Race 1: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS 3YO COLTS & GELDINGS **GTD $75,000 Pick 5**
(7) CENTURY GRIZZLY has been sharp in both starts the year and he should be primed for a big try here in this first Grassroots race of the season; top call. (3) THE WILD CARD chased a top sophomore prospect home in a good effort last time and he projects to get a good trip racing near the front; using. (10) TRUFFLE DOG is risky because of his gait issues but he is capable if he stays flat and he should be a good price here. He's the third one that I'll use in this Pick 5. (2) SUNDOWN KID was much better in his second start and he is a good one to use underneath in this spot.
Race 2: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS 3YO COLTS & GELDINGS
(4) SUNSHINE LIST was only two lengths behind tougher in a race where he was simply too far back early. Expect a more aggressive steer this time. (2) WINDSUN AZAR is sure to get plenty of play based on his 53 2/5 back 1/2 in his debut and he should be the main threat. (7) LOUS DELIGHT looks improved and he should be considered for Tri and Super bets. (3) PLAY THE PONIES comes off a good try at Georgian Downs but these are tougher; using on the bottom.
Race 3: NW $22,000 L5 or $30,000 L10 or NW $145,000 LT AE: OPT CLM $30,000
(8) TRACEUR HANOVER's late burst was just a bit too late last week, but once he gets good he tends to stay sharp for a while. He can win this if he gets better position early. (6) EAST END got the jump on the choice, then hung tough late. He is a repeat prospect here. (5) HERVEY HANOVER's seasonal debut against the hot Tattoo Artist was quite good and he may go off as an overlay here; using. (2) FOOT SOLDIER can be more dangerous here if he finds a helmet to follow; another possibility in a contentious race.
Race 4: FILLIES AND MARES PREFERRED HANDICAP - Pick 4
Invader (6) TREACHEROUS REIGN holds a class advantage on this group and she should beat these if she is tight enough. (9) SO MUCH MORE was at the mercy of a slow pace last week but she can win virtually any time the pace is honest and her price climbs now so she's on my tickets. (5) SYLPH HANOVER figures to get a good trip racing near the front and she is a factor for the exotics here. (4) SLY ELEANOR N tried hard racing first up last week and she can do better here if she finds some live cover.
Race 5: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS 3YO COLTS & GELDINGS
(1) ST LADS BEAT IT was only a length behind some good colts last week and he should offer some value here; price play. (5) LOTTERY WINNER tuned up for this chasing the hot Splash Brother in New Jersey and although he may get over bet, he has a good chance here. (7) CHOIR MASTER is obviously much-improved this year and he should be a threat here. (8) BETTER TAKE IT is another who has turned things around that merits a look in a contentious Grassroots dash.
Race 6: 5YO and Younger NW3 or $60,000 LT - Pick 5
(6) BEAUMOND HANOVER had an impossible trip last week after starting from the second tier and getting well behind early. Leaving from the best post here, I expect him to bounce back. (5) MAYHEM HANOVER took a check in the Breeders Crown last year and he looks ready to roll, but if the choice brings his best race I'm not sure he can beat him. (7) A POSITIVE HANOVER finished ahead of the choice last week and he is worth a look for the Tri here. (4) ANETO tries hard every week and he can pass a few of these and round out the Tri or Super.
Race 7: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS 3YO COLTS & GELDINGS
(8) BEYOND BETTER was 2nd to one of the best sophomore pacing colts seen so far here this summer in an eventful mile. He should be very tough against Grassroots rivals. (5) WEST COACH BEACH paced his back 1/2 in 53 2/5 in his local debut. He's worth a look for this Exacta. (7) GRAND AVE LEGEND was right there in a good performance last week and he again should be a factor for the exotics. (9) CAPTIVATE HANOVER is capable of better but the outermost post likely limits him to a small share here.
Race 8: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS 3YO COLTS & GELDINGS - Pick 4
(10) YS MATHIS sticks out in Grassroots company and I would think Roy will have him moving early this time; top call. (7) DOUBLEAGENTMAN is improving rapidly and it wouldn't shock me if Henry sent him hard leaving the gate this time; using. (6) BEE TWO BEE gets a good post and Filion and he should use his good gate speed to get position then stick around for a share. (3) WILSONS VINNER is capable of passing some of these late and he is worth a price look for the exotics.
Race 9: PREFERRED
(2) EVENWOOD SONOFAGUN likely won't get a 55 opening 1/2 to exploit on the lead here, but I can see him letting the dust settle with outside leavers sprinting early then taking control in the second 1/4 on route to another win. (8) SPORTS COLUMN is hot and he always gets overlooked it seems. I'll use him again tonight. (5) WHEELS ON FIRE closed into a quick closing 1/4 last time and he is one who could capitalize if the early pace is hot here. (9) CASIMIR RICHIE P is sharp but from out there I'll use him underneath only.
Race 10: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS 3YO COLTS & GELDINGS
(8) POSEIDON SEELSTER had two useful tighteners now it's 'go' time. Expect early McNair aggression here. (5) BETTORBUCKLEUP's race last week while out the route was excellent and he looms the main danger.(6) BETTOR AT HIGHTIDE was right there with two nice colts last week and he should be a factor for the Tri and Super again. (3) COLD CREEK CABO's debut wasn't terrible. He may sneak onto the Tri ticket at a price here.
Race 11: NW $16,000 L5 or $26,000 L10 or NW $120,000 LT AE: OPT CLM $45,000
(1) TREMENDOUS PLAY wasn't far behind against tougher last week and he may get the pace setup that he craves here. The barn has won with just about everything they have sent out so far, why not him too? (2) PRETTY HANDSOME comes off a solid effort where he finished just ahead of the choice; using. (5) POINTOMYGRANSON was kept hidden behind the winner until very late and the ambush nearing the wire almost worked. He figures again vs. these and he’s on my late Pick 4 and Pick 5 tickets. (6) ALWAYS A HOTSHOT also comes off a solid effort and is in with a decent chance in a contentious dash that will likely be decided by trip. (3) CLIFFHANGER escapes the red hot Tattoo Artist and he should improve enough to make it on to the High-5 ticket.
