarters of a length in a 1:51 4/5 mile, with Coco Jo Jo (MacDonald) back in third.

"Both times I've sat behind her [before tonight's race], she was just really impressive," remarked Roy. "Even last week she showed me a little bit. She could do whatever I wanted her to do. She's very nice to drive, so I was pretty confident going in there."

A filly by All Bets Off, Pass Line is trained by Dave Menary for owners/breeders Burke Racing Stable LLC. and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. She is three-for-three lifetime, pushed her bankroll to C$66,650 and returned C$4.50 to win as the favorite.

"I liked her as soon as she came in the door. She came pre-made," Menary stated. "I've never had the opportunity to train her real, real fast yet. She's a nice filly and she does everything really easy. I've been easy on her since she came, and she's making us look good."
