Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Saturday 4/15

Garnet Barnsdale|Apr 13, 2023
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Top Pick Stats: 160 - 478 / $873.60 (-$82.40)

Best Bets: 27 - 43 / $108.50 (+$22.50)

Spot Plays: 9 - 43 / $59.60 (-$26.40)

Best Bet: SO MUCH MORE (1ST)

Spot Play: DOC HOUSTON (8TH)

Early Pick 5: 3/1,2,4,6/1,2,4/2,9/4,5,7,9 = $14.40

Late Pick 5: 4,6/2,3,4/2,6,9/1,2,3/7,9,10 = $32.40

Early Pick 4: 2,9/4,5,7,9/4,6/2,3,4 = $9.60

Late Pick 4: 7,9,10/4,5,6,7/8/4,5,7 = $7.20

Race 1: FILLIES and MARES FREE FOR ALL **Gtd. $100,000 Pick 5**

(3) SO MUCH MORE is back in with mares where she is always the one to beat, enough said. (6) NEED TO BREATHE was less than a length behind the choice two starts back and she probably completes a chalky Exacta tonight. (4) LOCK BRIDGE had no choice but to pop pocket on the last turn to get around the tiring leader and that move left her rope for the picking in the stretch. She can sit a trip and take a share tonight. (5) THEREALPRINCESS' local debut was decent, and she was a victim of a slow pace, but she showed some grit getting up for a good share. This is a tougher spot, but she is in the exotics mix.

Race 2: 5YO and Younger NW1 or $7,500 LT

(4) NORTHERN CARDINAL was buried in the pocket with no room for the entire stretch drive last week. This gelding should have a big shot here racing on the lead or in the pocket. (2) IKES DREAM raced well in the Spring series, and he is the obvious threat in a spot where he will likely fire a big shot in this third lifetime start. (6) DAY TRADER showed some promise last year in his three starts that were all won by the same rival. He is fast enough for these and hard to toss. (8) LAZ raced okay on debut, but he might get a similarly tough trip starting from a wide post. I'll use him on the bottom.

Race 3: ONTARIO SIRED GRADUATE SERIES PACE for Ont. Sired 4YO 1st Leg

(1) MAGICAL ARTHUR stayed in last week and he lacked room for the entire stretch drive. His price goes up now and he should be plenty sharp for this third start back; call to upset. (4) CAMARA MOMENT, hard used in the New Holland final, faces many comebackers here, some of which will be raced conservatively. He could get a good pace trip on the engine and that makes him dangerous. (2) COLD CREEK QUESO's best race puts him right there with these and he is another to consider for the early Pick 5. (3) KOLBY TWO STEP shows a nice kicker in preparation for this 2023 debut, and he should be in the exotics mix.

Race 4: NW $9,250 L5 or NW6LT AE: Starters for a purse of $15K or less L3 AE: OPT CLM $45,000 - Pick 4

(2) I AMA ROCKET has really lived up to his name in his three winning efforts since the Barrington claim and he is the one to knock off her as he shoots for the fourpeat. (9) MATAI LOUIS N needed to pace a 1:51 mile to win at the lowest condition level in his local debut but he was up to it, and he should be a threat here despite rising in class. (6) WOODMERE FENN continues to race well, and he should close for another slice here. (1) ST LADS CASH will probably look for a trip racing near the front tonight and he can land in the exotics.

Race 5: 5YO and Younger winners of 2 but not more than 4 or $45,000 LT AE: 4YO and 5YO to be claimed for $50,000

(4) BETTER SUNSET had pace in the lane last week, but he got shut off completely and finished behind a wall of horses. He gets the nod here with a better trip expected. (5) SOUTHSIDE EDDY gets a barn change tonight which can lead to a form reversal; using. (9) HUNTED HOUSE is in the mix every week and Macdonald chose him over (7) CONTROL THE POWER who he won with last week. Both of these are sharp and are possibilities for early multi-race tickets.

Race 6: PREFERRED 2 - Pick 5

(4) LETS TIE ONE ON takes a big jump up here but he looked good lowering his lifetime mark last week and he should offer a good price tonight; top call. (6) ROLL WITH THE FLOW beat similar two starts back and he is an obvious threat starting from the best post tonight. (8) POINTS NORTH is another dropper that should improve in this spot, but I'd demand a price from this post. (7) SOMETIME SOMEWHERE should be closer at this level. I see him closing for a slice.

Race 7: 5YO and Younger NW $16,500 LT

(3) GENTLEONMYMIND was a solid 2nd behind a strong winner last week and he gets the nod vs. these. (2) PROFUNDO was closing on the choice last week, but he is often out of position. He is possible here, but I'd demand a price. (4) BEACH TOUR has been a monster at London, and he is hard to toss vs. this group. (5) CONTROL THE SMILE is another that was 2nd to a tough winner that is in with a shot in a race with a few possibilities.

Race 8: 5YO and Younger NW2 or $30,000 LT AE: NW $1,000 L5

(6) DOC HOUSTON showed something last week, holding off the backfield after getting hooked in a protracted duel and not allowed to clear on the backstretch. I’ll give this improving gelding the call to repeat. (9) CALL ME IT paced a sub-54 back 1/2 in a race he needed after missing some time and he is worth using at what should be a good price tonight. (2) REDWOOD HANOVER was Grand Circuit-placed at two, so he surely has some stakes in his sights this summer. He is good enough to beat these but winning a NW2 race early isn't a necessity for this colt. Your call on a potential underlay. (8) BROOKDALE MIKI looks sharp for this return race, and he should be in the exotics mix.

Race 9: FREE FOR ALL

(3) MOMAS SON BYRNE showed how sharp he was by reversing his typical tactics and wiring the field one class lower than this last week. I'll stick with him expecting him to stalk and pounce at a price tonight. (2) SAULSBROOK VICTOR might have slowed it down too much in the third 1/4 last week as his pocketed rival was loaded late and got up. He is still sharp and obviously dangerous. (1) WHEELS ON FIRE never misses the board and he will be close to the front again tonight. He is hard to toss. (5) NAUTICAL HANOVER likely takes another slice in this spot.

Race 10: NW $9,250 L5 or NW6LT AE: Starters for a purse of $15K or less L3 AE: OPT CLM $45,000 - Pick 4

(9) JK VICTORY was decent last week but a razor-sharp rival blitzed the field in the lane. I'll stick with him here. (10) LAST BEACH raced tough in defeat from this post, and he is in the mix right back. (7) CODENAME CIGAR BOX comes off a sharp won and he isn’t out of place at all vs. these. His best race puts him right there. (8) FLYINGEVENBETTOR N is always around the money it seems. His good gate speed puts him in the mix to take a share here.

Race 11: F&M NW $16,750 L5 or NW8 LT

(5) SHOOT THE WHISKEY goes for Team Cullen for the first time here coming off a strong sophomore season racing in the west and she looks ready to fire a big shot; top call. (6) MS QUICK SAND is razor-sharp and she is the one to beat as she shoots for the threepeat. (4) JKS ROLLIN BABY figures to improve on the drop but I prefer to use her underneath. (7) WESTERN WISH is another dropper that should contend for a share.

Race 12: NW $16,800 L5 or $100,000 LT

(8) WARRAWEE VITAL drops for this third start back and Henry should be looking to send him down the road at this lower level. If he makes front early, this race could be over. (1) EMMETTS BUDDY flew from the back last week, and he is sharp and dangerous. He should be able to lay closer early in this mile; Exacta factor. (4) PIPEWRENCH CHARLIE was right there the last two times he raced at this level, and he should get a good share tonight. (2) CADILLAC BAYAMA should go better starting from an inside post. He can land in the bottom of the exotics.

Race 13: 5YO and Younger Claiming $35,000

(4) THE LEGEND HANOVER takes a big class jump here but he comes off a crushing win at Flamboro Downs racing off the Waxman claim that featured a big final 1/4. He may go to the front here and lead all the way. (5) JJ TOMMY made several moves to win at this level last week and he is the one to fear shooting for a fourpeat here. (7) PICK A GENRE has been finishing fast and he could get a setup here. He is another to consider for the late Pick 4. (3) DRAGON ENERGY races best with Henry in the bike but he couldn’t catch JJ Tommy last week. He is in with a shot, but he needs a trip. (2) TANGO SEELSTER figures to close for another share and he should be part of the High-5.
