Top Pick Stats: 249/725 (-$241.70) Best Bets: 31/66 ($6.10); Spot Plays: 14/66 (-$33.80) Best Bet: MONALISHI (Race 6) Spot Play: LMC WAGON WHEEL (Race 4) Early Pick-5: 2/6,7/5,7,8/3/7,8   $2.40 Late Pick-5: 7/2,3/1/1,2/6,8   $1.60 Race 1: NW $15,750 LAST 4 STARTS. AE: MARES. (2) NEW RULES returned with a sharp win in the morning and looks to pick up where he left off in the top classes on the grounds. I can see him returning with a win. (4) R PEAKY BLINDERS took no prisoners on the front end off the drop in class and drew away to an open length score. That’s the trip he prefers; He could be fired out again tonight. (5) EMOJI HANOVER didn’t have the same pop last week, and could be left to work first over if horses leave outside of her. [DRF HARNESS: Get Harness Eye PPs for this card] Race 2: 2 YEAR OLD FILLIES: PROSPECT STARTERS. AE: NW $3,750 IN 2025. (7) BELLA CHICA has found some exceptional form in her last two starts, drawing away on the front to open length victories. She makes her first trip around the Mohawk Park oval, and looms as a main contender. (6) IAM THAT SPECIAL also comes off two solid wins in a row, and picks up the leading driver on the circuit, which is likely to get her plenty of attention at the windows. She had to face Blue Jean Gal in her first trip to Mohawk, who just won a Grassroots Final on Saturday. (3) SILVER PRIDE has been racing decently around the smaller Canadian ovals, and most recently comes off a second place finish behind Bella Chica. Louis Roy gets the call tonight and can guide her to a finish in the money. Race 3: 2 YEAR OLD FILLIES: NW 1 RACE OR $8,000 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES. (7) WHOA BLACK BETTY might be too obvious of a pick, but you have to respect the barn and what they bring out. A debuting two year old has a high floor until proven otherwise. She was under a big hold and paced home strongly in the morning. (8) DOCS GIRL FRIDAY has the experience edge over a few in here, and looks like a filly that can continue to improve if she is put in play tonight. (5) EMCEE was favored at Kawartha after her strong late kick allowed her to pull off an upset on debut. She can get a piece if she minds her manners. Race 4: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GOLD LEG 5. 3 YEAR OLD TROTTING COLTS & GELDINGS. STARTING FEE $900 CDN ($700 USD). (3) LMC WAGON WHEEL doesn’t scare me off with his third place finish last time. I would look at that as a tightener on the front end. The big money is on the line tonight; I’ll look for him to come through with a big effort. (7) P L SPENCER has been victorious in two straight overnight tries against LMC Wagon Wheel. His versatility makes him a threat no matter where he gets away, but I would expect him to be on the lead. (1) GALEN ERSO took a pit stop at Dayton to qualify after making two consecutive breaks in Kentucky. He added Lasix for the qualifier and stays on it tonight. This is a much better spot for him. Race 5: NW $6,000 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $12,000 LAST 8 STARTS (W/O $24,000 LAST 8 STARTS N/E) AE: N/A $2,690 P/S L4 STARTS OR IN 2025. (7) PHOENIX has always been a horse I have kept my eye on over the last few seasons, but this campaign has been his most frustrating. He clearly has the ability and speed to string wins together, but because of trips or other circumstances, he doesn’t get the job done as often. I’ll count on tonight being his night. (8) ROYALTY BEER has made nearly six figures again this year by winning half of his starts. I think the morning line price is a pipe dream considering the driver switch. An aggressive steer looms. (9) TRUFFLES TOO is in a spot to wake up even though he just won three starts ago. This is a tough spot from the widest draw; I’ll play against. Race 6: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GOLD LEG 5. 3 YEAR OLD TROTTING FILLIES. STARTING FEE $900 CDN ($700 USD). (7) MONALISHI makes all the sense in the world after a strong tune up try against the boys. She didn’t appear to lose anything in her time off, and should be a major threat to take down tonight’s Gold. (6) STORMONT BEAUTIFUL has been excellent in her last two tries, pulling off a major upset in the prep race two starts ago, and being in the mix late despite a second tier starting spot in the Elegant Image Final. She gets her nose back on the gate and should be heard from late in the mile. (5) EXQUISITE TASTE was a major factor in her two Gold tries back in the height of summer. She appears to be taking her time getting back to things, but adds Lasix tonight and could add some value to exotics if she puts up a big effort. Race 7: NW $1,000 LAST 4 STARTS (W/O $7,500 LAST 8 STARTS N/E). AE: N/A $785 P/S IN 2025 (MIN 5 STARTS). AE: OPT. CLM. $12,500. (2) VILLEFRANCHE AS gets J-Mac back in the bike after a trip around the track against tougher competition. I’ll count on him working out a winning trip with the veteran. (3) GIVE ME KARETS K has been as consistent as they come at this level, finishing in the money in five of his last six efforts. (8) DONATOVER is the class of this field and knows this oval better than anyone in the field. The veteran comes off some okay tries at Rideau, and will race off the claim for a top barn. He can finish in the money. Race 8: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GOLD LEG 5: 2 YEAR OLD PACING COLTS & GELDINGS. STARTING FEE $900 CDN ($700 USD). (1) BEAU JANGLES settled the score with former undefeated colt Frantic Hanover, and moved to 8-for-8 after a win in the million dollar Metro Pace. He has taken care of business against these horses more than a few times now. I think he remains unbeaten tonight. (4) REDLAND ROCKET MAN is a horse that I haven’t given up on. I’ve seen his talent and ability, but the trips he gets are not the best. I could see him sitting in the pocket behind Beau Jangles and add some value. (7) TILTHECOWSCOMEHOME sat an inside trip in the Metro, and only finished two lengths behind Beau Jangles. He is the obvious exacta partner to the favorite. [DRF HARNESS: Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter] Race 9: OPEN. (2) GAINES HANOVER was a near-miss third two starts ago, and was moving very well in the late stages to get a check in the Free For All. He appears to be getting back to top form which saw him be a contender in the Preferred nearly every week in the early parts of summer. (1) PENNTELLER HANOVER is taking a step forward in each start since returning. I think he will be an inflated price and could be forgotten about in exotics. (5) AMIGO VOLO gets J-Mac back in the bike and could be set for an aggressive steer. The tote board has told us a lot about him in the last few weeks. Race 10: NW $1,000 LAST 4 STARTS (W/O $7,500 LAST 8 STARTS N/E). AE: N/A $700 P/S IN 2025 (MIN 10 STARTS). AE: OPT. CLM. $12,500. (8) MOMAS SON BYRNE was overmatched against American History who drew away to win that race. He adds Lasix for a drop to the bottom level and faces a group that is much more suspect than him. A speed try could be in the cards. (6) PREMIER FIRST STAR can stick around for a big piece if he doesn’t tire himself out on the lead. He has put up decent speed in the last month. (3) SMOKIN HOT DUDE has some versatility at this bottom level and gets a big post switch. He can close for a piece tonight.
