Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Saturday 1/17

Kevin Plowcha|Jan 15, 2026
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Top Pick Stats: 26/87 (-$40.20)

Best Bets: 3/7 (-$1.70); Spot Plays: 2/8 (-$1.20)

Best Bet: JORDY N (Race 7)

Spot Play: ERINWOOD BIG MACK (Race 5)

Early Pick-5: 7,8/4/1,3,6/6,7/3 $2.40

Late Pick-5: 1,5,6/3/4/7/1 $0.60

Race 1: FILLIES & MARES, NW $7,400 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $12,000 LAST 8 STARTS (W/O $18,900 LAST 8 STARTS N/E) AE: OPT. CLM. $30,000. AE: N/A $375 P/S LAST 4 STARTS.

(7) WESTERN WISH got a perfect trip last week and a needed confidence boosting win. I give her the nod to repeat. (8) UTOPIA BLUE CHIP has the back class and a sharp mark last season, but will need to show a bit more in the early stages to work out a trip. (3) SUPERIOR DELIGHT pulled off the upset last week with a trip that she knows all too well. Her gate speed should put her in a stalking spot.

Race 2: SNOWSHOE PACING SERIES: 3 & 4 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS IN 2026. NW OF 2 RACES OR $30,000 LIFETIME AS OF OCTOBER 31ST, 2025. LEG 1.

(4) BOOKER SEELSTER nearly stole the win up the inside after leaving out from post ten and being shuffled. The improved post should allow him to stay out of trouble. (1) COLD CREEK PANTERA is a solid horse at this level and one who can pop up with a win every now and then. He picks up the leading driver tonight. (7) THE TULSA KING shows more speed than most of these on paper, and could use some gate speed to get himself into a stalking spot.

Race 3: FILLIES & MARES, NW $10,800 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $24,800 LAST 8 STARTS. AE: OPT. CLM. $50,000.

(3) LYONS BETTORDAY could change tactics tonight on the drop in class. She has been way too far back in recent weeks. J-Mac gave her the nod over two others. (6) BETTERNOTMACHME doesn’t stack up against these on paper, but her gate speed could get her in a stalking position, and allow her to stick around at a big price. (1) STYLE FOR A MILE should be tighter tonight after racing from off the pace in a race that provided a cheap middle half. She has back class, but hasn’t won in a minute.

Race 4: 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 1 RACE (WINNERS FOR A PURSE OF $9,000 OR LESS 2 RACES) OR $9,000 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES.

(7) RUN TO THE HILLS has been slowly but surely getting back to form, and was a solid winner in his latest morning prep. He was one of many Bulldog Hanover progeny to flash sharp speed last season. (6) CAPTAINS LEGACY nearly completed a big upset when saving every inch of ground. Some horses had trouble getting around the track, which allowed him to pass many rivals. A similar trip is likely in store. (2) AMERICAN ROAD TRIP came out of the same qualifier as Run To The Hills last week and is another returnee who flashed speed at two. The connections should have him ready.

Race 5: 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 2 RACES OR $30,000 (OS $42,500) LIFETIME.

(3) ERINWOOD BIG MACK was one of a few horses who benefitted from a wicked pace being set up front. He just got picked off in the final few strides, but raced well again. (5) TWIN B ALLIANCE comes out of that same race, which followed a runaway win as the favorite. He has been sharp since returning. (6) PARLAY KING drops in class after taking part in the Valedictory Final. He has been getting checks as of late.

Race 6: SNOWSHOE PACING SERIES: 3 & 4 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS IN 2026. NW OF 2 RACES OR $30,000 LIFETIME AS OF OCTOBER 31ST, 2025. LEG 1.

(1) RBSTENACIOUS T is in much better form than these on paper, and should find a trip in a shorter field. The race opens up underneath. (6) CALYPSO CREEK set that ridiculous first half pace last week and obviously faded. He has the gate speed to get himself into a stalking spot. (5) CORONA SEELSTER flashed solid speed at the Grassroots level last season, but is coming off a lengthy break. He may need a few starts to get back to form.

Race 7: NW $6,100 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $13,000 LAST 8 STARTS (W/O $21,500 LAST 8 STARTS N/E). AE: $1,660 P/S IN 2025-26.

(3) JORDY N should take plenty of money after his debut where he was three wide for the entire back half. I expect him to step forward. (6) WHY WOULDNT YA was a sharp second after sitting close. He had to make an early move to make sure he didn’t get shuffled. McNair can get early speed out of him. (8) ARIO HANOVER was better in his first start of 2026 when racing from off the pace. I trust J-Mac to work out a trip with him.

Race 8: FILLIES & MARES OPEN.

(4) TELLS ON A ROLL is back to her winning ways and gets to face off against a near identical group this week. She is the horse to catch. (5) SO MUCH MORE continues to gut out miles at the upper levels and makes her first over moves last a lot longer than many other horses. (2) CENTURY JAMILA is a reliable check-getter at the upper levels and usually brings a price when she hits the board.

Race 9: 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 3 RACES OR $50,000 (OS $90,000) LIFETIME. AE: 4 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER OPT. CLM. $60,000. ALLOWANCES FOR AGE.

(7) ETHERIUM PARTY should be tighter tonight after an off the pace try that saw him hit the board. He has enough gate speed to get into position. (2) BLUE BAR didn’t miss by much last week and has the speed on both ends of the mile to make him dangerous. (6) CENTURY LUCIFER can get into play with gate speed or a grinding move, but will need to sustain it if he wants to add value to this race.

Race 10: OPEN.

(1) ITS SATURDAY NIGHT looked like he was sitting on a win after his effort two starts ago, but he showed even more than that in last week’s Open. He is the horse to beat after a race like that. (7) BRUE HANOVER was unable to get into a winning position last week, and the outside flow got the jump on him. His familiar pilot should get more out of him. (3) BLUE HUNT took advantage of that sharp outer flow and was able to finish a solid second. He draws well and has versatility.

Race 11: NW $9,000 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $18,000 LAST 8 STARTS. AE: OPT. CLM. $50,000.

(10) UNCLE SHANK A gave Poseidon Seelster all he could handle last week, but came up just short. He works from the high draw again, but that didn’t bother him last time. (2) BOLD SPIRIT has the post edge and as much gate speed as anyone in here. He could be a threat to trip out. (4) DRINKIN BUDDY was a solid winner last week and has the ability to work from off the pace if others battle early.
