Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Thursday 12/23

If you are in search of horse racing action on Thursday night, Woodbine Mohawk Park is the logical choice. As part of a 12-race card that gets underway at 7:00 PM, the track has a $489,248 carryover in the Jackpot Hi-5 with a mandatory payout in the final race and a $100,000 guaranteed Pick 5 in the opener. With just one other harness signal on Thursday evening, the pools should be welcoming for bettors of all levels.

As a side note, Woodbine Mohawk Park has a scheduling change due to the holidays. The track will be off Friday and Saturday this weekend and instead offer a Sunday 1 PM card. That 13-race program includes the Niagara Pacing Series final and a Preferred pace.

(9) BLACK BETTY sailed by her rivals with ease last week and a threepeat looms for this hot mare tonight. (6) P L ORCHID raced tough uncovered on the rim last week and she should be the main threat off that solid effort. (10) WINE TYME never gets bet and she is capable of taking another share tonight despite drawing widest; using underneath. (2) ANCHOR SO REEL should follow along near the front and take another share here.

Race 2: Pop Up Event 1st Leg

(2) TUCKERS OUT had a tightener since trotting a big first-over mile to win a Pop Up event two starts back and he should improve sharply tonight; top call. (3) LIFE IS A FEAST raced evenly vs. better here on Monday night and he should be a threat here; using. (5) HOLDIN ACES raced decently at 100 to 1 from the 10-hole last time and he should be in the hunt for a share starting from a better post tonight. (6) PROFOUND PARAGON raced better last time and she should be an exotics factor vs. these.

Race 3: Pop Up Event 1st Leg F&M

(3) CLODAM BAYAMA looks like a shrewd Auciello claim and she will likely dominate this leg of the Fillies and Mares Pop Up conditioned event. (7) CRANBERRY BRIE fits well here and I imagine she will be sent forward leaving the gate this week. She is the logical alternative to the choice. (4) SIGNIFICANCE is a solid 'B' track performer who can land in the money in this short field. (5) JMR MACH MEL attracts the leading driver and I can see her landing in the Super.

Race 4: Claiming $17,500 for NW $40,000 LT - Pick 4

(2) PARTYINTHESHADOWS was narrowly beaten by a rival that has come back to win pacing a huge parked out mile in the process. There could be some value here; top call. (7) ELROY SHINER's first-up trip didn't produce the desired result last week, so look for him to be pointed to the front tonight. He should be the one to catch. (10) YOURTHEONE figures to improve on the drop into claimers and Cullen should be sending him; using. (9) MIDNIGHT MOOD was beaten by a hot rival last week. He is another in with a shot in this competitive field.

Race 5: F&M NW $3,600 L4 or $7,000 L10

(6) WHISTYS PARADISE was airborne late last week she just ran out of racetrack. She is razor-sharp now and she gets top billing vs. these. (2) BETCHA BABY was right there with the choice after leaving from the 10-hole and she merits a look getting post relief tonight. (8) SUNDAY AFTERNOON was also part of that blanket finish and that was an improved effort for her. She isn't impossible in this spot. (5) DOCS HARMONY should be good for a small share in this field.

Race 6: Pop Up Event 1st Leg - Pick 5

(5) GP DREAMIN faces easier in this Pop Up race and Jamieson should put her into the race early; top call. (2) WESTFIFTYSECOND was a narrowly-beaten third in a Pop Up final three starts back and he gets the leading driver back tonight. He has the look of a contender here. (6) WICKENBURGH is a three-year-old with some ability, but he has missed more than a month now. I will tab him for next week. (3) SHES GOT PIZAZZ should be good for another slice, likely passing a few of these late.

Race 7: Claiming Pop Up Event F&M

This race probably plays out similar to last week's with (4) MARVELOUS KISS leading and (3) TWIN B BEACHDREAMS sitting in the pocket. I'll use both on multi-race tickets because the latter could improve and turn the tables. (8) DELIMAS would probably need a big speed duel to set the table for her and I don't see that happening here. She can close for another small share. (10) SPORTSDRINK could sneak into the Super at a price this week and I'll use her on the bottom.

Race 8: 4YO and Younger NW2 (F&M3) or $20,000 (F&M $30,000) LT

Tough race here. I'll give a slight nod to (5) EQUINOX ANNIE, who should appreciate the easier company tonight. (6) COLD RAGE got seated in a good spot early last week, then he jumped it off. He should be a threat tonight if he stays flat tonight. (10) ROSIES WAR BONDS is getting closer and he will likely lead all the way in one of these races soon; maybe tonight; using. (1) HANDSOME SEBASTIAN should be good for a small share as has become customary with him.

Race 9: F&M 4YO and Younger NW1 or $8,700 LT - Pick 4

(3) WINDY REPORT produced a nice late kick in his debut and off that good first effort he gets the nod tonight. (2) ADDICTIVEBEHAVIOUR held the choice safe as favorite and he is the one to beat as he seeks to repeat and draws well. (5) MEILLEUR FROMAGE raced decently for McNair last week and that driver sticks here. He has upset potential tonight. (4) WILDCAT STAR is a homebred that is worth a look for the exotics on debut.

Race 10: Pop Up Event F&M

(4) AMASA ARION paced a 55-flat back 1/2 in the recent Pop Up Event final to come close. This looks like a spot where McNair will blast and try to control the race from the outset or sit a pocket trip; top call. (1) MISS ROCKADALI is a threat in here because she could get away with an easy opening 1/2 on the lead; using. (6) SHES A SASSY BEACH is better than she has shown recently. I can see her taking a share vs. these. (2) CATCH AN ACE should be part of the exotics from her inside draw.

Race 11: F&M 4YO and Younger NW3 or $45,000

(5) BLONDE ONTHE BEACH showed some late interest last week when facing better and coming off a three-week break. She can beat these if she gets put into the race. (7) BEST KEEPSAKE almost beat NW4 here last week so she is a logical contender in this spot where she could lead throughout; using. (6) LADY AKILA tripped out to win at this level two starts back. She should be good for at least a share in here. (1) CHELSIS CHOICE should be closing late again to round out the Tri or Super.

Race 12: F&M NW $6,100 L5 or $15,000 L10 or NW $55,000 LT AE: Pop Up Starters - Mandatory High-5 Payout w/$489K carryover

This race seems to go through class-dropper (6) SWIFT ALLY, and she qualified well for this on 12/17. She will be my key horse on High-5 tickets. (3) WOODMERE SKYROLLER made a big third 1/4 move last week which is a sign of improvement and she should be in the mix again tonight. (1) NECTAR is a good one to use underneath as she typically flies late and passes horses in the stretch. (5) LADY ROCKNROLLA A draws better tonight and she should get position near the front early and stick around for a share. (12) TUGGINGONCREDIT makes her third start out of the Barrington barn and she is another that can come on late for a share.
