Top Pick Stats: 244/705 (-$226.00) Best Bets: 30/64 ($7.00); Spot Plays: 13/64 (-$39.10) Best Bet: NO BETTER AIR (Race 2) Spot Play: DREAM FOR PEACE (Race 5) Early Pick-5: 9/6/7/3,4,9/2   $0.60 Late Pick-5: 3,7/5/5,6,7/7/8,9,10   $3.60 Race 1: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS FINAL: 2 YEAR OLD FILLIES. (9) BLUE JEAN GAL has been the clear class of this division, with all of her recent wins coming in wrapped up fashion. I can’t pick against her in this spot, despite the wide post draw. (5) BELLE BOUBOU sustained a nice outside move but could only manage third. Her versatility and staying power make her a natural exacta partner for the odds on favorite. (6) RARE LEGACY was able to convert off a pocket trip last week, and keeps leading driver James Macdonald. She should be involved in the early stages, and looms as a logical contender. [DRF HARNESS: Get Harness Eye PPs for this card] Race 2: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS FINAL: 2 YEAR OLD FILLIES. (6) NO BETTER AIR showed some big time speed at the end of last week’s mile, further cementing that she is better when racing off a helmet. I’m not sure what trip Trevor Henry wants to give her, but she should have plenty of options, and will provide a much better price than (3) ROMANTIC BEAUTY who cruised at the shortest of prices after pulling off an upset win two starts ago. J-Mac gets the call tonight and should get plenty of respect, but it has been all or nothing for her in the past, and there are other contenders in here. (2) P N G SHADOW tracked Romantic Beauty for the majority of last week’s mile and finished a strong second. She tends to sprint better when tracking a rival, and I think she can get a piece. Race 3: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS FINAL: 3 YEAR OLD FILLIES. (7) FOXY AMEE had every reason to lose last week in what was her first start in nearly a month, and a race that she didn’t have to win. She took care of business, though, and should be even tighter coming into the final. (3) MEDLEY SEELSTER gave the big favorite a run for her money in the stretch, but never appeared to be getting by. She has been solid in limited action this year and could be tracking from up close again. (2) LIL SWEET has the back class to produce a better effort, and she was just fine last week. I think she will add value to exotics with a driver who raced her well four starts ago. Race 4: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS FINAL: 3 YEAR OLD FILLIES. (4) SUGAR PIE HONEY made two moves from post nine in her latest and continued to sustain her bid all the way to the wire. She gets post relief tonight and should loom as a main contender. (9) ALL MY WISHES has been a top Grassroots filly all season, but has been unable to string wins together as of late. The post doesn’t help; What version will we get tonight? (3) MACAPELO SEELSTER was outsprinted in the stretch last week, but could easily turn that around if she gets another good trip. With the speed to her outside, a win may be a tough sell. Race 5: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS FINAL: 2 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS. (2) DREAM FOR PIECE pulled a slight upset last week and looked good doing so, storming down the center of the track and drawing away from rivals. He’ll likely be trying to track down the favorite, but I think that rival is vulnerable. (7) STONEBRIDGE MAC was given every chance last week, but could only manage second. I think he could be in line for another perfect trip if he is aggressively handled. (6) HOT COUNTRY is a vulnerable ML favorite in my opinion. He has been getting easy trips, and I think any amount of pressure could see him fold. I’ll take my shot against him. Race 6: NW $9,250 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $21,500 LAST 8 STARTS. AE: OPT. CLM. $50,000. AE: N/A $2,275 P/S IN 2024-2025. AE: NW 4 RACES LIFETIME. (7) PACINO HANOVER tends to shine when dropping to a level like this, and should get more of a chance than he did last week. He doesn’t need to find a live helmet to get involved, which adds to his potential. (3) HEAD HONCHO got back to himself in his latest, and it helped that the pace wasn’t nearly as wicked as it was two starts ago. Look for him to sit close and try to knife through late if he is good enough. (9) FORTIFY only has one choice if he wants to get in contention, no? He has been grinding into contention in his last few efforts, which I get, but the fastball from the far outside could be in play tonight. Race 7: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS FINAL: 2 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS. (5) MEGA MOVES looked completely out of contention at the top of the stretch, but when Roy tipped him off cover, he came forward in a big way and nearly swooped by at a double digit price. He gets yet another different driver tonight, but has raced well at this level no matter who is piloting. I’ll give him a slight nod. (8) ODDS ON BULLFROG has been as game as they come in his last three starts, but I hesitate with his favorite driver being away. I’ll trust McClure to get him in a good spot. (1) TWIN B JOHN B is rounding back into top form, and might have the best late kick of anyone in the field. He can get a piece and add value to exotics. Race 8: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS FINAL: 3 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS. (6) FLANAGAN SUNSHINE got a great drive from Hudon last week. He stayed out of traffic trouble on the front and held off all rivals to get the win. He draws a perfect post and gets my nod to repeat in the final. (7) NICKEL AND DIME got the jump on Flanagan Sunshine in his latest, which gave him three wins in a row. The versatile son of Resolve took last week off, and should be a main player. (5) PIERRE IN PARIS likely has the most talent of anyone in this group, but tends to get in his own way, as resulted by his 0-for-12 win record this season. He is an enigma. Race 9: OPEN. (7) NIJINSKY is the class of this field on his best day. He comes off two sharp qualifiers and makes his return tonight. I think it will be a winning one. (3) REMEMBER THE ALAMO was placed back to eighth after making a brief bobble and interfering when nearing the three-quarter pole. He raced fine behind the white hot Ervin Hanover, and was a solid winner two starts ago in the Preferred. (2) DUBLIN DASHER has strung together some decent efforts at the top level, and can easily get a piece again if he sits close. He was a solid second behind Remember The Alamo two starts ago. Race 10: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS FINAL: 3 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS. (10) OUT OF ICE has been the best at this level, and I think he holds nothing back tonight. A delayed quarter move could be in the cards since he likely won’t be the quickest off the car. I think he finds a way to hold off everyone. (9) SOS SPORTS BET is one of his main rivals on paper, and he draws just as poorly. His early speed is no secret, which could see him on the lead before a potential quarter move pockets him up. (8) LYONS FRANKY J was a sharp winner last week after escaping from the pylons. He drew away from rivals late, and is a horse I expect to get involved, especially with all of the early speed signed on. [DRF HARNESS: Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter] Race 11: NW $6,500 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $15,750 LAST 8 STARTS. (8) COLD CREEK QUESO gets a drop in class tonight, which could set him up for an aggressive steer. He has been pacing miles that would beat these, but needs to be given a chance. I’ll take a shot that tonight is the night. (3) JACK PANIC is the logical use after a second tier try where he paced home in sub-:27 fashion. He should shine at this level. (4) TROSA A comes off a pair of sharp qualifiers against some classy horses. He had been facing tougher rivals before his break. He deserves to be used on tickets.
