Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Monday 8/22

Garnet Barnsdale|Aug 19, 2022
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Meet Stats: 454 - 1398 / $2,371.40 (-$424.60)

Best Bets: 73 - 129 / $250.90 (-$7.10)

Spot Plays: 35 - 129 / $250.30 (-$7.70)

Best Bet: HES SWIFT (9TH)

Spot Play: RENEGADE GYPSY (4TH)

Early Pick 5: 3,5,6/4,6,9/1,2,3,5/5,6/3,8 = $28.80

Late Pick 5: 2,3,6/5,6/2,3,4/1,5/4,7,9 = $21.60

Early Pick 4: 5,6/3,8/2,3,6/5,6 = $24

Late Pick 4: 5,6/2,3,4/1,5/4,7,9 = $36

Race 1: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS 4th Leg 3YO Colts and Geldings **Guaranteed $100,000 Pick 5**

(5) WARRAWEE XALT got a needed clean line last week and he was absolutely flying late in that mile. This isn't the toughest Grassroots race. If he stays flat, he can break his maiden here. (6) MARVIN HAGLER tends to produce his best miles in these Grassroots dashes and he comes in off a good closing effort; using. (3) RESULUTE BAY should flash speed and he could get brave if he gets left alone on the lead for too long. He is another possibility for the early Pick 5. (1) RADIO LAB is another that should show speed and he should be part of the Super.

Race 2: Pop-Up Series Final F&M Claiming $15,000 for NW $20,000 LT

(6) MIGHTY MELISSA won the first leg of this series and she was claimed then protected by trainer Auciello. Last week's race vs. much tougher mares should have her perfectly set up to take this final. (4) ASHLEES DELIGHT should get a good setup for her late kick tonight and she is hard to leave off Pick 5 tickets. (9) POWER OF AN ANGEL is worth a close look racing for Barrington off the claim tonight. (7) MADDIGAL was a narrow loser to the choice in leg 1 then she was tripped out to win last week. I'll use her underneath tonight.

Race 3: CLM HDCP $8,500 to $10,000

(1) YOUNG DRUNK PUNK ships into Mohawk Park in good form and he gets McNair in the bike for this; slight nod in a race with several options. (5) THUNDERING JIM's last line is a toss because of drive and trip. He should improve picking up Sorrie tonight and he has been facing the toughest company lately; using. (3) BARRYS SHELBY, stablemate to the choice, beat that one last time and he is in terrific form. He is another Pick 5 possibility. (2) SIMON SAID gets J Mac for this and these are the types of races that he tends to win by waiting for others to move first then pouncing late.

Race 4: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS 4th Leg 3YO Colts and Geldings - Pick 4

(5) RENEGADE GYPSY has won his last two tries in Grassroots races with Macdonald driving and he gets the nod to take another here. (6) SEA CAN was picked off late by the choice in a good effort. Maybe he sits and rallies tonight; using. (2) LEXUS RANGER has shown he is fast enough to beat these but he blew up last time when bet down to 9 to 5. Your call, but I wouldn't take a short price. (1) MR FRITTER should flash speed and take another small share.

Race 5: CLM HDCP $15,000 to $20,000

(8) HIGH FLYIN JAMIE dropped and popped and this field isn't much tougher; call to repeat. (3) BETTOR NOTBITTER A is the main threat here dropping to where he last won and was claimed. Using these two on multi-race tickets should produce the winner. (10) REAL WICKED was loaded with pace in the lane last week and he changed course several times looking for racing room. His biggest hurdle tonight is his post and I can’t project a winning trip from out there; using underneath. (6) STATE OF PLAY can pass a few of these late and land in the Tri or Super.

Race 6: NW3 or $41,000 LT - Pick 5

(6) MRMAYOR HANOVER dug in to hold off (3) SOUTHWIND DOMINO last week and these two will likely battle for the win again. Nod to the former but using both on multi-race tickets. (2) PENCILS DOWN was an easy NW2 victor two starts back then she faced the best sophomore filly trotter in the country last week. She can crack the exotics tonight. (4) MERCUTIO had dead aim on the choice last week but he hung late. Small share predicted here.

Race 7: Pop-Up Series Final Claiming $15,000 for NW $20,000 LT - Pick 4

There are several interesting dynamics in play in this Pop-Up Final starting with (5) SOUTHWIND BRONN changing hands via private sale after giving (6) BIG ACE a race last week. Next, we have the latter exiting the Cullen barn after being claimed out of that race, his third win in three tries in the preliminary legs of the series. All of that leads me to favor the former who should get first run on the latter again tonight. (1) ALADDIN DU LAC switches barns for this and he can improve enough to make it into the Tri. (8) YARM raced decently in defeat last week and he should be in the exotics mix again.

Race 8: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS 4th Leg 3YO Colts and Geldings

(2) FEEL THE FORCE looked good taking a Grassroots win from off the pace last week and he should be the boss here if he stays flat. (4) RED OVERBACH was no match for Star Power Hanover but he stacks up well here and he should be the main threat. (3) MAPLE LEAF BOUND was first up last week and that's not his best trip. He likely sits and rallies for a share tonight. (1) ANGELS EXPRESS is worth a look for the bottom of the exotics drawing inside for this.

Race 9: NW $3,000 L5 or $8,000 L10 AE: Starters for a purse of $9,000 L3 or NW2 in 2022

(5) HES SWIFT takes a big class drop here and he will likely look to bottom out this field; top call. (1) RESPECT OUR FLAG is razor-sharp and he will probably be the one to hold off deep in the lane; using. (4) LETS GET PICKLED qualified for this race by starting for a $7,500 purse at Grand River Monday night and he was a predictable chalky winner then. He is in the exotics mix. (8) CENTURY FURY fits better here than he did in last week’s class but he is an infrequent winner. I'll use him underneath.

Race 10: NW $2,000 L3

(4) TRU BLU HYPNOTIC was on fire late last week but he started his rally from Campbellville Road and he had too far too come. Price is probably gone now but he should have a big shot in this second start for new connections. (9) HERVEY HANOVER has flashed more early speed than what is typical for him in his past two starts. That should be a precursor to a big speed blast on the class drop and he should be the one to catch here. (7) FABRIZIO N is an interesting shipper who faces easier and he has won here before. He is another in with a chance. (2) REAGAN BLUE CHIP’s late kick should play better here. He can close for a share. (1) WILDRIVERBUMBLEBEE is improving and worth using on the bottom of the exotics at a price.
