Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Thursday 4/27

Garnet Barnsdale|Apr 25, 2023
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Top Pick Stats: 175 – 523 / $966.90 (-$79.10)

Best Bets: 28 – 47 / $111.50 (+$17.50)

Spot Plays: 11 – 47 / $69.30 (-$24.70)

Best Bet: PESO HANOVER (1ST)

Spot Play: ALL STAR YANKEE (8TH)

Early Pick 5: 1,2/2,5,7/3,5,6,8/3,6/1,6,8 = $28.80

Late Pick 5: 1,2,4/2,5/2,4/4,5,7/6,7,8,10 = $28.80

Early Pick 4: 3,6/1,6,8/1,2,4/2,5 = $7.20

Late Pick 4: 2,5/2,4/4,5,7/6,7,8,10 = $9.60

Race 1: 5YO and younger NW1 or $7,000 LT **Gtd. $100,000 Pick 5**

(1) PESO HANOVER closed well into the teeth of the fastest 1/4 of the race and produced a 27 2/5 kicker in his sophomore debut. He looks best here and he gets the nod. (2) DJIMON is a $70K Lexington buy that is a 1/2 to good local trotter Ritson. He will likely be driven conservatively here to get a clean line, but if he is close enough at the 1/8th pole, I could see him vaulting past late; using. (5) ENZO AGUELLO also raced well in his 2023 debut, but the winner was just too good. He can be an exotics factor again. (3) TITAN FLAX S closed well in both 2023 starts and he should be coming late for another share.

Race 2: CLM HDCP $8,000 to $10,000

(2) DREAMFAIR MOXY was claimed by Waxman two starts back, given a test run at Flamboro, now Roy takes the lines. We have seen this work a few times recently as the barn continues to run hot; top call. (7) MACH IMPACT and (5) THUNDERING JIM battled for the win last week and they will likely be right there again tonight. They are both players to consider for the early Pick 5. (8) ARTISTIC PICK takes a slice almost every week. He is in the exotics mix again.

Race 3: Claiming $35,000

(6) CLEVELAND MASSIMO is on a good roll and he fits this condition like a glove. Driver Young, who has been a good partner for him, will likely put him in play earlier this time leaving from the best post. He is the one to beat. This is an easier spot for (8) TEXACO MAN, another that I expect to leave sharper this week. He can be a threat to the choice. (3) BELLA CAVALLA provided perfect cover for the choice last time. She is capable if the trips get reversed. (5) FLYING FORMATION raced better last week with McNair in the bike and he is worth a look at a price tonight.

Race 4: 5YO and Younger NW1 or $7,000 LT Pick 4

(3) DEADLINE HALL fired a big kicker in his sophomore debut and he can win here if he gets moving earlier. (6) LITE THE CANDLES looked terrific winning his debut, but he did get a soft middle 1/2. He will likely have to be caught here. (7) CASSIUS HANOVER made it onto the board after starting from the 10-hole; he can take a share. (1) YANK MY HALO took a slice in the Spring series and he can sit a trip here and land in the exotics.

Race 5: 3YO Fillies NW $5,000 LT

(8) BETTOR CALL MOM’s debut chasing a strong winner was good as she found her best stride late. This is a good spot for her and Roy will likely be more aggressive tonight; top call. (6) KUPER TROOPER is another that finished well that figures to contend from a better spot tonight. She looks like the main threat. (1) CENTURY JAMILA raced okay against an impressive winner in her debut. She is another that is worth using on multi-race tickets. (10) EBONY LADY paced a nice back 1/2 in her lone qualifier. She is a homebred fourth foal of her dam and the first three are all winners. She’s worth a look for the bottom of the exotics.

Race 6: 5YO and Younger NW2 (F&M3) or $27,000 LT Pick 5

(4) INN AT RODANTHE faces several sophomore returnees that have their eyes on a summer stakes schedule, so he might be able to steal this on the lead at a price. (1) WHAT AN ANGEL’s return race was okay and she should be sharper tonight. She figures to be a threat this time. (2) STONEBRIDGE BOMBER showed promise at 2 and I like the late speed that he showed in his two qualifiers. He is in with a shot here. (7) NO TURNING BACK is right there every week and he should be part of the exotics again.

Race 7: F&M 5YO and Younger NW1 or $7,000 Pick 4

(5) NORTHERN MAGENTA was good in her sophomore debut and none of her previous gait issues materialized. She looks best here. (2) ITS YOUR CHOICE was Macdonald’s pick over the choice and she raced okay in her season’s debut but came up against a very strong winner. She is the obvious threat. (1) CLIMB THE POLE took a Gold check in only her second start at 2 and her qualifier on 4/21 was sharp. She is in with a decent shot if the intent is there starting from the rail. (8) HEAVENS FURY passed some rivals in the fastest 1/4 of the race, which is always a good sign, and she is in the exotics mix here.

Race 8: 5YO and Younger NW2 (F&M3) or $27,000 LT

(4) ALL STAR YANKEE is capable of better than he has shown in his first two starts at 3 and he draws perfectly tonight. I’ll stick with him expecting a good price tonight. (2) DAHLQUIST HANOVER was hammered at the windows last week and he delivered a big winning mile. He is the one to beat here. (1) SWEET DETRMINATION is a Gold winner but she faces males in this sophomore debut, and she will likely get a conservative drive here considering she has much bigger goals in her sights. I’ll use her underneath. (5) DEVEREUX SEELSTER’s qualifier for this shows that he might be faster now; he can take a share.

Race 9: 5YO and Younger NW2 (F&M3) or $27,000 LT

(7) SOUTHWIND COORS qualified well for this sophomore debut and Macdonald chose her over two other contenders in this race. She gets the nod in a good race that has a few options. (5) CREED HANOVER was good last week but he closed from too far back. Sorrie returns now and he will likely get more aggressive; using. (4) ROUGH TUFF TESTED’s sophomore debut was solid, and he is consistent and sure-gaited. He is another in with a chance. (1) ENOLA flew late last week but I wonder if she will be too far back starting from the rail again. I’ll use her underneath.

Race 10: F&M CLM HDCP $12,000 to $15,000

(7) GREYSTONE TREASURE went too fast early last week. I can see her blasting and ending up in the pocket; gets top billing. (10) NIMAH FRANCO N came close to her life’s mark when winning last week. She is sharp and dangerous despite drawing widest. (8) PREMIER BETTINA is an obvious one to use racing for Moreau off the claim and getting J Mac. (6) ROCKINWITHCUSTARD finished fast last week and she should be closer early this time. She should be good for a share. (3) SWEET ROCKIN GIA is a good one to use on the bottom of the Super and High-5.
