Race 1: NW $1,000 L5 or $22,000 L10 AE: OPT CLM $30,000 **GTD $75,000 Pick 5**
So many possibilities in an extremely contentious race to kick off this Pick 5. I'll side with (2) YACHT SEELSTER who might capitalize on some quick early fractions. (4) MAJOR HILL is another who could trip out in this spot for a barn that has been sending them ready this week; using. The shape of this race will play out depending on both of either of (9) ELLIS PARK and (8) NIRVANA SEELSTER, two classy veterans who both can fly off the gate. I'm adding both to this Pick 5 in a race where it seems many different results are possible.
Race 2: Starters for $25,000 Claiming or Less in one of Last 5 Starts
(6) OCEANVIEW MAGNUM chased some quick fractions when facing tougher last week and he projects to get an easier trip vs. these; top call. (1) LONE WOLF TERROR was good in the spring and the 8-horse field really helps his chances as he often gets mired in traffic in bigger fields. (8) SIN CITY BOOGIE is in an easier class here, but the post draw did him no favors; consider for the Tri and Super. (5) P L IDAHO is a horse that frequently takes action, but he often finishes on the fringes; using underneath.
Race 3: NW6 (F&M7) or $70,000 (F&M $87,500)
(6) ZIG ZAG took plenty of action, but he had no shot from where he was sitting at the 3/4 pole. He closed well regardless and his barn has been lighting it up. He gets the nod here. (1) H P ROYAL THEO is one that driver Roy said he expects to do big things this year. This initial start vs. older isn’t one that is critical in the grand scheme. I wouldn't take a short price. (4) BUCKEYE STARLET had a decent start over the track, and she can come on late for a share again. (3) WESTFIFTYSECOND qualified okay for this. Consider for then bottom of Tris and Supers.
Race 4: NW $16,500 L5 or $26,000 L10 or Starters for $45K Clm or Less one of Last Two Starts – Pick 4
(4) ALWAYS A HOTSHOT was intent on controlling the pace last week, but he was no match for the sharp Sports Column on the final turn. He should be sharper now and he gets my nod. (2) SWEET N FAST N starts with his nose on the gate this week and he should be closer early; using. (8) ROCKME ROLLME was game in defeat, passed late only by a rival that swept past the field with a big rush. He too is a contender. (9) TRACEUR HANOVER is obviously capable at this level and he goes for a very hot barn but post 9 is going to likely make things difficult for him; using on the bottom.
Race 5: NW $22,000 L5 or $30,000 L10 or NW $140,000 LT AE: OPT CLM $55,000
(2) SPORTS COLUMN faces tougher here, but the way he won last week suggests he might be up to it; top call. (4) AMERICAN VIRGIN looked like he needed that start last week. Expect a more aggressive try here. (7) EAST END probably needed one and at this level he is likely to get better position early in the mile; another possibility. (9) FOOT SOLDIER unleashed an impressive furious late rush to beat easier last week but from post 9 a smaller share is likely vs. these as he seeks a 4th straight win.
Race 6: NW $11,000 L5 or $22,000 L10 AE: OPT CLM $30,000 – Pick 5
(2) SORTIE is capable of popping at this level if he minds his manners. I'll take a price swing with him in a race with no standouts. (6) KAMERAN HANOVER was decent last week and he figures to be a threat here again, (7) TREASURED TEE is capable at this level and his price should be good on the class rise; upset chance. (1) MAJOR MUSCLE should sit a good trip and hang around for a share.
Race 7: PREFERRED
(9) CENTURY FARROH was airborne at the wire last week, but the dominant winner was long gone. He gets top call here with that rival not in this race. (2) WHEELS ON FIRE couldn’t go with that winner late in the mile but he should be better this week and he is expected to be a big threat here. (4) MATTICULOUS GB was a sharp winner one level lower and he could get a good trip racing near the front here; using. (1) ROCKIN IN HEAVEN raced well last week and he is likely to offer a big price on the class rise; consider using on the bottom.
Race 8: 5YO and Younger NW3 or $50,000 LT - Pick 4
(3) BUSH MAN N was game but picked off by a sharp rival who rode his helmet the entire mile last week. With minimal improvement he can take his first North American win here. (2) DENALI SEELSTER was in a tough spot first up last week in the same race as the choice. If he can land the pocket early, he may upset. (5) SPORTS OBSESSION wasn't far behind the top two and he can take a slice here. (6) EXAMINER HANOVER goes for a barn that sends them ready, but this is no easy spot for a sophomore.
Race 9: NW8 or $110,000 LT
(5) GROOVY JOE changed course in the lane last week more times than Sully before landing in the Hudson. He gets top call here. (1) HIGHLANDBEACHLOVER looks ready to rip off a fast mile in his first trip over Mohawk Park and both he and his stablemate (3) MUSCLE MACH A are two that are obvious threats here. (4) MILITARY SECRET is likely to revert to a closing style here and he can come on late to take a share.
Race 10: 5YO and Younger NW 5 or $85,000 LT
(1) BEACH BLANKET BOOK came ready last week and while he got a perfect trip, I won't penalize him for following the odds-on favorite. He could also get a similar trip here; slight nod. (2) BETTOR B GOING took plenty of money, but he was too far back. He was flying late, and he rates highly in this field. (6) NIGHT STICK is hard to fault but his price drops here, and he may not get his own way this time; your call. (4) PRICELESS BEACH can be closer here with a better trip; use on the bottom.
Race 11 – NW $6,000 L5 or $16,000 L10
Assuming he stays flat this week, this is a perfect spot for (3) IDEAL JET to blast and last. (5) NICKLE BAG stayed on determinedly last week and Hudon has a knack for keeping him live to the wire no matter what trip he gets; using. (1) BETTER MOONON OVER goes for a trainer that has been sending them out ready and he could upset with the right trip. (10) BRODYS SCRAPPER should be tighter for this and he fits well in this class. Give him a look for this High 5. (2) FREDDY BEAR made two moves last week in a decent effort. An easier trip lands him a share here.
