Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Sunday 11/1/26

Kevin Plowcha|Oct 30, 2026
Mohawk Logo

Top Pick Stats: 603/1930 (-$1,034.90)

Best Bets: 70/173 (-$53.20); Spot Plays: 36/176 (-$117.00)

Best Bet: GAINES HANOVER (Race 9)

Spot Play: CRYSTAL BALLER (Race 4)

Early Pick-5: 4,10/1,2/5,8/2,10/5 $3.20

Late Pick-5: 3,4/6,8/1,6/1/3,5,8 $4.80

Race 1: 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, WINNERS OF 3 (FM 4) BUT NOT MORE THAN 5 (FM 6) OR $80,000 (OS $115,000) LIFETIME.

(4) STORYBOOK LOVE, the near millionaire filly, drops significantly in class after competing against elite stakes company and looks like the horse to beat despite the quick turnaround. (10) CRUNCHINTHEODDS comes off consecutive runner-up finishes in Ontario Harvest competition and has the late speed to overcome the outside post. (1) SAPPHIRE STEVE draws decently and has already won at this conditioned level, making him dangerous with a favorable trip.

Race 2: FILLIES & MARES.

(2) DAFFY HANOVER enters with consecutive victories and has been very consistent against similar competition, making her the logical top selection. (1) TACTICAL STRIKE looks to avenge her loss to Daffy Hanover two starts ago. She can threaten from the inside if she reproduces that front-end performance. (4) KNGTSTLKRS GAMES needs to return to form, but even if she does, there are a couple salty mares that will give her trouble in a spot where she doesn’t need to win.

Race 3: HORSES & GELDINGS CLAIMING $8,000 FOR NW $5,000 LAST 4 STARTS. ALLOWANCES FOR AGE.

(8) CRUNCH HANOVER comes off a rallying victory at this level and looks capable of repeating with another well-timed move. (5) DR JOE finished a close second to Crunch Hanover last time and should be a major factor again with this draw. (9) ALWAYS B SWEETEST was competitive against the top two in his latest Mohawk appearance and offers a reasonable chance to hit the ticket.

Race 4: NW $6,000 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $12,000 LAST 8 STARTS. AE: OPT. CLM. $40,000. AE: NW $42,000 IN 2026.

(2) CRYSTAL BALLER has fooled me in the past but I’ll give him another try at a price. His last few outings measure up against this group if he can put it all together. (10) MASSTERCRAFT rallied to win in his second start back and appears to be rounding into form that we haven’t seen in a minute from him. (6) STABLE GENIUS finished third behind Masstercraft in his latest appearance and can work out a competitive trip from the middle of the gate.

Race 5: NW $6,000 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $12,000 LAST 8 STARTS. AE: OPT. CLM. $40,000. AE: NW $42,000 IN 2026.

(5) PENNTELLER HANOVER is the class of this field and likely trots away from them to finish the early Pick-5. (10) THE BEAR A CUDA finished a solid third last week and looks like a threat despite the outside draw. Still not sure where (3) PEMBERTON is at even though we’ve seen five starts since the qualifier. I don’t think he gets the quick pace from last week, but a third-over trip could tow him for a piece.

Race 6: CLAIMING HANDICAP $10,000 TO $12,000. ALLOWANCES FOR AGE & SEX. ENTER IN MULTIPLES OF $1,000.

(4) WICKED EXPRESS won two starts ago and followed with a competitive third against this level. I don’t mind trying him again with another likely speed try incoming. (3) MACH IMPACT has been holding his own against similar competition and should benefit from drawing inside several of his principal rivals. (8) FLYING ART A has displayed good early speed as of late and could prove difficult to catch if allowed to control the fractions.

Race 7: NW $9,000 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $18,000 LAST 8 STARTS. AE: OPT. CLM. $60,000. AE: N/A $3,205 P/S IN 2026.

(8) GRIFF finished third in a quick mile against tougher competition and should be a serious win contender with even modest class relief. (6) WHAT ABOUT ELMO has been racing competitively against higher-level trotters and owns the speed necessary to make an impact here. (3) ALL GAS NO BRAKES finished second to Masstercraft in his latest start after racing prominently throughout and looks capable of another strong effort.

Race 8: FILLIES & MARES CLAIMING $8,000. ALLOWANCES FOR AGE.

Didn’t want to settle on the favorite, so I’ll swing with (1) MISS SOPHIA ROSE who hasn’t been racing bad, but needs the right setup. A more logical choice is (6) HEAVENS LIL DRAGON who has the early speed to clear easily and control the race from start to finish. (4) ACEFORTYFOUR DAISY was well supported in her latest but didn’t have the same punch off the claim. We’ll see if she can step forward tonight for the new connections.

Race 9: NW $29,000 LAST 4 STARTS. AE: NW 11 RACES LIFETIME.

(1) GAINES HANOVER was a quality third in last week’s Open and has been holding his own against these types. I’m interested that he gets a new pilot this time around. (5) OSCEOLA finished second in a quick mile last time and looks like a serious threat with another favorable trip. (9) UNGAWA won two starts ago against strong competition and has enough speed to get into the early mix despite the outside post.

Race 10: CLAIMING HANDICAP $15,000 TO $18,000. ALLOWANCES FOR AGE & SEX. ENTER IN MULTIPLES OF $1,000.

(5) TITANIC HANOVER has been excellent in recent claiming appearances and should be prominent throughout given this post draw. The old version of (8) CODE CRACKER would dust this field. He’s feeling the effects of a long season against quality claiming pacers. We’ll see how aggressive they are from this outside draw. (3) RJS SUPERFREAK comes off a respectable third-place finish at Flamboro and should be a contender in a race where he’ll have plenty of trip options.

Race 11: NW $2,700 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $8,000 LAST 8 STARTS. AE: OPT. CLM. $25,000. AE: N/A $1,615 P/S IN 2025-2026.

(3) PERFETTO is third back now and finds a level that he should be much more competitive at. (8) PATRIARCH HANOVER comes off a solid third-place finish and appears well suited to this level with another competitive effort expected. (1) TOP MAST draws the rail and could benefit from an inside trip that leaves him knifing through horses late for a piece.
