Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Tuesday 8/5

Mohawk Logo 1.5

Top Pick Stats: 115/344 (-$86.80)

Best Bets: 12/30 (-$13.60); Spot Plays: 8/31 (-$20.30)

Best Bet: WINDOR (Race 5)

Spot Play: TWIN B ALLIANCE (Race 10)

Early Pick 5: 2,6/7/5,7,8/8/9 $1.20

Late Pick 5: 1,6/5,7/8/2,4,6/3 $2.40

Race 1: 2 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS: NW 1 RACE OR $8,000 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES.

(2) CATTLE DRIVE produced an excellent rally when angled to the outside in the stretch. He was just too far back to make a bigger impact. He should outfoot a couple more rivals with this post and be in position to strike off a helmet. (6) CHOW FOR NOW made a solid, sustained move and took advantage of others faltering. Another step forward puts him right there. (1) DOMINEIGHT was able to track from the pocket the entire way and just missed. He will need to find more in the late stages if the top two are pacing like they should. (3) NEVERLEAVEHARLAN has been outsprinted in all three career starts. He is an underneath use for me.

Race 2: 2 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS: GRASSROOTS STARTERS.

(7) REDLAND ROCKET MAN was clearly a horse to keep an eye on after his debut win where he was completely wrapped up. Things didn’t work out when racing from last in his latest, as you would expect, but he paced home extremely strong. He is the horse to beat. (5) JASPER HILL was a wrapped up winner when trying the front end. He has raced well with two different styles. (1) DR DAVE had something go awry when making his second move. He showed so much on debut; He needs to be used. (4) TWIN B JOHN B was left chasing from the rear and couldn’t make up any ground. He can rebound and hit the ticket.

Race 3: 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 1 (WINNERS FOR A PURSE OF $9,000 OR LESS 2 RACES) RACE OR $8,500 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES. AE: 3 YEAR OLDS N/A $755 P/S IN 2025.

(8) EIGHT WAY ROLLER gets the leading driver back on who could get more out of him in the late stages. I expect him to be forwardly placed. (5) TYMAL EMERALD took a shuffle back to last in her latest and showed solid late trot again up the inside and between horses. She will be passing horses late. (7) TRIX UP MY SLEEVE was taking steps forward at this level before a subpar Grassroots try and an even fourth at Hanover. He can add value to the exotics. (2) GRACES SECRET had a tough trip in her latest against soft fractions. I think she will need plenty to go her way.

Race 4: POP UP SERIES: HORSES & GELDINGS CLAIMING $8,000 FOR NW $5,000 LAST 5 STARTS. ALLOWANCES FOR AGE. LEG 1. (MUST START IN 2 LEGS TO BE ELIGIBLE TO FINAL).

(8) NATIONAL DEBT comes off a solid qualifier at Hippodrome 3R and gets Doug McNair in the bike who should give him an aggressive steer. I think he can work out a good trip and get the job done in his first start back. (4) WALL STREET BELL makes his return to the big track for the new barn and picks up the leading driver. We could see a big effort out of him; I expect him to be on the move early. (3) HES SWIFT could easily roll here if he gets given the lead and soft fractions, something we’re accustomed to, but he seems to have lost a step. I’ll play against him. (5) PASSIONATE PRINCE should add value underneath if he finds a way to get into the race.

Race 5: 2 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS: NW 1 RACE OR $8,000 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES.

(9) WINDOR held his own against the likes of Beau Jangles in two tries at the Gold level. I expect McNair to be on the move in the early stages and produce a winning effort. (5) BETTER SCRIPT was so visually impressive on debut, but because of the sick scratch, it will be nearly a month since he has raced. (10) ALLTHERIGHTPLACES was put in play by Louis Roy with a two-move effort and finished a solid second. He will need to use some gate speed if he wants to be involved. (4) COURTS CHOICE has shown decent late speed when racing here and could use an inside trip to snag a piece.

Race 6: NW $6,000 LAST 5 STARTS. AE: OPT. CLM. $30,000. AE: NW $16,000 OR N/A $1,770 P/S IN 2025.

(1) HASTY BID makes a ton of sense off the class drop. She is too classy for these in my opinion. (6) WILLOWTIME was rough-gaited at the start but was held together by Roy and pulled to the outside in the stretch. He didn’t bring his best, but you could see that from the start. He should rebound when getting away from the rail. (4) P L RAINBOW DASH was chasing a wicked pace and couldn’t get a check. Things should be a bit more reasonable this week and allow her to pass rivals late. (3) KEVIN ANTHONY was facing much tougher competition last time. I could see him getting an inside trip and rallying for a piece.

Race 7: NW $9,000 LAST 5 STARTS. AE: OPT. CLM. $50,000. AE: NW $70,000 IN 2025.

(7) R PEAKY BLINDERS was excellent when he finally used gate speed and trotted away to a new career best. It’s very difficult to overlook that effort. (5) RICKY RESOLVE had to wait for clearance in the stretch, and Pemberton was already moving at his best. He still got up for second and produced another strong mile. He continues to race well. (6) ROBERTSON DE was left chasing in his latest but draws a post where he should be part of the early mix. (4) EDEN ONTHEHILL doesn’t need the front, and may try a grinding trip this week after fading back to third. This is a competitive bunch.

Race 8: PURE IVORY FINAL: 2 YEAR OLD TROTTING FILLIES.

(8) ONE BELLE was excellent in her latest, cruising to a win and making herself known as the horse to beat. She has done nothing wrong. (4) WISHUPONASTAR DEO capitalized on a perfect pocket trip and scored as an overlay. I can see her getting another cozy trip. (7) CALYX is a filly I struggle to place because I don’t think she’ll have the best of trips. They’re going for big money, though, so maybe McClure will use a little gate speed. (3) SHIMMERING HANOVER gets some big post relief tonight, but really should’ve finished out last week’s mile. I’ll use her underneath.

Race 9: POP UP SERIES: HORSES & GELDINGS CLAIMING $8,000 FOR NW $5,000 LAST 5 STARTS. ALLOWANCES FOR AGE. LEG 1. (MUST START IN 2 LEGS TO BE ELIGIBLE TO FINAL).

(2) BETTORHOLDONTIGHT was rallying up the inside in his latest when things finally opened up for him, but made a bit of a nasty break. It only lasted about three strides, and he’s right back in this week, so it didn’t appear to be anything serious. I think he can work out a trip in this spot and pull the upset. (6) DRAGONS BETTER makes his Mohawk debut for solid connections. You’d have to think they can get more out of this horse right away, but he really hasn’t been producing much when stateside. (4) TRIDENT SEELSTER has had an excellent season and picks up J-Mac for his return to the big track. I think he will be put in play in the early stages. (5) PICK A GENRE has been fighting for checks up until his last few efforts. He can rebound and pick up a piece.

Race 10: 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 1 RACE (WINNERS FOR A PURSE OF $9,000 OR LESS 2 RACES) OR $8,500 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES.

(3) TWIN B ALLIANCE had to wait for others to pull in front of him, and although he was just even in the stretch, it was his first start of 2025 and just his third career start. He adds Lasix this week and can take a winning step forward. (2) ROOKIE J had a perfect trip in his latest but could only manage third. If he is forward again, he can be right there. (6) CORPORATE BUSINESS has taken plenty of air in his last two efforts and appears to be rounding into form that makes him a possibility to hit the board, especially if Borth puts him in play. (5) TROOPER HANOVER was another who got a perfect trip in his latest, but was outsprinted when it mattered. I think too much money finds him with J-Mac in the bike, and I’ll play against. (7) MY LITTLE FRIEND hasn’t missed a check in a while and gets Jody Jamieson tonight. He can hang on to round out the Hi-5.
