(9) REDWOOD HANOVER finished last in his first effort in two months, but showed plenty of speed, and it ended up setting up as a perfect prep type effort for tonight. He got the nod from James Macdonald over three other rivals and can overcome the outside draw. (7) GEM QUALITY looked extremely strong last week when winning off the drop in class. He is likely to be forwardly placed no matter who drives and looms as a major threat. (1) ORDER ONE TO GO was stick handled through traffic late to finish second in an impressive effort. These types are extremely fast and could give him another setup and tow him into contention for a slice. (8) D A LOVE BOAT rebounded in a major way in his latest, but this is a tough test against some classy horses. If he continues to improve, he could be a player against these types. I’ll slide him underneath for now. [DRF HARNESS: Get Harness Eye PPs for this card] Race 2: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GRASSROOTS LEG 2. 3 YEAR OLD PACING COLTS & GELDINGS. STARTING FEE $400 CDN ($300 USD). (3) SILVERWALLS showed his win two back was no fluke, as he posted an extremely impressive win on NA Cup night. He is extremely sharp right now and can make it three wins in a row. (8) TWIN B FRESH BET followed cover when going to the half, but was never able to clear to the lead. He battled for the entire length of the stretch and was a near miss fourth. If he is put in play from the outside, I think he should race well. (5) BRUNO NO NO NO didn’t look particularly strong when pacing in the lane, but he can be forgiven due to post and just how far back he was. He can be closer tonight and hit the board. (6) OUT OF ICE was another who was trying to close from farther back, but couldn’t make up the necessary ground. He can close for a share. [DRF BETS: Wager on tonight's Mohawk Park card at 1/ST BET PRO!] Race 3: POP UP SERIES: HORSES & GELDINGS NW $30,000 IN 2025 (MIN 10 STARTS). AE: STARTERS FOR A PURSE OF $12,000 OR LESS IN LAST START. LEG 1. (2) COLD CREEK QUESO takes a significant drop in class into this Pop Up Series. He has just two wins over the last two racing seasons, but this is a perfect spot to pounce. (1) SAUBLE ACE returned to the races, after six months off, with a blowout win at Kawartha. He gets the nod from Bob McClure who drove him a fair number of times last season. If he steps forward off that effort, he should entertain as a major player. (5) ROCHESTER FLASH continued his sharp form with a strong second place finish from post nine in his latest. He races off the claim tonight for the Kyle Fellows barn and can continue his sharp form. (9) LARCENY has shown plenty of versatility when on his game, but the post makes his chances tough tonight. He can pick up a share. Race 4: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GRASSROOTS LEG 2. 3 YEAR OLD PACING COLTS & GELDINGS. STARTING FEE $400 CDN ($300 USD). (2) READYFORPRIMETIME was unleashed from the far outside in his latest and eventually kicked away to an easy win. He should only get stronger with more experience and can repeat. (4) ROLLEX missed the board for the first time in his career in his latest. That came because of a bad draw at Georgian Downs. Besides that, he has been extremely consistent, and can finish best of the rest if the #2 is as advertised. (6) HP BELLISSIMO took plenty of support in his latest, but couldn’t make the closing trip work. If he gets better position off the car, he can make some noise and hit the board. (8) LATE FOR COFFEE will likely be working from towards the back, but moves well enough to where he can pick up the pieces late and get a share. Race 5: 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 3 RACES OR $50,000 (OS $62,500) LIFETIME. (10) ALLSTAR MANIAC was excellent in his return qualifier, and could be ready to roll on first asking this year given that Macdonald chose him over three others. He has the speed to overcome the outside draw. (1) AQUINAS HANOVER feels like a horse you can’t ever give up on, because he’s just one setup away from producing a big, winning effort. He drops from stakes assignments and adds Lasix. He can be in contention. (4) SMILING DANCER took advantage of the hot pace in his latest and closed for a share. He has some tactical speed that can be used to put him in a good spot, which can allow him to hit the board tonight. (8) FOUR BY FOUR has come up with some big efforts in the past. I can see a trip similar to last week’s and him closing for a share. Race 6: POP UP SERIES: HORSES & GELDINGS NW $30,000 IN 2025 (MIN 10 STARTS). AE: STARTERS FOR A PURSE OF $12,000 OR LESS IN LAST START. LEG 1. (7) LAMBORGHINI LOU has had zero chance in his last two because of how the races have set up, and the competition he faced. He gets a sizable drop into this Pop Up Series. It’s likely that he gets put in play tonight and looks to work out one of his patented mid pack trips to paydirt. (2) ROCKS SHINING STAR can be the speed of the speed if J-Mac wants, but sustaining it around the big Mohawk oval is the question. If he can, he lines up as a major player. (1) PREMIER FIRST STAR is a horse that likes to grind his way into contention. He got the nod from Jody Jamieson tonight and can hit the board. (5) WRY has been better in his last two, but needs to find his form at Mohawk again. Borth could fix that with a speed try. I’ll throw him in underneath this week. Race 7: POP UP SERIES: HORSES & GELDINGS NW $30,000 IN 2025 (MIN 10 STARTS). AE: STARTERS FOR A PURSE OF $12,000 OR LESS IN LAST START. LEG 1. (2) ITS MAJOR MAJOR A ships in from Australia and is likely to take a lot of betting support. He races for strong connections and could be anything here. I’ll go his way. (4) STONE CARVER was an upset winner two back and held his own against tougher foes last week. He is sharp right now and can grind out a major piece once again. (6) SERIOUSLY HANOVER should be considered as an early pace presence. If he brings his A-Game, he can definitely hit the board here tonight. (3) GRANITE BEACH comes off a down the road score at Georgian. His strategy is no secret as of late if you look at his lines. He can hold on for a share. Race 8: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GOLD LEG 2: 3 YEAR OLD PACING FILLIES. STARTING FEE $900 CDN ($675 USD). (3) CHANTILLY was unfortunately scratched out of the Fan Hanover Final due to sickness, but it doesn’t appear to be anything major as she is right back in the entry box this week. She will look to keep her undefeated record intact against a group of fillies she has beaten more than a few times now. (2) WICKEDPACE led through a wicked first half tempo before tiring to fourth. She has frequently been looked at as one of the top fillies in this division behind Chantilly, and I can see it playing out exactly like that tonight. (7) PERFECTLY CHIC has frequently shown strong speed late in her miles, which can allow her to pass some horses and hit the board tonight. (5) WICKED N SINGLE made a good account of herself two back at the Gold level when she closed a ton of ground to finish fourth. She can hit the ticket again tonight. Race 9: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GRASSROOTS LEG 2. 3 YEAR OLD PACING COLTS & GELDINGS. STARTING FEE $400 CDN ($300 USD). (7) FIFTH AND FIVE should appreciate the major drop from top level stakes company. He has consistently shown strong speed on the front and back of his miles, which makes him a logical threat in any race, let alone this one. (2) SOS SPORTS BET was awesome in his latest, eventually clearing to the lead and battling to finish third. McNair gets the call again and can steer him to another strong finish. (3) GRIN AND WIN could benefit the most if the pace gets hot. He has enough tactical speed to where he could sit just off the dueling leaders and pounce late. (5) TIME PASSER has been steady and solid this season. He was placed the winner in his latest, which was against Grassroots foes. He can pick up a share tonight. [DRF HARNESS: Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter] Race 10: PREFERRED. (4) ERVIN HANOVER was first over in the Gold Cup and ended up helping stablemate Brue Hanover win that race by boxing in Nijinsky. To his credit, he fought gamely and held on for a piece. I expect McNair to be all systems go tonight. (7) SOARING NOW grinded out a win in last week’s Open, and doesn’t need the lead to be effective. He can pick up a major piece at this level once again. (1) CENTURY KOMODO was flying late behind Soaring Now, but couldn’t quite catch that rival. He is another that could capitalize if the leaders press too hard. (5) BLUE HUNT was guns blazing in his latest, but couldn’t hold on when it mattered most. There could be a change in tactics tonight with the other speed signed on. He can pick up a share. Race 11: POP UP SERIES: HORSES & GELDINGS NW $30,000 IN 2025 (MIN 10 STARTS). AE: STARTERS FOR A PURSE OF $12,000 OR LESS IN LAST START. LEG 1. (2) TRICKY MCWICKY was the beaten favorite in his latest, but returns to the big track where he was last a winner, and gets Doug McNair back in the bike. There are a lot of positives going in his direction tonight, and I’ll side with him on top at a square number. (10) ARTIES IDEAL has been sharp this year, and most recently comes off a front stepping win at Grand River. The post is tough, but he has the speed to overcome it. (5) WOODMERE FENN has a class excuse in his latest. He should find this group much more to his liking and can earn a big piece if he puts forward a similar effort from 6/2. (1) SOMETIME SOMEWHERE can definitely take a step forward in his third start back, but I didn’t love that he was the beaten favorite last time. I’ll slot him underneath this week. (3) DOCSPHILLYCHEESE got a confidence boosting win at Dresden in his latest and picks up James Macdonald tonight. He can work a trip to get him on the edge of the Hi-5 ticket.
