Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Thursday 7/9

Garnet Barnsdale|Jul 07, 2020
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Meet Stats: 67-229 / $370.60 (-$87.40)

Best Bets: 11-21 / $39.90 (-$2.10)

Spot Plays: 6-21 / $45.10 (+3.10)

Best Bet: PEMBERTON (9TH)

Spot Play: HIGHLAND MOWGLI (6TH)

Early Pick 5: 3,5,9/5,7,8/2,4/1,3,4/2,9 = $21.60

Late Pick 5: 4,5,7/5,6/3,6/5/1,2,3 = $7.20

Early Pick 4: 1,3,4/2,9/4,5,7/5,6 = $36

Late Pick 4: 3,6/5/1,2,3/3,4,5,7 = $24

Race 1: 4YO and Younger NW2 or $15,000 LT

(5) SUNSHINE LIST paced a huge mile in defeat in Grassroots company last time and he should kick this Pick 5 off as a winning favorite. (3) BETTOR AT HIGHTIDE produced his best mile yet in defeat last week and he looks like the main threat. (9) HEART ON MY SLEEVE was a solid 2nd to the very tough YS Mathis, but from post 9 here he is likely to be coming late for another share. (2) LUCID DREAMS is capable of better than he showed last week. I'll use him underneath here.

Race 2: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GOLD 2YO COLTS AND GELDINGS

(8) TOKYO SEELSTER was an easy winner and now he changes barns to the top trainer, and he gets red-hot Filion to drive; top call. (5) ROOKIE SEASON dug in when called upon in the lane and he should be the main danger. (7) DEALIN WITH DEWEY is a homebred first foal of a dam that earned close to $600,000 and he is sent out by the top trotting barn. A win from him here would not be a shock. (1) JULA MAGICIAN was flawless in her two qualifiers and she's worth a look for the exotics.

Race 3: Starters for a Purse of $9,000 or Less in One of Last Three Starts

(2) ISLANDSPECIALMAJOR just needed a little class relief to recapture his form last time and this spot isn't much tougher; call to repeat. (4) SHADOW PLACE went a big trip racing on the rim to win in Sarnia and he has raced well over this track before. Consider using in this Exacta at a price. (6) RACEMUP couldn't repel the pocket sitter late in the mile last week but he remains a viable contender for at least a share here. (9) PRINT MEDIA is capable against these but post 9 may doom him to a smaller share.

Race 4: 3YO NW 1 or $7,000

(3) HALLIDAY DREAM was dominant in his lone qualifier and this 1/2 brother to decent local trotter Meeas Dream gets the nod to win at first asking here. (4) HEAT WAVE HANOVER ran out of racetrack last week and he should be a threat against these. (1) MASSENO finished full of trot in his lone qualifier and he can be dangerous if he is within striking range at the 3/4 pole. (10) JOHANN is capable of a late rally if he can stay trotting.

Race 5: NW $3,500 L5 or $8,000 L10

(2) ARUKIDINME CABBIE has been facing much tougher in recent races and this is a good spot for him to wake up; top call. (9) OSBORNE SEELSTER paced a big mile in defeat last week and he should be the main threat. (6) ROOTIN TOOTIN exits a fast race where he was good enough to hit the board and he should be a factor in here, too. (4) BIG MACH N seems to fit decently at this level, and I see him passing horses late to take a share.

Race 6: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GOLD 2YO COLTS AND GELDINGS Pick 5

(7) HIGHLAND MOWGLI was unhurried in his debut, but he showed some good zip in the back 1/2 of what should be a perfect primer for this stakes try and he gets top call here. (4) LIFELONG WISH was airborne late in the mile after breaking twice and if he stays flat, he should be right there. (5) WALKONTHEMOON couldn't finish the job, but that was still a solid debut and he shouldn’t be counted out here. (8) MACHO MARTINI is one to perhaps tab for next week, making this debut in a tough spot.

Race 7: CLM HDCP $8,000 to $10,000

(6) OSIRIS BLUE CHIP should be able to clear these quickly and that makes him a good candidate to triple up. (5) STATE OF PLAY had a long trip against the choice last week and a better trip could see him spring an upset here. (7) ST LADS CASH should be passing horses again in this spot; using underneath. (10) DOVUTO HANOVER was heavily bet last time but showed little. He is a bit of a head-scratcher currently, but he is capable if he brings something close to his best race.

Race 8: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GOLD 2YO COLTS AND GELDINGS Pick 4

(3) SWEET SOUL DAVID's furious stretch rally fell just short in his debut but that race should set him up perfectly for this initial stakes try. I'll give him the nod over (6) ROYAL TYRONE who was also a narrow loser in much quicker time, and he is likely the one to catch and beat. (8) LOGAN PARK has shown he can get away from the gate quickly which will help in this debut from the outermost post; consider for the exotics. (1) DEFCON SEELSTER, a $23,000 London Selected Sale purchase, looks well-prepped for this debut effort and he should land in this Super.

Race 9: 4YO and Younger NW2 (F&M3) or $20,000 (F&M $25,000) LT

(5) PEMBERTON has been outstanding so far now he picks up catch-driver Henry. A threepeat at a short price loom. (3) QUESO FRESCO raced well to be 2nd to the choice last time and he should be an Exacta factor again here. (9) DELILAH SEELSTER wasn't beaten far despite having broken equipment. She could add some value to the exotics. (8) VICTOR INVICTUS has raced well in three of his last four (the other race he broke stride) and he should be on the ticket here.

Race 10: 3YO NW1 or $7,000

(2) DOUBLEAGENTMAN was unlucky in defeat two starts back in this class then he raced decently in tougher Grassroots company. He should be tough in here. (3) COLD CREEK CABO has tried to make wide moves in both starts to no avail. If he lays closer early here, he is in with a chance. (1) THE DEVIL YOU KNOW finished well in both qualifiers; consider using underneath in this debut. (6) PLAY THERAPY is likely to show speed again and hang around for a share.

Race 11: ONT SIRED GRASSROOTS STARTERS IN 2020

(3) CHOIR MASTER paced a 54 4/5 middle 1/2 last time and that effort took its toll late in the mile. He should get an easier trip here and he gets top billing. (4) NEED AROCKET performed decently in his Grassroots try considering it was his first race on the big circuit and he should be a threat here. Both (5) IMALOOKERTOO and (7) USURPER are worth a look for multi-race tickets on barn alone as Moore's stock has been on fire lately. (2) BETTER B SWIFT should contend for a share with his nose back on the gate here.
