Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Tuesday 7/20

Garnet Barnsdale|Jul 19, 2021
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Meet Stats: 88 – 269 / $481.60 (-$57.40)

Best Bets: 12 – 27 / $55.10 (+$1.10)

Spot Plays: 11 – 26 / $84.60 (+$32.60)

Best Bet: MOTOVATION (1ST)

Spot Play: VELVET STINGER (9TH)

Early Pick 5: 1,10/4,5/1,3,8/4,9/1,2,6,7 = $19.20

Late Pick 5: 2,5,6/6,7/6,7/2,3,6/1,3 = $14.40

Early Pick 4: 4,9/1,2,6,7/2,5,6/6,7 = $48

Late Pick 4: 6,7/2,3,6/1,3/1,4,6 = $36

Race 1: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS 2YO Fillies **$100,000 GTD Pick 5**

(1) MOTOVATION came ready to play last Thursday and she easily broke her maiden now she wheels right back into a winnable Grassroots spot and picks up teamster Jamieson; top call. (10) CLASSIC VENUS is the first foal out of a $1.2 million winning mare who took a mark of 1:49 4/5. She is worth a look at what should be a nice price on debut. (7) IWISHIHADAME raced decently here on the 13th and she can take a share. (2) BIKINI GENIE can improve here getting a much better post to work with; consider for the exotics.

Race 2: 2YO NW1 LT

(5) FELT TIP MARKER took 4th in an OSS Gold race in her debut despite being out the route. She could make short work of her fellow maidens here if she gets sent to the front early. (4) BLUE BAYOU DEO is progressing nicely and improving her late speed each start. She's the other one that I'll use in the Pick 5. (7) MULTIPLY was huge in his July 13th qualifier but he would likely need to drop four seconds to win here; using underneath. (10) IMPORTER EXPORTER likely has some talent but in a debut mile from post 10 he is probably best used underneath.

Race 3: CLAIMING HANDICAP $22,000 to $30,000

(1) SEA LAIRD faces tougher here but he goes for a barn that has two wins in three starts with fresh claims this year and he picks up Henry to drive; top call. (3) MACHIN A TRICK jumped it off while leading last week. He gets a more experienced WEG driver tonight and he could be much better in this second start off the Auciello claim. (8) MACH IMPACT is always a front end threat and she should be right there again racing off the Fellows claim. (4) JULERICA was a bit lucky last week inheriting the pocket when Machin A Trick broke. He'll get bet again and I'm playing to beat him.

Race 4: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS 2YO Fillies - Pick 4

(9) JUST CALL ME SONG was taken way wide at the head of the lane in her debut when two rivals hooked wheels right in front of her and she still finished willingly. She is sent out by Moreau here and she gets the nod. (4) DELIGHT BAYAMA parlayed a good trip into a debut win but she had plenty of late pace and she should be the main rival to the choice. (5) SHEZIS A BEAUTY made a big move that she couldn't sustain here last Thursday which could be a hint of better things to come. Giver her a look at the exotics. (3) NIGHT LEGS can take a smaller share passing some of these late.

Race 5: F&M 4YO and Younger NW1 or $7,000 LT

(1) ROCKET GIRL has improved every start without threatening the winner. From an inside post maybe she gets put into play tonight; call to upset. (2) BROKEN has drawn poorly in all three of her starts. She is another who could add some value to the exotics tonight in this wide-open race. (6) DIVINE DEO gets out of the second tier for this and she should be forwardly-placed early; using. (7) WILDCAT VICTORIA is one of the main contenders but she could get overbet again this week; your call.

Race 6: CLAIMING HANDICAP $13,000 to $18,000

This is another tough race with several live options. (2) PORTRSTOWNCHRIS IR paced a 27 1/5 third 1/4 last week which was a move that he couldn't sustain into the final 1/4. From an inside post Roy should be able to find a helmet to follow tonight and he gets the nod. Consistent veteran (5) JAYDENS PLACE goes for a barn that is 1 for 3 racing off the claim this year and he should be in the mix vs. these; using. (6) GOLDINTHEBADLANDS is another fresh claim that can win this race. It makes sense to price shop here. (8) MAINTENANCE MAN comes off a solid effort and he is another that is hard to toss even from out there.

Race 7: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS 2YO Fillies

(6) BIG BETTOR HANOVER, a $37,000 Harrisburg sale buy, look ready to roll for sharp connections and she gets top billing on debut. (7) SAKE TUMI, a $30,000 Harrisburg buy, is a 1/2-sister to a colt who almost won a Grand Circuit race at this track last year. She is another who looks ready for a good effort. (5) LAURALANTHALASA has shown some grit in the lane in both wins and if she is leading at the 1/8th pole she may be hard to pass again. (8) GALLERIA SEELSTER can improve on her debut; consider for the exotics.

Race 8: Claiming Handicap $8,500 to $12,000 - Pick 4

(6) COOL ROCK keeps winning and keeps getting claimed. A threepeat looms here. (7) ALWAYS N THE MONEY should get more aggressive facing easier tonight and he could be the one to catch. (2) SOS JUSTIFIED is sharp and he can land in the Tri racing near the front throughout. (4) EMPTYTHETILL couldn't seal the deal last week after stealing a 29 4/5 second 1/4. He looks like a fringe player here.

Race 9: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES 2YO Fillies

(6) VELVET STINGER closed well while the pace accelerated in her debut and she gets a key driver change now and top billing here. (2) JUST LIKE WILMA closed like a wild horse in her lone qualifier and she should take a lot of action here; using. (3) FLO is another filly that was good in her debut that gets a big driver change here. She's not out of this. (8) DAY TO PARTY, a $30,000 Lexington buy, looks sharp for this debut but from the wide post I'll use her on the bottom.

Race 10: 4YO and Younger NW2 or $15,000

(3) SETTN A PRECEDENT already has a 1:53 2/5 win at this meet with McClure driving. If she is recovered from her sickness, she can beat these. (1) TEARINGUPTHECREDIT has been hot out of town and she has shown she has the speed for these; using. Both (5) BABY GOT BACK and (9) TWIN B BEACHDREAMS were front end winners who enjoyed easy early fractions. Both are bets-against for me this week.

Race 11: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES 2YO Fillies

(1) DIXIE BAYAMA closed well without threatening a sharp winner last week and she is one of several that could win this finale. (6) SHADOWY is almost sure to improve dropping out of the Golds and she could be a big front end threat here. (4) B MY SUNSHINE looks primed for a sharp debut effort based on her qualifying efforts and she is a Pick 4 must-use for me. (3) BETTOR DEAL has improving form. She can take another share here. (2) GIRL SCOUT COOKIE never misses a check so she is hard to leave out of the High-5.
