Race 1: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS LEG 1 3 YO COLTS GELDINGS PACE **Gtd. $100,000 Pick 5**
(1) GANDOLF THE BLACK paced a 54-flat back 1/2 last time which should have him primed for a top effort in this initial Grassroots dash of the year; top call to kick off the early Pick 5. (4) WATCHMAKER was a good Grassroots horse last year. McNair, who won with him in both of his first two starts, returns to the bike. My only concern is the 6+ weeks between that last qualifier and this 2023 debut. (8) CLOWN CAR blasted and made himself a trip last time then fired home for the win. He is sharp and possible here. (9) CHASING GOOSEBUMPS is worth a look for the exotics shipping in with solid form.

(6) CHOCOLATE PARFAIT hinted she was sitting on a big one when she flew late in his 2023 debut and when she was put into play last week, she showed what she can do. This is a tougher field, but I'll give her the nod to repeat. (2) UNBEATABLE KEMP beat a Breeders Crown winner last week by racing aggressively and he is in with a decent chance to double up here. (1) WARRAWEE XALT is right there every week, and he should get another good piece of this racing close to the front. (5) SOUTHWIND DOMINO had every chance to go by last week and he hung. I'll use him on the bottom here.

Race 3: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS LEG 1 3 YO COLTS GELDINGS PACE
(9) P L QUICKSAND is fast enough to beat these and the switch to Roy in the bike should promote some early speed tonight; price play. (7) SAUBLE ACE flew late to win his sophomore debut then came up sick. That the stale date will inflate his price a bit tonight; using. (3) IKES DREAM looked good winning here last week but I'm not sure he gets the same easy trip on the engine. He may be an underlay in this spot. (2) BETTOR B SIRIUS gets needed post relief tonight and he should be in the exotics mix this time likely racing much closer to the front.
Race 4: 5YO and Younger NW1 or $7,000 LT - Pick 4
(8) MY ONE PERCENT got a clean line now he gets J Mac in the bike. If he behaves, he should have a big shot tonight. (9) CRUISING TOM raced well vs. Grassroots foes last time and I like that he has shown some gate speed in both 2023 starts. He has a good chance vs. these. (10) CASSIUS HANOVER is another that should be able to overcome the wide post and he is improving. He will be on my early multi-race tickets. (2) RICARDO got bet on debut, but he blew up at the start. I'll proceed with caution here.
Race 5: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS LEG 1 3 YO COLTS GELDINGS PACE
(3) SHADOWS TERROR faced at least one Gold colt in his last start so this is a class drop of sorts. Henry should find him the winning trip vs. these. (8) COOP A LOOP brings a strong record north and his fast win at Northfield Park shows that he has the speed to contend with these; Exacta factor. (7) FULL HORSE sat and rallied last time, and he should be closing for a slice here, too. (4) SHANGHAI JAMES is sharp, and he should get a good spot early. I see him sticking around for a share.
Race 6: 3YO and 4YO Colts and Geldings NW $7,000 LT - Pick 5
(4) CANCUN KAI popped and stopped at a very short price on debut now he gets the leading driver in the bike. I think he makes amends tonight. (2) BOLD BET paced a decent back 1/2 in that same race which was his debut. If he lays closer tonight and the choice falters late again, he could be the upsetter. (8) MUFFERAW JOE is in good form, but he has missed a month and he draws widest. I'd demand a price here. I can see (3) TAKE A BREAK improving enough to land in the bottom of the exotics this time.
Race 7: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS LEG 1 3 YO COLTS GELDINGS PACE - Pick 4
(8) DICE R OUT took a ton of action last week and was aggressively handled to get the job done. When trainer Beaton gets them sharp, they typically stay good for a while; call to repeat. (7) JOKER ON JACK was 3rd after cutting the mile past the 1/2 then lacking room in the lane. He is the obvious danger. (6) FADE TO LIGHT has all thirds in three starts on his record this year but I like the way he closed last week. He is in with a shot here. (3) THE GOLDEN JET figures to improve on the class drop here but I prefer to use him underneath vs. these.
Race 8: 5YO and Younger winners of 2 (F&M3) but not more than 4 (F&M5) or $50K LT AE: 4YO and 5YO to be claimed for $50,000
(8) HANDSOME SEBASTIAN never looked a loser once he made front last week, and he gets the call to repeat. (4) WARRAWEE YES is in tougher here, but he has won two of his last three and he is sharp and dangerous. (6) NOTHINGBUTADREAMER is capable vs. these but I'm sure his ultimate goal is in the Grassroots vs. fellow sophomores, so I'd be careful here, especially when you consider his most recent qualifier came one calendar month ago. (1) EDEN ONTHEHILL never misses the top four and he is hard to leave off Super bets.

Race 9: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS LEG 1 3 YO COLTS GELDINGS PACE
(2) WINMEBAK got a spin around the track in a 1:49 mile which should have him primed for this first Grassroots event of the year and he gets J Mac in the bike tonight; top call. (7) REIGN SUPREME came close to taking down a good colt in Ace Of Aces and he should be the main threat here. (5) SOUNDS GOOD figures to improve enough in this easier spot to hit the board. (8) MURRAYS WATCHING is showing improvement and he is worth using in the exotics tonight.
Race 10: 3YO Colts and Geldings Grassroots Starters in 2023
(5) RESOLVE TO WIN is peaking and he should be tough to beat here if he gets the same aggressive drive that he got in his last start, a dominating winning effort at Flamboro. (8) DEVILS ARCH is capable if he behaves, and he will offer a great price in this spot; using. (2) BUSTING WITH PRIDE flew home last week and he will take plenty of action coming off that mile, but he could get overbet and he is no lock. Your call. (3) FLOYD THE FREAK should flash speed and stick around for a slice. (4) ROUGH TUFF TESTED is another that should be in the exotics mix racing from close range.
