New Image Media Waves Of Fortune kicked off a perfect night for Tony Beaton in the OSS Gold Series

Trainer Tony Beaton swept both C$100,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Leg 3 events for 2-year-old pacing fillies on Monday (Aug. 17) at Woodbine Mohawk Park and, in the process, reached both 500 career wins and surpassed C$15 million in earnings.

Beaton pupils Waves Of Fortune and Twin B Copacabana provided the trainer with the golden evening.

In the first division (race two), Waves Of Fortune won her first Gold test of the year after being the runner-up to Money Carlo in the first two Golds. James MacDonald steered the daughter of Bettor's Delight out of the Somebeachsomewhere mare Cozy Beach to a 1:51 career-best triumph. The margin of victory was 1 3/4 lengths over Lyons Flurry (Mark MacDonald).

Sent off as the 1-9 favorite in the field of six, Waves Of Fortune was eased into third by MacDonald as Lyons Flurry and Cattle Belle (Trevor Henry) battled for the lead, with the former leading the field to the 26 second opening quarter. Coming off the first turn, James MacDonald had Waves Of Fortune in gear, and she quickly brushed to the front and took the group through the 55 1/5 half and 1:23 2/5 three-quarter station before opening up a bit in deep stretch.

Charolais Cattle (Louis-Philippe Roy) closed well to be third, followed by Qued Up (Tyler Borth) and Cattle Belle.

Waves Of Fortune paid $2.20.

Waves Of Fortune is now 2-2-0 in four career starts and has earnings of C$109,500 for trainer and part-owner Tony Beaton, his wife Lisa Lefort, David Merce and Teresa Davidson. Bred by Southwind Farms of New Jersey, Waves Of Fortune was sold for $17,000 at the 2025 Standardbred Horse Sales Company yearling sale in Harrisburg, PA.

"We were always hopeful she would be a top-level filly," Beaton told Woodbine broadcaster John Rallis. "Training down, she never did anything wrong and she always wanted to go forward."

In the second division (race nine), previous two-time Gold champs Twin B Mayreau and Money Carlo met for the first time in a division that also featured Battle of the Belles champ Jersey Bulldog. But it was 31-1 longshot Twin B Copacabana that shot up the inside in the stretch and on to her first Gold victory.

Mark MacDonald guided the daughter of Cattlewash–Lovely Erin to the one-length triumph in a career-best 1:50 2/5.

Despite it being a field of six, the race was surprisingly competitive.

Twin B Mayreau (Tyler Jones), Twin B Copacabana and Money Carlo (James MacDonald) battled into the first turn, with the three fillies in that order at the 26 1/5 first quarter station. James MacDonald had Money Carlo out and rolling coming out of the turn, and he led the group to the 55 3/5 half and the 1:23 2/5 three-quarter pole with Twin B Mayreau, Twin B Copacabana and Jersey Bulldog (Bob McClure), the 6-5 favorite, all in close pursuit. Turning for home, Money Carlo held a slim lead as Mark MacDonald ducked Twin B Copacabana up the inside and both Jersey Bulldog and Twin B Mayreau attacked from Money Carlo's right flank.

Twin B Copacabana came home in 26 2/5 to seal the victory, but it was extremely tight for place and show. In the end, Money Carlo edged out Jersey Bulldog for second, followed by Twin B Mayreau in fourth. Twentydollardolly (Jean Renaud) grabbed the final check.

Despite his filly’s long odds, Mark MacDonald said he wanted Twin B Copacabana to be forwardly-placed off the gate.

"These Ontario-breds are so tough," Mark said. "But, my filly's not bad. I know she was 31-1, but I was going to make them do a little work if they wanted to get around me."

Mark MacDonald said shooting up the inside was, "just a calculated risk. I took a shot. I didn't want to be out uncovered in that turn since the half was only 55 seconds. I knew we were going to come a big back-half...I wanted to stay on the rail and just hope something worked out late. And you know sometimes if you can get up the inside, a horse can beat anybody, and that's what worked out there."

Twin B Copacabana paid $64.90 to win.

It was the second win in five lifetime starts for the pacer, who now sports earnings of C$83,000 for the Copacabana Stable of Waterdown, ON. Twin B Copacabana was bred by Twinbook Limited of Embro, ON. She was purchased for C$90,000 at the 2025 London Classic Yearling Sale.

As for Beaton, Mark said the trainer has, "done such a great job. Look at all the fillies he's got. It's crazy. He's such a good trainer. I used to work with Tony when he was with Casie Coleman, and he developed Western Silk, Chancey Lady, all those horses and it's so cool to see him on his own and doing so well...it means a lot that he gave me an opportunity to drive some of these nice horses and I really appreciate it."

In previous Gold Series action in the division, Twin B Mayreau and Money Carlo won their respective Leg 1 Gold divisions on July 3 at Woodbine Mohawk Park. The same two horses also won their Leg 2 Gold divisions on July 19 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
