Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Thursday 8/7

Kevin Plowcha|Aug 05, 2025
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Top Pick Stats: 115/344 (-$86.80)

Best Bets: 12/30 (-$13.60); Spot Plays: 8/31 (-$20.30)

Best Bet: ADINA HANOVER (Race 8)

Spot Play: STROBE LITE (Race 2)

Early Pick 5: 2,3,6,8,9/2/4,5/1,7/6 $4.00

Late Pick 5: 2,5/1,7/4/1,5/4,9 $3.20

Race 1: 2 YEAR OLD FILLIES: NW 1 RACE OR $8,000 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES.

(3) SOCIAL WIZARD showed plenty of speed on debut and came back with a fine qualifier after a DNF. I’ll count on her being ready. (9) TRINITYS DIAMOND comes off some stateside stakes tries, though she made two breaks in three starts. I think she will be floated out and can put forth a good effort. (8) PATS QUEEN is taking small steps forward and flashed a solid amount of late trot in her latest. She can close and spice up exotics. (2) UNSURPASSABLE has produced two decent morning preps and keeps the services of James Macdonald. She is another that I will use in multis.

Race 2: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GOLD LEG 3. 2 YEAR OLD TROTTING COLTS & GELDINGS. STARTING FEE $900 CDN ($700 USD)

(2) STROBE LITE made two moves in his latest but was still battling late. He should have every chance to track and pounce with the post switch. (3) ANOTHER GREAT MASS got the jump on his rivals with a soft middle half, and was able to hold them off. He should get similar respect in a shorter field. (6) TOUCHEDBYANANGEL went a big mile to get in contention and finished a very strong second. He can compete for the win with any trip. (5) CRUNCHINTHEODDS could try the forward tactics that got him an easy win two back. He can hold on for a share.

Race 3: POP UP SERIES: F&M CLAIMING $8,000 FOR NW $5,000 LAST 5 STARTS. ALLOWANCES FOR AGE. LEG 2. AE: LEG 1 STARTERS. MUST START IN 2 LEGS TO BE ELIGIBLE TO FINAL.

(5) DOLLYDAYDREAM races off the claim after an even effort. She can produce a rebound effort tonight. (4) CENTURY LUNAR got picked off in the late stages in her latest. She looms as a major win candidate despite zero wins this year. (2) SOLIDAZABRICKHOUSE has been battling for checks against tougher claiming company. She can sit close and hit the board. (7) PRETTY MISSY MAY has had tough trips recently. She can get into the race in a variety of ways.

Race 4: 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 2 (FM 3) RACES OR $20,000 (OS $25,000) LIFETIME.

(1) P L STEVIE looks to make it three wins in a row. She is in top form right now and should have every chance if J-Mac is on again. (7) CABALLERO made a good account of himself when finishing a solid second as the favorite. He is another logical player. (9) MEADOWVIEW ROTHY continues to improve with every start, but draws wide. She can grind out a good finish. (6) TH MONICA draws slightly better after a break. She can ride along the inside for a piece.

Race 5: FILLIES & MARES, 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 1 RACE (WINNERS FOR A PURSE OF $9,000 OR LESS 2 RACES) OR $8,500 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES.

(6) COLD CREEK FUEGO came up short in her third career start but paced a strong mile. Look for her to step forward and get the job done. I trust (1) WHO ARE YOU to be put into the race a little more than others. She can pass rivals and get a big piece. (7) ITLL BE ALRIGHT will likely be forward again, but doesn’t have the staying power unless things really go her way. (5) MO WICKED comes off two solid efforts at Hanover. She can pick up a share tonight.

Race 6: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GOLD LEG 3. 2 YEAR OLD TROTTING COLTS & GELDINGS. STARTING FEE $900 CDN ($700 USD).

(2) IN THE BLACK had zero chance after taking back in an action-packed race. Post relief will help. (5) L P BAY comes off two sharp, winning efforts and should be forwardly placed. (1) FIRST CLASS MASS gets his nose on the gate after a second tier try where he broke at the start. He won’t be as far back this time if he minds his manners. (3) THE GREEN GAZOO might be overmatched at this level but gets major post relief. I’ll use him underneath.

Race 7: 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 1 (WINNERS FOR A PURSE OF $9,000 OR LESS 2 RACES) RACE OR $8,500 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES.

(7) CRYPTO HANOVER should be a solid favorite after her second place finish last week. She is the one to beat. (1) VALDIUS was a solid winner in her only morning prep. She will have to handle the rail but can step forward. (2) TRIX ON YOU took another step forward despite the wide draw on debut. He should fare better with this draw. (4) RESOLVED is usually forwardly placed and in contention at the wire. She can grab another share.

Race 8: WHENUWISHUPONASTAR FINAL: 2 YEAR OLD PACING FILLIES.

(4) ADINA HANOVER was up against it from a pace standpoint when trying a move into a slow middle half. I think she leaves it all on the table this week. (5) JAY was well rated and got the repeat win. She will likely be the first to the lead. (7) VENUS N SERENA could show some gate speed this week which would put her in a much better spot to do some damage. (6) TWIN B FIERCE was another who was up against the pace but clawed her way to a check. She can do the same tonight.

Race 9: POP UP SERIES: F&M CLAIMING $8,000 FOR NW $5,000 LAST 5 STARTS. ALLOWANCES FOR AGE. LEG 2. AE: LEG 1 STARTERS. MUST START IN 2 LEGS TO BE ELIGIBLE TO FINAL.

(5) FIRST FILLY CHIP races off the claim and could be forwardly placed this week. The price will be short if J-Mac chooses her. (1) ALL SHE CAN got up in the final strides after a first over move. She is in solid form and can make it three straight wins. (2) LISAS ALL IN has been better when sitting up close. She can ride the pylons to a board hit at a price. (7) RAMBARAN ROSE tends to work from off the pace and get minor checks. She has just one win this year.

Race 10: CLAIMING $20,000 FOR NW $67,000 (OS $87,500) LIFETIME. ALLOWANCES FOR AGE. AE: N/A $620 P/S IN 2025.

(4) ABOVEMYPAYGRADE finally showed gate speed and got the job done after firing towards the front. That versatility makes him extremely dangerous. (9) ON TIME DELIVERY could be forgotten about after the scratch but looked strong in his qualifier. He can spice up exotics. (6) BEACH CRUISER was better in his latest, and could be another early pace presence. He is having a solid year. (2) SAULSBROOK TSUNAMI ships to Mohawk after a stop at Batavia. Look for him to work from off the pace. (10) SPORTY BEE will likely take back, but can work a trip from off the pace to round out the Hi-5.
