Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Saturday 6/25

Garnet Barnsdale|Jun 23, 2022
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Meet Stats: 304 - 978 / $1,632.80 (-$323.20)

Best Bets: 50 - 93 / $169.30 (-$20.70)

Spot Plays: 28 - 93 / $182.00 (-$4.00)

Best Bet: BETTER BE DONNA N (6TH)

Spot Play: IMSHORTANDSWEET N (1ST)

Early Pick 5: 4,5,6/2,7/6,8/1,2,7/3,4 = $14.40

Late Pick 5: 6/5,6,9/3,8/2,6/1,4,5 = $7.20

Early Pick 4: 1,2,7/3,4/6/5,6,9 = $18

Late Pick 4: 5,6,9/3,8/2,6/1,4,5 = $36

Race 1: F&M NW $11,500 L5 or NW $20,000 L10 or NW $105,000 LT AE: Starters for a purse of $15,000 or less L4 **Guaranteed $100,000 Pick 5**

(4) IMSHORTANDSWEET N gets class relief here and she beat better than these in May. I'll give her the nod to take down hot (6) CONTROL THE THONG, who is unbeaten and faster since the Auciello claim two starts back. (5) DREAM DANCING, stablemate to the choice, had clear sailing up the pylons in the lane last week but fell just short. She should be in the exotics mix tonight. (8) EMMY LOU HAYES just missed in a fast race and her current form is solid. She is in with an upset chance tonight.

Race 2: 5YO and Younger NW5 or $50,000 LT AE: 4YO to be claimed for $40,000

(2) GREATEST ENDING couldn't have won any easier here on 5/21, then he got sick and missed the Somebeachsomewhere stakes. His June 21st qualifying performance indicates he is good to go again and he gets top billing here. (7) CHUCKY HANOVER was only five lengths behind eventual NA Cup winner in the Somebeachsomewhere and he is an obvious threat although the three weeks missed is concerning. (1) TWIN B HEART THROB gets good drives from Whelan most weeks and he is usually in position to get a good piece of the purse when they turn for home; using underneath. (8) SPORT SECRET has a similar profile as Chucky Hanover and I wonder if he will sit and rally from his wide post after missing three weeks.

Race 3: NW $20,000 L5 or $30,000 L10 or NW $120,000 LT

(6) WHEELS ON FIRE was the first leader in the Gold Cup but soon came under onslaught as the favorites took turns on the front end. McNair sticks with him over (8) AMERICAN HISTORY, who comes off a 1:49-flat win last week. I’ll side with the former and use both in the Pick 5. (7) EAST END continues to race tough every week. He should be in the exotics mix again. (5) POSEIDON SEELSTER is another that blasted off the gate in the Gold Cup. I think he sits and rallies for a share tonight.

Race 4: NW $4,300 L5 or $10,500 L10 or NW1 in 2022 or starters for a purse of $9K or less L4 AE: Pop-Up starters - Pick 4

(2) REAGAN BLUE CHIP re-moved to the front on the last turn and he looked gone then he appeared to falter late in the strong wind. He should be tough in here under normal weather conditions. (7) THATLL BE SPORTY is hot and this isn't much of a move up. He is the other one for multi-race tickets. (1) HES SWIFT raced okay in a tough field last week. He has an outside shot leaving from the inside tonight. (10) NO FREE LUNCH takes a big class drop but he draws widest and he has missed three weeks. I am inclined to try to beat him at an underlaid price.

Race 5: 5YO and Younger NW3 or $40,000 LT AE: 4YO to be claimed for $25,000

(4) ST LADS STERLING closed like he was shot out of a rocket launcher two starts back then got hammered off that line and converted impressively. He is sharp as a tack and he gets the call to repeat. (3) ACAPULCO SUNBURN was no match for the choice last week but he had missed a month between starts. Returning to a 7-day cycle gives him a chance here. (9) GREYSTONE IAN O raced decently in the Spring series here and I can see him closing for a slice vs. these. (6) NOCH TEN uses his good gate speed to get position and take frequent shares and he should be in the exotics mix here.

Race 6: F&M NW $5,450 L5 or $12,000 L10 AE: OPT CLM $25,000 - Pick 5

This is a big drop for (6) BETTER BE DONNA N, and it would be no surprise to see her dominate these on the front end; top call. (3) KICKIN COWGIRL's typical stalking style should play well here and she can be an Exacta factor. (2) COWGIRL LILLY rallied along the pylons to take a brief stretch lead last week then she was outpaced late. She figures for a share here. (4) MAJOR LEAGUE N will blast as always and she should stick around for a slice at this level.

Race 7: NW $10,500 L5 or $22,450 L8 - Pick 4

(5) THE GREEK FREAK was full value for an impressive win from the 10-hole last Saturday and this isn't a big jump up in class; call to repeat. (9) SINTRA couldn't go with the choice late in the mile but he has licence to be sharper tonight making his third start since missing a month. You know he will offer a better price if you are sticking with him tonight. (6) WIND BLOWN gets Jamieson back and he drops. Two starts back they teamed up for a sub-1:50 score. He should be in the mix tonight. (2) REAL WILLEY will likely sit a trip and land a small share tonight.

Race 8: NW $2,000 L3 or NW1 in L10

(2) NICKLE BAG drops to the bottom and picks up Jamieson tonight. He should wake up in this spot. (8) LYONS IMAGE goes from Voyer to McNair in the bike which should produce sharp improvement; using. (4) DAY DELIGHT paced two sub-56 halves last week and could do no better than fifth. I can see him landing in the Tri this time. (9) ARUKIDINME CABBIE found his best form racing at these lower levels and he should be in the exotics mix again.

Race 9: NW $16,800 L5 or $25,000 L10 or NW6 or $90,000 LT AE: Starters for a purse of $16,000 or less in 1 of L4

Red-hot (2) MACHO PHIL looked tremendous passing them all in a flash in the lane last week and although he faces tougher here, I'll call him to notch the threepeat. (6) CENTURY HEINEKEN was game but he couldn't get past an unyielding leader. I think McNair sends him on a speed mission tonight; using. (7) MAPPOS LION consistently paces sub-1:50 miles every week and he is in the exotics mix here. (5) ROCKME ROLLME should get position near the front leaving the gate again and ride a trip to a spot in the Super.

Race 10: Horses that raced for a purse of $15,000 or less in 1 of L3

(5) LETS GET PICKLED got stuck behind a stopper that insisted on being in front of him last week and he lost all chance. Jamieson gets in the bike tonight and he has teamed this gelding to three wins in the past; call to upset. (4) YACHT SEELSTER closed well off excess cover and he gets a better post and a shorter field this time. He should be right there tonight. (1) STONEBRIDGE REX is in easier here and he should be looking to control the race on the front end. He is another in with a decent chance. (2) SAULSBROOK VICTOR's potent late kick should land him another share here. (7) SHADOW IN RED brings good form from the Pop-Up series but this is tougher; using underneath.
