Top Pick Stats: 216/621 = -$52.40 Best Bets: 15/58 = –$12.20; Spot Plays: 17/58 = +$4.60 Best Bet:  CAPTAIN FEAR NOT (RACE 1) Spot Play: CAPTAIN LUKE (RACE 4) Early Pick 5: 7/7/1,5,7/1/2,4,5 = $1.80 Middle Pick 5: 2,6,7/1,2,6/6/9/6 = $1.80 Late Pick 5: 9/6/2,4/4,9/2,5,9 = $2.40 Race 1: WINNERS OF 3 BUT NOT MORE THAN 5 RACES OR $80,000 (OS $100,000) LIFETIME. (7) CAPTAIN FEAR NOT is coming off a 4th place effort at Flamboro in the Juravinski final. He tipped three wide off stalling cover in the teeth of some very quick panels and was unable to pick up a position. He will return to the big track where he was able to put forth a pair of sneaky good efforts. He should be handled confidently in this spot and is one I’ll side with to kick off this card. (10) CAPTAIN QUARTERS will make his 4YO debut this evening off a lone qualifying prep where he was 5th. Driver James MacDonald angled out this son of Captaintreacherous late in the stretch in that prep and he was moving okay. He has the talent to take down this field this evening, but I wouldn’t say he’s a slam dunk, especially from the outermost post. (2) WARRAWEEFORLAURA was a solid 3rd in his latest behind a pair of rivals who are a step above him. It was the first time in 5 starts he hit the board this evening, and he can continue to build off this effort. He can hit the ticket here. (4) BLUE BAR exits a 5th place effort in a Gold last time out. He draws well, but is taking on tougher company this evening. [DRF HARNESS: Get Harness Eye PPs for this card] Race 2:  SOMEBEACHSOMEWHERE. (GRADE 3). STARTING FEE: $1,000 CDN. $775 USD. (7) PRINCE HAL HANOVER was an impressive winner in his PaSS event at Pocono Downs in his most recent, where he drew away and won under wraps for the Hall of Famer, Dave Miller. He draws outside in this field of seven, but he will likely be aggressively handled in this spot, and he’ll be tough to bet if he replicates a similar effort. (4) AMERICAN SON will be making his 2nd start of 2025, but is coming off a pair of qualifying efforts gearing up for this evening. He was 3rd in his sophomore debut on 5/3, and was a comfortable winner in his latest prep. He draws well and merits a lot of respect, and he should have every chance to work out a trip behind the choice, but he’ll have to find a little more. (5) AYE AYE CAPTAIN DEO is a perfect 3-3 this season, in what’s been a strong start to his sophomore campaign. He is coming off an impressive, multiple move score in his latest and he should be primed for a good effort here. This will be the toughest group he takes on to date. (6) MADDEN OAKS ships in off a winning try at Tioga Downs in an overnight. This is the first time he’s taking on stakes company, but has shown speed early and is one that could close for a share. Race 3: PREFERRED. (1) SOARING NOW is coming off a big mile, in a winning effort that was clock in a career-best, 1:47.4. He worked out a pocket trip behind a pace setter that was setting some scoring panels and he was able to convert off that effort, while fending off another threatening rival in the process. It was his first start for new trainer Victor Puddy and he is sitting on another good effort here. (7) TAURASI failed to hit the board and didn’t appear ready to be part of a mile that kind of mile in his latest. He will be reacquainted with Doug McNair this evening, who guided him to a score two back; contender. (5) WRITE ME A ROSE rounded out the superfecta behind a trio of very talented aged pacers in his latest. He draws well this evening and should have every opportunity to secure a piece. (2) ODDS ON CAPITALISM failed to hit the board in his most recent start, but has hit the board in 8 of 12 tries this year. He draws inside, picks up Dexter Dunn and can hit the ticket. Race 4: GRADUATE SERIES: 4 YEAR OLD OPEN . LEG 1. (1) CAPTAIN LUKE was a non-factor in the Juravisnki final, after getting away towards the back from an outside draw. He is back on the big track this evening, which should be more to his liking, and is one that I’ll side with in the opening leg of the Graduate series. (2) HOWLENTHEHILLS is coming off a 2nd place effort in the Juravinski final. He was leading for most of the mile before being overtaken by the pocket sitter, and I’d expect him to be aggressively handled in this spot as well. (5) CHAIN GANG appeared to have difficulty getting around a half-mile track in his Juravinski tries at Flamboro. He should appreciate being back on the big track and he should be poised for securing a big piece; draws well. (6) HUNTINGFORCHROME will make his first start of 2025 and is coming off a pair of qualifiers. He draws well and will pick up James MacDonald, who has guided him to a victory last season. Race 5: FILLIES & MARES, 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 2 RACES OR $30,000 (OS $37,500) LIFETIME. (2) ALWAYS DAWN was a strong 2nd in her 3YO debut behind a rival who cruised to victory. She flashed some good, late speed in that contest and looks to be sitting on an even better effort this evening. She loses James MacDonald to another rival, but picks up Bob McClure, who picks up a live steer this evening. (5) FOREVERAFTERALL was a first-over winner in her latest. She has been no worse than 2nd in four starts this year and seems to have taken a step early on as a sophomore; contender (4) ALL MY WISHES has raced well in two starts this year and is perfect thus far. She takes on what appears to be a deeper group but she has the confidence to be competitive. She loses the services of James Macdonald to the one above, but picks up Dexter Dunn, which will provide some intrigue. (8) DUCHESS DEO notched her first victory of the season in her second start. She should have every opportunity to grab a share this evening. Race 6: GRADUATE SERIES: 4 YEAR OLD OPEN . LEG 1. (6) AMAZING CATCH will make his 2025 debut here and is coming off a pair of qualifying efforts at The Meadowlands ahead of it. He was a game winner in his most recent prep, when he gamely fought off a rival who looked to be going by. He was driven by Ake Svanstedt in those qualifiers, and will pick up Dexter Dunn, who drove this trotter for the bulk of his 3YO campaign. I’ll give him top billing here. (7) PRIVATE ACCESS is coming off a trio of qualifiers here at Mohawk Park as he gears up for his 4YO debut. He was a winner in his last two preps and inherited improved positions in each of them, as a result of the pace setter jumping it off in those tries. He should be primed for a good effort for a barn who sends them ready for stakes events. (3) WARRAWEE MICHELLE is coming off a 2nd place qualifying effort at The Meadowlands as she gears up for her aged campaign. She hooks mixed company here but is talented enough to grab a share. (4) DATE NIGHT HANOVER was just fair in her long lone qualifying prep ahead of this evening’s tilt. Trainer Marcus Melander is known for having just one prep to gear up for a start, so you have to figure this mare is tight enough to put forth a good effort, but she’ll need to work out a trip to pick up a big piece here. Race 7:  NW $17,000 LAST 5 STARTS. AE: OPT. CLM. $70,000. (2) CODENAME CIGAR BOX nearly picked off the choice in his latest, in what was a strong, 2nd-place effort. He worked out a second-over trip in that contest and lost lengths on his rivals at the top of the lane. He was moving well late and should be tough to fend off late. (1) TYGA HANOVER was shuffled along the cones in his latest try, but shook loose late to be a strong 4th. He will more than likely look to be pushing out from the pole position this evening, and has the ability to grab a big piece, so long as he can work out a favourable trip here. (6) DRAGONONTHEBEACH was 4th over turning for home and was able to grab the show spot thanks to some good wheels late. He draws the winningest post here, and is capable of a strong showing here. (3) WHICHWAYTOTHEBEACH was one of two notable class droppers in his latest try, but was starting from the outside in that contest. He left out and secured a good spot early but was completely empty in that effort. He can bounce back and grab a share. Race 8: SOMEBEACHSOMEWHERE. (6) LITE UP THE WORLD has been perfect through two starts this year, and has looked ultra-impressive in each of those efforts. This will be his toughest task to date, but he’s shown off those two efforts that he’s the one to beat in this spot, and gets top billing. (8) TH KAY C CRUNCH is coming off a 3rd place effort in a PaSS event at Harrah’s Philly, finishing behind a pair of colts who have been very strong early on this year. He was a runner up to the choice in his sophomore debut and is one that will likely serve as his biggest threat. (7) PAPIS PISTOL will be making his 3YO debut off a trio of qualifiers. He should be tight enough as far as fitness is concerned having that many preps, but this is not an easy spot to be making your season debut. He can hit the ticket. (3) BOURBON COUNTY took back to last in his sophomore debut and finished nicely up the inside to round out the superfecta. He should be sharper off that effort and an inside draw, but this group is tougher. He can hit the ticket. Race 9: FILLIES & MARES, 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 3 RACES OR $60,000 (OS $78,500) LIFETIME. (9) GENTRIFY followed up a strong 3rd place effort in her seasonal debut with an easy, wrapped up score. She worked out a nice 2nd over trip but tipped three-wide at the top of the lane and took off. She has to start from an outside draw, but if she can float out and grab a good spot off the gate, she will be tough to fend off. (5) AU JUS HANOVER was a nice 2nd to the choice, in what was an improved effort from her start prior. She draws the center of the gate and can get a good spot early, and is capable of a very good showing here; contender. (8) CHARLOTTE STATION failed to hit the board in her most recent. She draws outside and should show improvement having a start under her belt at this level. (1) ABSOLUTION was coming off a nice win two starts back, but then returned to racing action three weeks later. She drew pp10 and was never involved in a 7th place effort. She didn’t look super comfortably halfway down the lane, but is one that should be tighter being back on a regular rotation, and is one to keep an eye on late. Race 10:  GRADUATE SERIES: 4 YEAR OLD OPEN . LEG 1. (6) NIJINSKY was a distant 2nd to a dominant rival who has been perfect since competing in Canada this year. It was his first start of 2025 and it’s likely what he needed ahead of this opening leg of the Graduate; top call. (1) FUNTIME BAYAMA will make his first pari-mutuel start since capturing the Canadian Sired Graduate Series Final on 5/3. He is coming into this effort off a strong, qualifying score at The Meadowlands, and will serve as the biggest threat to the one above. (7) REMEMBER THE ALAMO will be coming into this effort off a 2nd place qualifying effort at The Meadowlands, where he was picked off late by the one above. He has 4 wins in 8 tries this year and has been racing well, but he is likely up against it vs. this group. He’s good enough to grab a share. (2) CALICOJACK HANOVER is coming off back-to-back wins, including a score in the Jurvanski final. He draws inside and can stick around to round out the superfecta. Race 11: CLAIMING $50,000. (2) LARRY KARR returns to Ontario where he’s had success. He scored in a lifetime best, 1:47.4 over this oval a year ago, and is coming off a pair of strong qualifying efforts in preparation for this start. He will look to bottom out this group and should prove tough to catch. (4) MAJOR FERNCO N has won 3 out of his last 4 tries and has been involved in some good miles in the process. He might be able to work out a pocket trip behind the choice, and could prove to be dangerous as a result. (6) ORDER ONE TO GO was 3rd in his latest and has hit the board in three straight tries. He does his best work late in miles and there should be plenty of speed to chase here; he can hit the ticket. (3) WINMEBAK will be making his first start of 2025, after making just one start in 2024. He is coming off a trio of qualifiers where he was 2nd in each of those efforts, including a 2nd place effort to the choice in his most recent. He might need a start to get acclimated despite a trio of preps but should have every chance to hit the ticket. [DRF HARNESS: Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter] Race 12: 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 2 RACES OR $30,000 (OS $37,500) LIFETIME. (4) ARSON SEELSTER is coming off a 4th place effort at Mohawk Park after shipping in from Rideau Carelton off a three-race win-streak. He left out aggressively in that effort and was stuck behind a rival who began to gap, forcing him to lose ground in that contest. He shook lose to round out the super and was gaining in that effort. He should be better with a start under his belt and is one I’ll side with in this spot. (9) FUBAR BUNDY shipped in from out west to take on Gold company and finished a respectable 4th. He paced home well late in the mile, especially considering it was his first start in 3 weeks. He starts outside but should be handy enough to get away in a good spot off the gate, and this is the one to beat this evening. (1) REIGNING CAPTAIN was guided by Louis-Philippe Roy to a gate to wire score in his latest, after rolling to the lead early on. He faces similar company here this evening, and will have to navigate from the pole position. He merits respect but I’ll look to side against him here. (5) BRUNO NO NO NO failed to hit the board in his first start of 2025. He can hit the ticket here. Race 13: NW $9,000 LAST 5 STARTS OR NW $21,650 LAST 10 STARTS. (9) COLD CREEK QUESO was aggressively handled in his latest at a big number, but was a non-factor in that effort. He worked out a pocket trip to the eventual winner and was unable to keep up. I would’ve liked to see more from him off that effort but he takes a big enough drop here where he should be able to regain some confidence. I’ll give him top billing. (5) LIVINTHEBEACHLIFE delivered as the even money favorite, after scoring in gate-to-wire fashion. He drew outside and was still pointed forward off the wings in that effort, and I’d expect the same with a middle of the gate draw here. (2) LEGION SEELSTER was moving well late in the mile to round out the super. He draws inside and should prove to be competitive here. (8) STORMALONG shook loose late in the mile and paced home well to be 5th. He can grab a bigger share here with a more favorable trip and is one I’ll use underneath. (7) UNCLE SHANK A was 5th at this level last time out. He can round out the Hi 5. { "@context": "https://schema.org", "@type": "NewsArticle", "headline": "Woodbine Mohawk Park analysis for Saturday 5/31", "alternativeHeadline": "Top harness picks for Saturday night’s Mohawk Park card", "datePublished": "2025-05-30", "dateModified": "2025-05-30", "author": { "@type": "Person", "name": "Melissa Keith" }, "publisher": { "@type": "Organization", "name": "Daily Racing Form", "logo": { "@type": "ImageObject", "url": "https://www.drf.com/sites/all/themes/drf/logo.png", "width": 600, "height": 60 } }, "description": "Race previews, analysis, and betting angles for Saturday night racing at Woodbine Mohawk Park.", "mainEntityOfPage": { "@type": "WebPage", "@id": "https://www.drf.com/news/woodbine-mohawk-park-analysis-saturday-531" } }
