Top Pick Stats: 177 - 576 / $867.20 (-$284.80) Best Bets: 30 - 54 / $92.20 (-$15.90) Spot Plays: 8 - 53 / $35.10 (-$71.90) Best Bet: TAURASI (9TH) Spot Play: ALL BETS ON TEX (11TH) Early Pick 5: 2,3,7,9/3/3,6,8/4,8,10/3,9 = $14.40 Late Pick 5: 6/1,2/2,3,8/7/1,3,6,7 = $4.80 Early Pick 4: 4,8,10/3,9/6/1,2 = $2.40 Late Pick 4: 7/1,3,6,7/1,6,7/5,7,9 = $7.20 Race 1: NW $20,000 LT **Gtd. $100,000 Pick 5** (2) WHY WOULDNT YA won early at two (in his second start in 1:53 2/5) and he faced some of the best colts in the country in subsequent starts. I think he will get ignored at the windows in this sophomore debut and I’ll take a price stab on him to kick off the Pick 5. (7) LAMBORGHINI LOU was game in defeat, and he continues to bring it every week. He is another value possibility because he gets bet less when Mackenzie drives. (9) BRINGITONHOMETOME improved in each of his last two starts culminating in last week’s win and Macdonald sticks with him over others. He would be no surprise here. (3) TIMELY BET was an easy winner last week, but I doubt he can steal a 59 3/5 middle half in this field. I’d demand a price here. [DRF HARNESS: Get Harness Eye PPs for this card] Race 2: FILLIES and MARES PREFERRED (3) TELLS ON A ROLL’s only defeat in her last six starts came in open company to a horse that has now won eight Preferreds in a row at this track. She is again the one to beat. (1) SO MUCH MORE was better last time, but she couldn’t get to the choice. She could do here if she lands in the pocket leaving. (2) STYLE FOR A MILE is racing well but she is a cut below the top two. She likely rounds out another Tri here. (4) GIAS SURREAL looks as good as any to complete the Super. Race 3: NW $20,000 L5 AE: OPT CLM $90,000 or NW1 in 2024 or 4YO (6) UNCLE SHANK A raced tough first-over last week pressing fast splits and he was picked off by a deep closer that took advantage of the slowing late pace. I’ll stick with him here at a better price. (8) COMMAND had a good sophomore season racing in the shadow of his sensational stablemate Confederate last year. He has since changed hands and his April 15th qualifier signals readiness; using. (3) RON flew home again last week, and he will get the trip he needs one of these weeks, maybe tonight. (4) SERIOUSLY HANOVER will likely be part of the exotics on the class drop here. [DRF BETS: Wager on tonight's Mohawk Park card at DRF Bets.com!] Race 4: F&M NW $8,000 L5 or NW $16,800 L10 AE: OPT CLM $50,000 or NW7 or $70,000 LT - Pick 4 (10) SHES GOT IT ALL drops to a logical spot, and she draws widest which should keep her price viable; top call. (4) ETHEL was pointed to the front leaving the gate for the first time in her career last week and the result was an astounding runaway 1:51-flat win. I’m not sure she has another one of those in her, but we know she doesn’t need the lead to win. (8) CARSONS GOUDA’s comeback race was decent and Macdonald sticks with her from a slightly better post; price look for the multis. (3) IRIS SEELSTER is around the money frequently at this level and she should be in the exotics mix again racing from close range. Race 5: NW $8,850 L5 AE: N/A $1,885 P/S in 2023/24 (9) HIGHLANDBEACHSBEST went a big trip to just miss at this level last week and he gets top billing here. (3) UHTRED had a start back and he will likely get more aggressive now. He is the other one that I’ll use on multi-race tickets. (6) CODE CRACKER drops, and he will likely get more aggressive, but I prefer to use him underneath here. (4) LEGION SEELSTER will probably pass a few of these late again and land in the bottom of the Tri or Super. Race 6: CANADIAN SIRED GRADUATE SERIES PACE: CANADIAN SIRED 4 YEAR OLDS 2nd Leg - Pick 5 (6) WRITE ME A ROSE has been lights out in his past two starts and he beat all of these as the 1 to 9 chalk last week. A threepeat looms. (1) NO CONTROL was a good 2nd in the choice’s last win, and he will likely complete another chalky Exacta here. (5) WHATCHULOOKIN AT tried it first up as the choice was backing down the third 1/4 and that was never going to work. I see him improving enough to finish in the money tonight. (3) SPEAKER OF PEACE will probably take another following trip and land a small share. Race 7: 5YO and younger winners of 2 but not more than 4 or $49,500 LT AE: 4YO NW $2,200 L5 (2) ALWAYS A THRILL was a strong winner in his first start back and he can be even sharper now; call to repeat, (1) RICARDOSHILYSHALLY drops after racing first up vs. tougher. He is worth using at a price in a Pick 5 that more than likely gets started with a winning 1 to 5 shot in Race 6. (3) KAPTAIN KARLOS looks good on paper coming out of a fast race where he just missed but he is winless this year and has taken 9 slices in 13 tries. What price will you accept? (9) ODDS ON KICKOFF provided the cover for the choice in a decent effort; price look for the bottom of the exotics. Race 8: NW $14,000 L5 AE: N/A $2,525 P/S in 2023/24 Last week, (3) WHEELS ON FIRE was sent to the front for the first time since he returned to the races, and he showed big early speed which can be a sign that he is coming up to his best form soon. I’ll give him a slight nod here. (8) MR IBIZA N paced a 53-flat back 1/2 two starts back with Macdonald driving. He can win here with the right trip. (2) BAYFIELD BEACH produced a big effort to beat easier last week. He is in with an upset chance here. (1) HIGHLANDBEACHLOVER is in solid form, and he can close for another small share in this spot. Race 9: PREFERRED HANDICAP Posts #1-#6 drawn, Post 7 assigned - Pick 4 There should be a prop bet for what week (7) TAURASI will get beat in this class. It might not happen until some open pacers ship north from the U.S. and that’s probably still a few weeks off. I thought (2) JABBERWOCKY was really good last week, but he provided perfect cover to the winner. He can complete the Exacta here if he secures the pocket early, which I believe he will. (6) EMMETTS BUDDY was perfectly tripped out by Borth to take his comeback race last week, but things get tougher here for him facing Taurasi. I see him closing for a smaller share. (3) WHICHWAYTOTHEBEACH will likely sit a trip racing close to the front and stay for a share. Race 10: F&M NW $14,000 L5 AE: NW $110,000 LT (3) ANGOSTURA HANOVER was interfered with at the 1/8th pole last week when a rival came out and put a wheel into her left hind leg and she still persisted to lose by only a head. She can win tonight with a clean trip. (6) SETTN A PRECEDENT was the rival that caused the interference, and she closed well to just miss. She figures to be right there again. (7) SHOOT THE WHISKEY couldn’t see it through on the lead last week. She will likely look for an easier trip here and she is another in with a shot. (1) SAULSBROOK OLYMPIA wasn’t far behind the top two choices last week. She can close for another share here. [DRF HARNESS: Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter] Race 11: Winners of 4 but not more than 7 or $80,000 LT (6) ALL BETS ON TEX paced a 26 3/5 third 1/4 racing first up last week, but the final 1/4 was also paced in 26 3/5, so it’s not surprising that he couldn’t sustain his bid. That was a solid effort, and he gets the nod here. (1) SOUTHWIND SAMBUCCA just took a new life’s mark when beating easier and a repeat of that effort puts him right there with these; using. (7) LARCENY was motoring at the wire last week, but it was too late. He could do here with the right trip and Macdonald may get more aggressive with him. (3) NAZARE sat a good following trip last week and he beat the choice. He is another that is in the mix in a small but competitive field. Race 12: NW $5,560 L5 AE: N/A $1,465 P/S in 2023/24 (9) LETS TIE ONE ON drops and he will likely get an aggressive steer from Cullen in this spot; top call. (5) ACTOR HANOVER raced well in defeat, passed late by a tripped out, fresh rival. A repeat of that effort puts him right there with these. (7) CONTROL THE POWER will probably get pointed to the front leaving the gate again and I can see him getting a great trip here; using. (8) HESINCONTROL is the other dropper in the field, but he typically does his best work when McNair drives and he is driving the #7 horse here. You should get a square price if you like him. (1) TORONTO is in good form, and he should take another share starting from the inside tonight.
