Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Saturday 1/7

Garnet Barnsdale|Jan 05, 2023
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Final 2022 Stats: 691 - 2063 / $3,540.20 (-$585.50)

Best Bets: 106 - 195 / $354.10 (-$35.90)

Spot Plays: 47 - 197 / $313.30 (-$80.70)

Best Bet: AMERICAN HISTORY (6TH)

Spot Play: EMMETTS BUDDY (4TH)

Early Pick 5: 2,6/1,3,4/2,4/3,5/1,4,9 = $14.40

Late Pick 5: 6/5,8,9/1,2,6/2,5/2,3,8 = $10.80

Early Pick 4: 3,5/1,4,9/6/5,8,9 = $3.60

Late Pick 4: 1,2,6/2,5/2,3,8/1,6,8 = $10.80

Race 1: NW $12,000 L5 or NW $30,000 L10 or NW $100,000 LT AE: OPT CLM $65,000 or starters for a purse of $15K or less L4 **Gtd. $100,000 Pick 5**

(6) STONEBRIDGE REX tried to close on 1 to 5 class dropping chalk Codename Cigar Box last week and he got up for a good share. Getting McNair and drawing best now, he should be aggressive leaving the gate; top call. (2) FABRIZIO N sat the trip and edged the choice and he figures to be the main threat here racing from close range again. (5) REAL WILLEY is another that figures to be forwardly placed and he can take another slice here. (4) SEA LAIRD was relentless last week and got up right on the wire. He is sharp but these are tougher; small share predicted.

Race 2: Popup series 2nd Leg

(4) BEACHIN LINDY got the trip in leg 1 but he is razor-sharp and capable of making his own luck if required; call to repeat. (3) LOVEMYROCKINBIRD won the third 1/4 battle but lost the war. He will likely be a live overlay tonight. (1) HUNTER HILL was the winner of the other division and he did it easily. He would be no surprise here. (7) ARUKIDINME CABBIE can close for another slice in this spot.

Race 3: NW $27,500 L5 or NW $185,000 LT AE: OPT CLM $80,000

(4) SAILBOAT HANOVER raced well last week considering he had missed more than a month. He figures to be sharper here and he gets top billing. (2) NO FREE LUNCH drops and Macdonald sticks with him over the choice. He should be the main threat. (3) DESPERATE MAN edged the choice but he was never a threat to catch the leader. I'll play to beat him here as a probable underlay. (6) CODENAME CIGAR BOX was never losing on the class drop last week but he faces some tougher foes now; using on the bottom.

Race 4: 5YO and Younger winners of 2 - Pick 4

(3) EMMETTS BUDDY looked loaded following excess cover as they approached the 3/4 pole last week and when Roy showed him racetrack in the lane it was a formality that he was going to sail by the leaders. He gets the call to repeat off that sharp win. (5) CAMARA MOMENT responded to an aggressive steer to take the Valedictory final. He should be the main danger to the choice. (7) SPORTS FAN is right there every week and he figures to close for another slice. (6) WHAMMER JAMMER is another in good form that should be in the exotics mix.

Race 5: F&M NW $12,000 L5 or $26,000 L10 or NW6 LT AE: Starters for a purse of $15,000 or less L4 or OPT CLM $60,000

(1) LOCK BRIDGE was rolling when they hit the wire last week but it was too late. Perhaps an expected fast track helps here; top call. (9) WESTERN WISH showed speed both early and late to take the win in that race and she is sharp and dangerous. (4) SETTN A PRECEDENT looked good winning at a price at this level two starts back and she can be a threat here in a race with several viable options. (5) SNOW SHARK got the job done as expected as the big chalk now she steps back up; small share predicted tonight.

Race 6: NW $12,000 L5 or $30,000 L10 or NW $100,000 LT AE: OPT CLM $65,000 or starters for a purse of $15,000 L4 - Pick 5

(6) AMERICAN HISTORY drops and gets McNair and he should be looking to go right down the road tonight; top call. (4) ROCKME ROLLME is usually right there at this level and Jones will put him into the race at some point; using. (3) ARMOR SEELSTER showed sharp improvement in his second start back. He can take a slice here. (1) LEGION SEELSTER should improve enough on the drop to this level to take a slice here.

Race 7: NW $7,200 L5 or $14,000 L10 AE: OPT CLM $45,000

(5) HUGHIE JUNIOR N finds a good spot shipping north from Yonkers and he gets the leading driver; top call. (9) HIGHLANDBEACHLOVER, stablemate to the choice, raced tough in defeat and he should be a threat right back here. (8) SECOND BRUISER won as expected on the class drop and he should be in the exotics mix in this spot despite facing tougher. (1) BEYOND BETTER likely closes for another small slice.

Race 8: Popup 2nd Leg - Pick 4

(6) ALTA ENGEN A tried it first up last week and it didn't work out. In a field that seems devoid of gate speed, I think Macdonald tries to send him right down the road tonight. (2) DR JOE looked good rolling past the leaders with a big late kick and the short field helps him. He is capable of repeating; using. (1) CLEVER CHARACTER raced well first up in the top class at London on Tuesday night. He should be in the mix here. (5) MAJOR ACE should get another good trip racing close to the lead and land in the Tri or Super.

Race 9: PREFERRED

(5) SAULSBROOK VICTOR made his own good trip by blasting to the front last week. He couldn't be any sharper and Sorrie is a good partner for him. I'll ride him while he's hot. (2) SO MUCH MORE is always the one to beat no matter who she faces on this circuit. (4) WOODMERE STEALDEAL is right there every week it seems and he should be in the Tri. (1) SOMETIME SOMEWHERE is red-hot but this is a big jump up; small share predicted.

Race 10: Popup 2nd Leg

87-time winner (8) NATIONAL DEBT is the class of this field and he should get the job done if Roy can get him in striking range by the 3/4 pole. (3) I AMA ROCKET, 2nd to a strong winner in the opening leg, should be the main threat here. (2) JET ROCK managed 3rd racing with broken equipment and he should be in the mix vs. these tonight. (6) ST LADS CASH gets Macdonald for the first time which is reason enough to give him a look.

Race 11: 5YO and Younger winners of 2 but not more than 5 or $45,000 LT AE: 5YO to be claimed for $50,000

Tough race to end the late Pick 4. I can see (1) LAST BEACH getting a setup and doubling up tonight. (8) HOWIES MAN was bet like he couldn't lose on 12/17, he converted, now he moves into Moreau’s barn; using. (6) PETIPOU tries hard every week and he is another that could get a good trip and rally late; using. (3) JK MIKI MANTLE should sit a trip racing near the front and he should be part of the Super. (7) BACKSTREET GAMBLER is in top form but this is tougher; small share predicted.
