Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Thursday 3/11

Garnet Barnsdale|Mar 09, 2021
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Meet Stats: 35/117 - $180.60 (-$53.40)

Best Bets: 5/12 - $14.30 (-$9.70)

Spot Plays: 5/12 - $35.40 (+$11.40)

Best Bet: BIG MYRTLE (6TH)

Spot Play: NEXT BIG THING (9TH)

Early Pick 5: 2,5,8/4,7/3,6/1,3,7,8/1,5 = $19.20

Late Pick 5: 6/5,8,10/1,2/1,4,8/1,3 = $7.20

Early Pick 4: 1,3,7,8/1,5/6/5,8,10 = $24

Late Pick 4: 5,8,10/1,2/1,4,8/1,3 = $36

Race 1: CLAIMING $15,000 for NW $50,000 LT $100,000 Pick 5**

(8) SUNNY BO was given an aggressive steer last week and it almost paid off. He gets Jamieson now in a spot were he looks best and he gets the nod. (2) DON'T DILLY DALLY makes his first start in more than a year, but he qualified well for this and it doesn't appear to be a tough spot. He should be a threat here. (5) JUSTA BANDIT gets out of the second-tier racing off the claim and he is worth including in this early Pick 5. (9) QUIZZER gets McClure and is interesting at a price because he has some races last year that you don't see on his card now. That make him competitive vs. these; price look.

[DRF HARNESS: Get Harness Eye PPs for this card]

Race 2: BLIZZARD PACING SERIES 1ST LEG

(7) LAILA BLUE -- the highest earner in this field -- exits a much tougher race and she should improve sharply in this spot. She gets top call. (4) FILTER HANOVER was off stride before the start and didn't make it to the Fair Start pole last week. If her issues are straightened out, she can be a threat tonight. (1) CENTURY GALA is 2-for-2 this year but this is tougher. I'd demand a price here. (3) STEVIE SEELSTER should pass a few of these late and land in the Tri or Super.

[DRF BETS: Wager on tonight's Mohawk Park card at DRF Bets.com!]

Race 3: NW $3,000 L5 or $7,000 L10

(6) BRADY BUNCH took a lot of support at the windows here last week and raced only evenly. He drops to the bottom conditioned level now and keeps McClure; gets the nod. (3) DAWSON SPRINGS raced well twice in a row here at this level in February and then showed little from a bad post at Flamboro. He has the look of a contender in this spot; using. (10) ARRAKIS fired off the gate quickly for position last week and he was in the hunt until late in the mile. I can see him closing for a piece of this. (9) MUSICAL SPELL is always a good one to use in Tris and Supers at this level and he will offer a big price in this spot.

Race 4: CLAIMING HDCP $15,000 to $18,000 for NW $93K LT Pick 4

(8) BEACH BABY BEE is razor-sharp and he gets the call to repeat despite drawing widest. (7) SUNSHINE LOU was 2nd to the choice last time at Flamboro Downs when claimed and he has a chance to turn the tables here going for the new barn. (3) MOSSIES ART was in solid form before the break and I like that he had a qualifier leading to this return to the races. He isn't without a chance here. Not much went right for (1) PORTRSTOWNCHRIS IR from the 10-hole last time when he was claimed. He should race better tonight and can win with the right trip.

Race 5: CLAIMING HANDICAP $15,000 to $20,000

(1) KEEP COMING was claimed by the white-hot Auciello barn last week and that's enough for me to land on him in this spot where he seems to fit well anyway; top call. (5) CHEAPSKATE HANOVER was forced to alter course to try to get around the choice when he started to tire and he stayed game to the wire. He is in with a decent chance here. (7) A BOY NAMED SUUZZ will be coming late again but he might find the top two choices too tough; using underneath. (6) OUTLAW GUNPOWDER is sharp and dangerous, but he makes his fifth start in 22 days here and I'll play to beat him in this spot.

Race 6: BLIZZARD PACING SERIES 1ST LEG Pick 5

(6) BIG MYRTLE took a mid-race shuffle last week and found room in deep stretch when it was too late to make much of an impact, but she was moving well at the end of the mile in an effort that will serve her well tonight. Look for Roy to roll her and take no prisoners. (4) NICE KITTY HANOVER was patiently handled by teamster Macdonald last week who knew he was sitting behind the best mare. She might be coming too late if Big Myrtle sprints away at the 3/4 pole; using underneath. (2) ROBMOTION BLUE CHIP makes her 2021 debut facing some that have raced, but the West barn can send one ready; consider for the exotics. (3) CLASSYLANEPRECIOUS should be good for another small share tonight.

[DRF BETS: Wager on tonight's Mohawk Park card at DRF Bets.com!]

Race 7: CLAIMING HANDICAP $10,000 to $12,000 Pick 4

(5) FLUFF ME UP is 2-for-3 since coming off the break and he's well situated here to take another win; call to repeat. (10) MEADOWBRANCH MEMO had a long trip from the 9-hole and he couldn't sustain a move he made at the 3/4 pole. He has a chance to upset here if he gets a better trip. (8) AMERICAN DREAM BOY's Northfield Park form isn't bad and he is worth a look at what should be a square price. (2) MONTALBANO BI shows improving form and he should be good for at least a slice racing from close range tonight.

Race 8: BLIZZARD PACING SERIES 1ST LEG

(1) RUBY ON RAILS paced two big miles recently at the Meadowlands and that should bode well here in the opening leg of this stakes series. She gets top call as she returns to the Gallucci barn. (2) DOCS HARMONY also had a couple of starts down south and she figures to be a big speed threat in this spot; using. (3) NECTAR is one of the best closers in this field and she should be passing rivals again to take a share. (6) SUNNY SICILY improved sharply last week and she can get a quick start then stick around to land in the Tri or Super.

Race 9: 5YO and Younger NW2 or $17,000 LT

(1) NEXT BIG THING had a decent 2021 opener from the 8-hole. Now he draws inside and this looks like an easier spot; top call. (4) SOUTHWIND SANDOR looks like the main threat coming off a solid effort and I'll use him in the late multi-race tickets. (8) RAISE YOU TWENTY is interesting racing off the claim and getting a driver switch; price look. (6) LOUS DELIGHT is still a maiden and I can only use him underneath facing winners here.

Race 10: NW $3,000 L5 or $7,000 L10

(1) BIT OF LUCK is more than capable at this level and his March 4 qualifier is a good indication that he's ready for a strong effort here; top call. (3) BUSH MAN N should get a much better trip here starting from an inside post. He figures to be a threat for a very hot barn. (6) LYONS MUSIC comes off a nice effort at Flamboro. He should be passing some of these late. Give him a price look for the exotics. (10) ISITFRIDAYYET failed vs. weaker as the 3-5 chalk at Flamboro. He's hard to like on top at this point. (4) SABINE PASS qualified well for this and he can sneak into the Super or High-5.
