ALLOWANCES FOR AGE. (6) BET NINTEEN was overmatched two starts ago, then was involved with a ridiculously fast opening quarter that basically did him in. Louis Roy gets back in the bike and could easily team up for the rebound effort. (5) THATLL BE TIGER has just one win this season, but has clearly improved since adding Lasix. He could be ready for a big effort on the big track. (7) FLYING ART A comes out of a weird race where he was only competing against three other rivals, and they were in what looked like a monsoon. He is likely to be driven aggressively again; Could Borth get more out of him late? (1) THATSWHATISAID N has been coming up short in recent weeks, but the veteran continues to battle and pick up shares. He can do the same tonight. [DRF HARNESS: Get Harness Eye PPs for this card] Race 2: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GRASSROOTS LEG 4. 3 YEAR OLD PACING COLTS & GELDINGS. STARTING FEE $400 CDN ($315 USD). (7) OUT OF ICE has rallied off two straight sharp wins and looms as the horse to beat. This is a group he should beat once again. (2) SILVERWALLS made a very strong first over blitz and put a head in front, but couldn’t clear and faded back to fifth. He has been very good this year and is a major win candidate if he puts it all together. (4) TIME PASSER is getting closer to contending at this level and gets J-Mac back in the bike. He could work out a good trip with this son of Bettor’s Delight. (1) GRIN AND WIN continues to remain extremely consistent at this level, with seven second place finishes this year. He is always in contention for at least a piece. Race 3: 3 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS: GRASSROOTS OR PROSPECT STARTERS. (8) NICKEL AND DIME was aggressively handled in his latest and went on to cruise to victory after getting a second quarter breather. He is in top form right now and deserves respect. (6) MR PASADENA got a perfect trip from J-Mac two starts ago, and he returns to the bike tonight. He was a fine fifth last time after facing pressure in the early stages. (5) LOOKATMEGOAMIGO was able to get to the outside and made a three-wide move, but was flatter than expected in the late stages. He will need more this week. (4) FIRST CLASS RULE has decent staying power after using gate speed, which is likely what he will do again this week. He can hang on for a share. Race 4: 2 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS: PROSPECT STARTERS. (3) DOMINEIGHT faced a tough NW1 group in his latest and was only able to make up about a length despite pacing a strong back half. He just missed against these horses back on July 29; I think he gets the job done tonight. (7) STARBRIGHT DANCER comes into tonight with an undefeated record and a win under his belt at Mohawk. He is extremely logical in this spot. (2) TRAMONTO was interfered with in his latest and finished off the board. His race two starts ago was very strong. (5) ALLSTAR CORDS raced well from post eight in his latest and only finished behind Starbright Dancer. He will look to turn the tables on that rival with a better post. Race 5: 3 YEAR OLD FILLIES: PROSPECT STARTERS NW $11,500 LAST 5 STARTS. (1) EARTHA K has repeat potential if McClure can work out a good trip. She has strung together three quality efforts since the qualifier and makes a lot of sense in here. (10) ITS NOT MY VAULT comes off a wrapped up win at Georgian Downs, who also had a sloppy track on August 19. She may have found a perfect spot to be competitive at. (6) ROYAL SAUCE has only missed the board once in her last six starts. She should show gate speed again and look to hold off rivals. (2) D A DREAM GIRL barely got the job done in her latest after opening up on the field. She has early speed as well and can get a share. Race 6: POP UP SERIES FINAL: H&G CLAIMING $8,000 FOR NW $5,000 L5 STARTS. ALLOWANCES FOR AGE. (6) PICK A GENRE has looked much better since entering this Pop-Up Series. He was a wrapped up winner in leg one before rallying extremely well from a second tier starting spot to get a share in his latest. He gets his nose back on the gate tonight and should be firing out early. (3) HES SWIFT just missed in leg two of this series when Trident Seelster snuck up the inside and picked him off. He didn’t race last week, but should prove to be very tough in this final. (1) OPULENT DRAGON was overbet last week when you consider his 1-for-26 record, and once again snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. He returns to the Tierney barn and should put forth another good effort. (2) TRIDENT SEELSTER was a solid third last week when chasing the top two, and now picks up leading driver James Macdonald tonight. The veteran is having another very consistent season. Race 7: 2 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS: NW 1 RACE OR $9,650 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES. (6) LEGENDS RULE got a pocket trip in his latest morning prep and accelerated well in the stretch to hold off a horse who was closing on his outside. I’ll take a shot with him on debut. (9) CRAZY TRAIN makes sense off the drop from stakes competition. Last time he raced at this level, he was given an aggressive steer from Jody Jamieson and got the job done. (5) YOUR ROUND sat much closer to the lead in his second career start and ended up dead heating for the win. If he uses some gate speed, he should be able to sit a good trip and get a good piece. (3) ARTILLERY SEELSTER passed many horses in the late stages after getting away at the back. He could be more aggressively handled and be in contention for a piece. Race 8: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GRASSROOTS LEG 4. 3 YEAR OLD PACING COLTS & GELDINGS. STARTING FEE $400 CDN ($315 USD). (3) TIP OF TIME should be more aggressively handled tonight after taking a shuffle and having to encounter some traffic. He has the ability to sit a perfect trip behind the favorite and pull the upset. (5) BETTERDEALMEIN left out to get a pocket trip, but took a shuffle once Backup Plan came calling and cleared. He had to wait for room to open up along the rail and was moving well when it did. (7) SOS SPORTS BET will take the bulk of the support off the strength of his win last week, but I’ll try to play against and pull an upset. J-Mac should be equally as aggressive. (1) SHADOW OF AN ANGEL pulled off a 9-1 upset in his latest and has the versatility to get into tonight’s race in a variety of ways. He has gotten a share in his two most recent starts at the Grassroots level. [DRF HARNESS: Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter] Race 9: 3 YEAR OLD FILLIES: PROSPECT STARTERS. (5) SUPERIOR DELIGHT slowed things way down in the middle half after a first quarter sprint. That allowed other rivals to get into the race much easier. To her credit, she battled back and nearly got the job done anyway. I’ll give her another shot. (7) GUCCI SEELSTER made that menacing first over challenge at Superior Delight and looked like she was going to clear before she battled back on the inside. To her credit as well, she didn’t get discouraged, and still got her nose in front to pull off the upset. I would expect another aggressive steer and good trip. (3) P L SUZIE closed extremely well down the center of the track to finish best of the rest behind the top two. She has potential to circle most rivals, especially if things falter up front. (8) THE LIES WE TELL has the gate speed to get into the race from this outside draw, but doesn’t have the best responses when challenged. She can hold on for a piece. Race 10: 3 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS: PROSPECT STARTERS. AE: 3 YO N/A $620 P/S IN 2025. (1) NATIONAL TIER was a wrapped up winner after being given an aggressive steer in his latest. He is likely to take the bulk of support and deserves it in my opinion. (6) INTUIT BIG was a solid second behind National Tier last week after a first over move. The slower middle half made it so that he couldn’t hang with the winner, but he held off everyone else. He should get a good trip and can get a big piece. (5) COLD CREEK PANTERA took a big shuffle and then had to wait for room. He angled harshly to the inside and tried to salvage what he could. I think he is improving and could add some value to exotics. (9) SHINING MOMENT races best when off the pace, in my opinion, but it’s usually when he is way back and can sprint home to pass tired horses. He gets J-Mac back in the bike tonight and could pass some tired rivals late to hit the board. (3) WICKED EXPRESS has been better in his last two starts, but might be overbet off the strength of his second place finish last week. I’ll use him to round out tonight’s Hi-5.
