Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Monday 8/4

Kevin Plowcha|Aug 01, 2025
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Top Pick Stats: 107/313 (-$96.60)

Best Bets: 11/27 (-$10.90); Spot Plays: 6/28 (-$26.40)

Best Bet: SOMETIME SOMEWHERE (Race 4)

Spot Play: CHICAGO HALL (Race 9)

Early Pick 5: 2,5/2,4/5,6/6/2,4 $3.20

Late Pick 5: 3,6/4/1,2,4,7/4/1,4,6 $4.80

Race 1: 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 2 (FM 3) RACES OR $20,000 (OS $35,500) LIFETIME. AE: MARES NW $27,000 IN 2025.

(5) IBELIEVEINANGELS was a logical bounce back candidate given how well she trotted after the miscue two back, and she rallied extremely well to finish second. I think a lot of money will find her for good reason. (2) TAHONTA should have every chance to sit close and make noise when it matters. I don’t know how much she likes to win, though. (3) NICKEL AND DIME has been racing well in the Grassroots series and finds a spot where he could land on a helmet and hit the board. (6) BADEN BADEN was better last time, and has the kick to get a piece if things fall apart.

Race 2: PREFERRED.

(2) FASHION FRENZIE was left chasing after a cheap middle half. I think Louis gets more aggressive and he rebounds. (4) LOGAN PARK faded after a speed try in the Spirit Of Massachusetts trot. He is classy enough to come right back and win, but he may not be fully cranked after that effort. (3) NASEY has continued to race well and can hit the board with sitting a close trip. (6) GHOSTLY CASPER tends to take back at this level. He can close for a piece.

Race 3: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GOLD LEG 3. 2 YEAR OLD TROTTING FILLIES. STARTING FEE $900 CDN ($700 USD).

(5) FLOWING TRIBUTE got everything she wanted after the opening quarter and cruised in the stretch. She is the one to beat. (6) BINGO NIGHT was up against it when racing from off the pace with the slow middle half that was set. A tracking trip could see her post a strong effort. (2) VERY SASSY is a filly who is clearly improving and pulled off an upset win last time. She can track and hit the board. (4) M E LAUREL was making an outside move but eventually made a break. She is a step behind the top two right now anyway; I’ll use underneath.

Race 4: POP UP SERIES: HORSES THAT HAVE STARTED FOR A PURSE OF $7,500 OR LESS IN ONE OF LAST 3 STARTS. AE: NW $20,000 IN 2025 (MIN 10 STARTS). LEG 1.

(6) SOMETIME SOMEWHERE stands out here with his down the road speed and staying power. Plenty of money will find him. (5) LEAVE IT TO LUTHER has enough speed to sit a tracking trip behind the #6. Borth should be aggressive. (4) YYC ON THE HORIZON was better in his first effort off the claim, then had no chance when trying to work from the back. I would expect an improved effort from him. (3) TAYLORS CREDIT will look for a piece, potentially with a pylon skimming trip.

Race 5: MILLARD FARMS FINAL: 2 YEAR OLD TROTTING COLTS & GELDINGS.

(4) GREENARROW HANOVER took advantage of a drifting horse in the stretch and pulled off the upset. It was his second move in the race after initially clearing from post ten. I’ll give him the call to repeat in the final. (2) CAPTAIN CODE was more impressive last week. It took him forever to actually clear to the lead, and he only missed by less than a length despite drifting. If he is driven like the best horse in the race, I think he can be tracked down, but I expect another good effort. (1) SOUTHWIND CHESTER has shown enough staying power to grind into the race and hang on for a piece. Price will be lower if J-Mac is in the bike. (5) TYMAL STARSTRUCK can contend if he stays flat, but we haven’t consistently seen that yet. Proceed with caution.

Race 6: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GOLD LEG 3. 2 YEAR OLD TROTTING FILLIES. STARTING FEE $900 CDN ($700 USD).

(6) A SPLASH OF GREEN figures to rebound if she minds her manners. She was heavily bet last time. (3) FIGURATIVELY is a filly who is improving and has plenty of late trot. She should have a chance to pass rivals late. (7) TIMELESS took advantage of a stalking trip and got up for second at a big number. I wonder if that forces some aggression from the outside draw this week. (4) CHER HILL had broken equipment last time which spoiled her chances. She can float out and grab a share.

Race 7: POP UP SERIES: HORSES THAT HAVE STARTED FOR A PURSE OF $7,500 OR LESS IN ONE OF LAST 3 STARTS. AE: NW $20,000 IN 2025 (MIN 10 STARTS). LEG 1.

(4) LIVINTHEBEACHLIFE got a confidence boosting win at Rideau and returns for this Pop Up. His back class towers over these. (5) TARQUINIUS HANOVER gets JR Plante back in the bike who should get plenty of early speed from him. I can see him getting a cozy trip. (3) CRUNCH HANOVER is hard to ignore when you watch his races since the qualifier. He likes the smaller tracks, but should have every chance to pass horses late and hit the board. (8) REACTOR NOW A likes to show gate speed but hates to finish. An underneath use for me.

Race 8: POP UP SERIES: HORSES THAT HAVE STARTED FOR A PURSE OF $7,500 OR LESS IN ONE OF LAST 3 STARTS. AE: NW $20,000 IN 2025 (MIN 10 STARTS). LEG 1.

(1) BOOMING ECONOMY battled through the stretch and held second behind a runaway winner. He can get the job done this week. (7) THE GREEK FREAK should draw plenty of attention after his wire to wire score. That is the trip most of us have been waiting for with him. (4) BET THE BB could capitalize if the pace is too quick but will need to be in the right spot. He tends to wait until it’s too late, but last week’s aggressive steer does intrigue me. (2) LOOKINLIKEAMILLION makes his second start on Lasix. I’m very curious about his trip; If he gets quarter moved, he could take this group a very long way.

Race 9: 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 3 (FM 4) RACES OR $50,000 (OS $89,000) LIFETIME.

(4) CHICAGO HALL was locked in for the entirety of the stretch. Borth is listed now who should get him off the car quickly and out of trouble. (8) COVER BAND raced extremely well last week and nearly pulled off the big upset. I expect him to be forward again. (1) RIGHT HERE HANOVER gets a major post switch but the trip will probably work out how it always does. I think he’ll have too much work to do again. (9) LOOKATMEGOAMIGO drops from a Gold but I wonder how hard he’ll be pushed. He could easily beat me, but I’ll play against.

Race 10: POP UP SERIES: HORSES THAT HAVE STARTED FOR A PURSE OF $7,500 OR LESS IN ONE OF LAST 3 STARTS. AE: NW $20,000 IN 2025 (MIN 10 STARTS). LEG 1.

(6) ENFORCER finds a weaker bunch this week and could finally show some gate speed which made him dangerous back in June. He draws the perfect post for it. (1) ARTIES IDEAL has strong speed on both ends of the mile and makes sense on all tickets. (4) BET NINTEEN was a strong winner against claiming competition, but this is a step up. Louis Roy’s choice looms. (5) WALLACE HARTLEY has just one win this year but battles for minor shares often. (9) WRY will need a lot to go his way from out here but can close to round out the Hi-5.
