Woodbine Mohawk Park: Beau Jangles ends drought in OSS Gold Series

New Image Media Beau Jangles posted his first win since May 23 by taking Sunday's OSS Gold Series race at Woodbine Mohawk Park

Beau Jangles surpassed C$2 million lifetime and equalled his 1:48 3/5 career-best mile with a victory in the lone C$150,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Leg 4 test for 3-year-old pacing colts and geldings on Sunday (Aug. 30) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

It was the first win for the reigning Canadian and U.S. Horse of the Year going back to his Gold Series victory on May 23 at Mohawk.

"It's just great seeing him race like that again," Beau Jangles' trainer, Dr. Ian Moore told Woodbine broadcaster John Rallis. "He's too nice and too good a horse to be the way he's been recently. It depresses me as well as it depresses the horse. I'm sure this is going to be a big confidence boost for him now, and since he missed a lot of time, he's got lots more races into November."

James MacDonald, driving Beau Jangles for the first time, orchestrated the victory in the field of five, coming home in 25 1/5 on a rainy night to win by three-quarters of a length over Redland Rocket Man (Jody Jamieson).

Redland Rocket Man led most of the way through fractions of 25 3/5, 54 2/5 and 1:23 1/5 with Beau Jangles in the pocket. Into the final turn, Louis-Philippe Roy moved Borderline Mobby out of third-place and quickly challenged the leaders. In the stretch, Redland Rocket Man was game, but Beau Jangles, the 3-5 favorite, powered past to win. Borderline Mobby was third, followed by Odds On Bullfrog (Travis Henry). No Waitlist (Doug McNair) was pulled up and finished distance in fifth.

MacDonald said Beau Jangles, "felt like a bear" in the stretch.

"I'd seen that move a lot last year down the lane way, where [Beau Jangles] just powered away," MacDonald said. "When Mobby came on the outside of him, he swelled up, and I had a handful, but he was sharp, too. Sometimes they just get angry and mad being stuck in there. You could tell he wanted to go, and I just had to kind of back him out around them. And when he saw daylight, he knew what to do."

Beau Jangles paid $3.30 to win. There was no show wagering.

The 1:48 3/5 mile equalled the mark Beau Jangles set at 2 while winning the Breeders Crown last October at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

"I just feel happy, not only for the owners and the partners, but also for the horse himself, because he's been a big part of all of our lives in the stable for the last couple of years now, and we hated to see what's happened with him recently," Moore said. "It's a confidence booster for him and a big elation, a lot of happiness, for us."

Beau Jangles, who was a perfect 12-for-12 as a 2-year-old, improved to 16-0-2 in 22 lifetime starts. The C$75,000 payday pushed his career earnings to C$2,035,857. The son of Cattlewash out of Mrs Major Hill is now 4-0-2 in 10 starts in 2026. He has earned C$347,107 this year.

Bred by Tara Hills Stud of Port Perry, ON, Beau Jangles was purchased for $65,000 out of the Preferred Equine consignment at the 2024 Standardbred Horse Sales Company yearling sale in Harrisburg, PA, by the Graham Grace Stables of Clifton, VA, Kiwi Stables of La Plata, MD and Bolton Stables of Clermont, FL.

Moore said the group hasn't decided, yet, where Beau Jangles' next start will be, but the Little Brown Jug is still a possibility.
