Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Thursday 4/20

Garnet Barnsdale|Apr 18, 2023
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Top Pick Stats: 180 – 527 / $969.20 (-$84.80)

Best Bets: 28 – 47 / $111.00 (+$17.00)

Spot Plays: 11 – 47 / $71.10 (-$22.90)

Best Bet: PROUD TO BE LINDY (5TH)

Spot Play: BEAUTY IS BLIND (2ND)

Early Pick 5: 2,3,7,8,10/3,7,8/3,4,5/1,9/4 = $18

Late Pick 5: 1,9/1,3/6,8/1,5,7,8/2,5,6 = $19.20

Early Pick 4: 1,9/4/1,9/1,3 = $1.60

Late Pick 4: 1,3/6,8/1,5,7,8/2,5,6 = $9.60

Race 1: 5YO and Younger NW1 or $7,000 LT **Gtd. $100,000 Pick 5**

(7) APRIL TIGER is a homebred full-sister to $231K earner Horse Trader (1:56 1/5), who won his debut in an OSS Grassroots race. I’ll land here hoping for a price to kick off the Pick 5. (10) FOX VALLEY ONTARIO finds a good spot and he should be right there if he repeats something close to last week’s effort. (8) ROYALTY AGREEMENT was close in a race here a month ago and he has held his form. He is another in with a shot. (3) OVERPAYMENT showed some promise at 2 and he qualified well for this. He will be pointed to Stakes, no doubt, and he doesn’t need to win here, but he is capable on his best.

Race 2: F&M CLM $12,000

(7) BEAUTY IS BLIND’s first-over pursuit of a class-dropping favorite was futile last week. She fits better vs. these and she gets top billing. (8) GOLDEN LEADER finished ahead of the choice and she came from far back. She can win this is she lays closer early. (3) SHAKEITIFYOUGOTIT looked good taking a new life’s mark here last week, but price is gone now and I’m not sure she gets the same trip facing tougher tonight. I’m inclined to try to beat her this time. (1) SWEET ROCKIN GIA produced a fast kicker to take a share and she is in the exotics mix again.

Race 3: F&M NW3 or $40,000 LT

(5) LINDYS IRISHCREAM finished off her rookie campaign with a bang, with three wins and a 2nd in her last four starts, and she looks ready to roll for a barn that typically sends them ready; top call. (3) ANGEL OF MY DREAMS got Macdonald, got bet and prevailed last week. That was a big improvement and she is a contender right back. (4) NO TURNING BACK is right there every week and she will get there soon; using. (6) MVN should be good for another slice starting from the best post tonight.

Race 4: 3YO and 4YO F&M NW1 or $7,500 LT Pick 4

(9) DANGEROUS CURVES raced well in defeat to a 3-5 chalk and she should have a big shot in this spot. $40,000 Harrisburg purchase (1) MOLLOP HANOVER is a full-sister to a 15-time winner that took a mark of 1:51 at Pocono and she looks ready for this debut. Owner Coleman indicated she was high on this filly in a “Twos in Training” video and she will be on my multi-race tickets. (6) WELLERS WATCHING took a shot first up in the Spring series in an improved effort and she is in the exotics mix tonight. (8) ODDS ON CHECKMATE was decent in her comeback race last week and she can sit close again and take another share.

Race 5: 5YO and Younger NW1 or $7,000 LT

(4) PROUD TO BE LINDY, who finished 3rd in the Mohawk Million last year, lays over this field and she should win if she gets a clean trip and an aggressive steer. (2) WARRAWEE YAMA trotted a big third 1/4 in a decent effort in her sophomore debut and she can be an Exacta factor tonight. (8) ENZO AGUELLO was decent at 2 and I can see him landing on the board. (9) CHAMPAGNE BETTINA gets Macdonald here, which will likely result in her being sent off as an underlay. I prefer to use her underneath starting from out there.

Race 6: 3YO and 4YO F&M NW1 or $7,500 LT Pick 5

(1) MOONSTRUCK qualified like a rocket for a barn that sends them ready, and she adds Lasix tonight. She should prove tough to beat as the chalk. (9) DUCHENNE was in some tough races at 2 and she gets the leading driver here, who also qualified her twice prepping for this sophomore debut. She is in the mix. (4) KUPER TROOPER is worth a look for the exotics moving into Steacy’s barn tonight; using underneath. (3) TWO ACROSS MARION likely sits a trip and rounds out the Tri or Super.

Race 7: 5YO and Younger NW1 or $7,000 LT Pick 4

(1) ITS YOUR CHOICE makes her sophomore debut in a good spot considering she was finishing 3rd in the Super Final when last seen; top call. I like the way (3) IM ABOVE AVERAGE finished last week and she is worth a look for the multis at a price here. (9) LITE THE CANDLES qualified well for this, but I prefer to use her underneath starting from a wide post on debut. (4) GREAT GUNS can close for a slice if he shows his typical late brush.

Race 8: CLM HDCP $8,000 to $10,000

(8) ARTISTIC PICK is the clear top choice here after finishing a close 2nd to a razor-sharp rival that is not in this field. (6) THUNDERING JIM was used hard from post 10 and he stuck around for a share. He should be much closer to the choice here starting from the best post now and he is the other one that I’ll use in the multis. (5) MACH IMPACT was 3rd behind the choice and he should sit a trip and take another slice here. (2) FOUR FOR ORR got a terrible trip racing off the Moreau claim. He should go better starting from the inside and he is in the exotics mix.

Race 9: 5YO and Younger NW2 or $20,000 LT AE: NW $2,500 in 2023

(5) CREED HANOVER got Macdonald, woke up, dropped several seconds and raced tough to win. Off that effort, he gets the call to repeat despite the driver change to Sorrie. (7) ALL STAR YANKEE should get a lot out of last week’s start where he raced first-up, and I think he gets more aggressive at the start this time. I see him as a speed threat that could lead all the way this time. (8) EDEN ONTHEHILL tripped-out to beat maidens but he did it in fast time and he is not out of this. The leading driver lands on (1) ROUGH TUFF TESTED, who was a good Sires Stakes performer at 2 and is another in with a chance.

Race 10: 3YO and 4YO F&M NW1 or $7,500 LT

(6) BLUE GLAMBER raced well from post 10 in her sophomore debut and she gets top billing in what should be a good spot for her. Debutante (2) ALL OF ME, a $26K London Selected purchase, showed progression in her second qualifier and she isn’t out of place vs. these; using. (5) CANADA FIRST LADY paced a nice back 1/2 with Macdonald in the bike and he sticks with her; price look. (8) PROVE EM WRONG had some good Grassroots starts last year, but considering her final start and the way her first qualifier went this year, she is likely looking to get a clean line and finish strong here. I’ll use her underneath. (4) ASHLEES SWEETIE should improve exiting the Spring series and she can take a share.
