Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Thursday 9/23

Garnet Barnsdale|Sep 21, 2021
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Meet Stats: 246 -- 723 / $1,350.80 (-$95.20)

Best Bets: 35 -- 66 / $125.60 (-$6.40)

Spot Plays: 20 -- 67 / $148.30 (+$14.30)

Best Bet: MISSION THREE (8TH)

Spot Play: Y S MATHIS BRO (3RD)

Early Pick 5: 3,4,8/5,6,7/1,4,9/2,3/2,8 = $21.60

Late Pick 5: 2,6,7/2,8,9/4/1,3/3,7 = $14.40

Early Pick 4: 2,3/2,8/2,6,7/2,8,9 = $36

Late Pick 4: 2,8,9/4/1,3/3,7 = $12

Race 1: 2YO Fillies NW1 or $7,000 LT Guaranteed $100,000 Pick 5**

(8) FRANTASY HANOVER drops out of Grand Circuit company and she should have a good chance to graduate tonight; top call. (3) JUST CALL ME SONG fits well here but she has missed a month so she might need this race. I wouldn't take a short price here. (4) BETTER DOUBLE FLIP is another that fits well as one of three winners in the field. She is another to consider for Pick 5 tickets. (6) UNITY should leave for position and stick around to share.

Race 2: 2YO NW2 or $30,000 LT

(5) WORLD AT WAR DEO is the class of this field and he should be tough to beat if he gets a reasonable trip. (6) THREEPOINTBLUECHIP got a perfect trip but he exploded to an easy win once he found clearance in the lane. This $115K purchase has some upside and he wouldn't be a big surprise in this spot. (7) LEXUS RANGER is on a good roll right now and he has developed a nice late kick. He is another viable Pick 5 possibility. (3) STONEBRIDGE ZEUS has the look of one that can sneak into the Super; using underneath.

Race 3: 2YO NW1 or $17,000

This is a tough race with so many Grassroots horses in it leading up to the Semi-Final. (9) Y S MATHIS BRO produced a 27 3/5 third 1/4 and he continued on well. He isn't looking forward to any Grassroots races so he is worth using here. He should offer a good price from out there, too. (4) MACHO PHIL looks clearly best off his most recent win and he will be tough if he is within striking range, but he also has bigger fish to fry soon; your call. (1) RON left well from the widest post to get position then he lacked room in the lane last time and he has upset potential tonight. (8) CHIKABOOM should be good for another share racing from close up.

Race 4: Claiming $17,500 for NW $41,000 LT Pick 4

(2) MYINSIDEVOICE goes to Moreau's barn here and he gets the nod in a wide-open race. (3) VICTORY MOVE hung with the leaders as they kicked home in 28 and change last week and this spot seems easier; using. (5) ROCK N ZEUS was in a bad spot last week and he still closed willingly. He is another in with a shot in this field. (7) GAMBLING PRINCE should be good for another share closing belatedly.

Race 5: Claiming $17,500 for NW $81,000 LT

(2) SUNNY BO made a sweeping move on the turn then gamely outpaced a rival who slid up the pylons in the lane. He gets the call to repeat in a race where he could get another favorable pace setup. (8) CENTURY GIGALO was lights-out in his first local start and he is likely the one to beat here. (6) RIOT made a nice move late in the stretch on the far outside and I see him closing for another slice tonight. (7) SAM MCKEE HANOVER was 2nd to the choice in a decent effort. He seems more likely to take a share than a win in this spot.

Race 6: 2YO NW $11,000 LT Pick 5

It appears that a lightbulb went off with (6) DON'T POKE THE BEAR in his last start as he improved sharply, pacing a 54 1/5 back 1/2 and dropping several seconds off his final time. He gets top billing here. (2) ST LADS STERLING fits much better here and he should be dangerous in this spot; using. (7) HES A LADIES MAN gets Henry back in the bike here and that likely means aggression is coming. He's not out of this. (1) TWIN B AUSTIN, a $40K Lexington buy, goes for a hot barn and he is worth a look for the exotics.

Race 7: NW $3,100 L5 or $8,400 L10 Pick 4

(9) NOTHING BUT MUSCLE drops and he should get sent forward leaving the gate. I'll give him top call over (8) WHITE TIGER, who is probably the best horse in here, but likely to get away close to the back of the pack again. (2) INTENSE JUSTICE shouldn't get parked the mile tonight and he is in with a chance here; consider for multi-race tickets. (1) HOLDIN ACES is in great form but he faces tougher. I see him landing in the bottom of the Tri or Super.

Race 8: Claiming Handicap $8,000 to $11,000

You won't get 7 to 1 on the streaking (4) MISSION THREE tonight, but he will likely be hard to beat in this spot. (3) COOL ROCK was wildly over bet when claimed and he never threatened, but he did improve in that race and he can be an Exacta factor tonight. (7) MONTY MONO was game right to the wire last week and he just got nailed for 2nd. He should be a factor again. (8) TOO MUCH DUNCAN gets the leading driver for this first start off the claim and that makes him worth a look for the exotics.

Race 9: F&M 4YO and Younger NW1 or $9,000 LT

(3) RAVISHIN RUBY has looked good at Kawartha Downs and this isn't the toughest spot. The barn has been running hot and she gets top call. (1) ST LADS EXPRESSO is another shipper with decent form and she picks up Hudon here. I'm not crazy about any in here that have already raced and failed at Mohawk Park, so I'll use her on multi-race tickets. (8) DILLY TARYN closed nicely at huge odds here last week and she is worth a look. (6) WRITENINSAND S BG should be close again but she seems more likely to take a small share.

Race 10: 4YO and Younger NW2 or $15,000

(3) CODYS WATCHING made a big move on the heavy favorite last week but that rival was ready to pace a sub-151 mile and he was just too good. This gelding should be tough in here facing easier. (7) LORD ANTHONY gets McNair while coming off a first-up effort against Grassroots foes. He figures to be right there vs. these. (1) TAKE A GAMBLE exits the same race as the choice and he should be in the exotics mix here; using underneath. (4) FEAR THE SHADOW moves inside and he can land in the High-5 tonight. (5) SUNDOWN figures to leave quickly and stick around for a share.
