Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Monday 7/13

Garnet Barnsdale|Jul 10, 2020
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Meet Stats: 71-250 / $383.20 (-$115.80)
Best Bets: 12-23 / $42.60 (-$3,40)
Spot Plays: 6-23 / $45.10 (-$0.90)
Best Bet:
VILLEFRANCHE AS (10TH)
Spot Play: TOP OF THE BAR (3RD)
Early Pick 5: 5,6/1,2,4,6/1,4,5/1/1,8,9 = $14.40
Late Pick 5: 1,8/2,5,6/1,2/2,4,6/9 = $7.20
Early Pick 4: 1/1,8,9/1,8/2,5,6 = $18
Late Pick 4: 2,5,6/1,2/2,4,6/9 = $18

Race 1: Two Year Olds **GTD $75,000 Pick 5**

(6) DEAN B HANOVER, a $340,000 Lexington buy, looked better in his second qualifier and this barn sends them to win early. He gets top call in the opener. (5) IGNITE SEELSTER goes for a barn that has been doing well with rookies this season so far and he is worth a Pick 5 look here. (9) PERFECTBOY HANOVER, bought for $85,000 at Harrisburg, has shown some good late zip in his qualifiers and he can hit the ticket despite drawing wide for this debut. (8) ISLAND BEACH BOY made up a lot of ground in his second qualifier. I'll use him underneath here.

Race 2: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES - GRASSROOTS - 2 YEAR OLD FILLIES

In a race that looks like a complete crapshoot, I'll land on (6) YOU WILL BE QUEEN who improved sharply in her second qualifier and has been driven by Christoforou in both of her qualifiers. (1) DARLING PLEASE is from the first crop of a sire that had some success at this track and she looks ready to roll in this debut; using. (2) INCREDIBLE TWO closed nicely after being unhurried early in her lone qualifier and she should be in the exotics mix here. (4) A BLUE BLOOD similarly closed well in her most recent qualifier and she is another possibility here.

Race 3: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES - GRASSROOTS - 2 YEAR OLD FILLIES

(5) TOP OF THE BAR is related to a few winners including Tymal Tempest who had some success in the Ontario Sires Stakes. Owner/trainer Etsell enlists McClure to drive in this debut race which signals all systems go. (4) IMEXTRASPECIAL will likely be the chalk off her powerful July 3rd qualifier and she is a Pick 5 must-use for me. (1) O SOLO MIO has experience edge on most of these and her opener wasn't bad at all. She's in with an upset chance here. (6) YOGA MOUSE's breeding suggests she can and should be better than she showed in that one qualifier. Give her a price look for the exotics.

Race 4: 3YO NW 1 or $7,000 - Pick 4

(1) TRUFFLE DOG was unleashed at the tote board and he absolutely flew home to just miss against stakes colts. He will get hammered at the windows here and he has had some gait issues in the past, but he should beat these if he behaves. (9) WINDSUN AZAR was part of some wicked fractions last time and understandably tired at the end of the mile. He could provide some Exacta value here. (7) MENLO PARK takes a share in every start and he should make it on the Tri ticket here again. (2) HES SWIFT should improve with the move inside and he may make it into the Super at a price.

Race 5: CLM HDCP $25,000 to $30,000

(9) KING OF THE JUNGLE looked terrific winning last week and in this spot I doubt post 9 will stop him from taking a fourth straight win. (8) SHADOW ME THE MONEY was 2nd to the choice last week and he will likely be looking for a spot near the front early here again; Exacta factor. (1) LEGAL BETTOR races off the claim and gets an improved post for this. He should be closing for a share. (3) CASIMIR RUMRUNNER beat a horse two starts back that already came back and jogged. He's not out of this but I prefer to use him underneath in this field.

Race 6: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES - GRASSROOTS - 2 YEAR OLD FILLIES Pick 5

(8) EQUINOX ANNIE is a $31,000 London Selected Sale buy who is a 1/2-sister to 34-time winner Sass who took many of those wins at Mohawk Park. Her qualifier says she's ready and she gets top call at first asking. (1) BAN BAN DEO looks well-prepped for her debut and she is on my multi-race tickets. (2) TIPSY IN DIXIE had shown some ability in her three qualifiers and she should take a share here. (4) RUBYS ARE NICE's quick final 1/4 sparks some interest for the exotics.

Race 7: 4YO and Younger NW2 or $35,000 LT - Pick 4

(6) NIGHT WATCHMAN sees no Tattoo Artists or Indictable Hanovers lined up to face him here and he can resume his winning ways against this group. (2) SIDDHARTHA was hammered at the windows last week and he parlayed a good trip and a smart drive into a win. He should be an Exacta factor here. (5) LETS GET PICKLED will be a big price here but he has a wicked brush when he is on his game and he's worth a look for the Tri and Super. (3) DAY DELIGHT gets post relief and he is another who should make it onto the Super ticket.

Race 8: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES - GRASSROOTS - 2 YEAR OLD FILLIES

(2) CHARMBO PRINCESS is a full-sister to Charmbo Prince who won early and has taken three wins from nine starts so far and also has Saftic as a driver. I'll give her the nod here over (1) SALOME who was dominant in her second qualifier and is the obvious one to beat. (4) MAG N LADY showed some interest late in her only qualifier; using underneath. (8) STONEBRIDGE STRONG shows the fastest final 1/4 and she is worth including in Tris and Supers.

Race 9: NW $5,000 L5 or $10,500 L10

(4) ISITFRIDAYYET improved with the drop to this level last week finishing right with the tough veteran Ellis Park. He has a good shot here. (6) WESTLUCKY TERROR drops and he should get sent hard leaving the gate. He's in the late multi-race mix. (2) BIT OF LUCK should be closer early here moving to an inside post. Give him a look for Tri bets. (8) ICY BLUE SCOOTER can pass a few of these in the back 1/2 and land in the Super.

Race 10: NW5 (F&M7) or $70,000 (F&M $87,500)

(9) VILLEFRANCHE AS has been on fire and she gets to face many stakes types here that a good majority of are in this race to maintain their sharpness. You know where she is heading leaving the gate and she gets top call despite drawing widest. (2) HP BRUXELLES was 2nd to the choice last time but she needs to find more to go with her late. (6) LOVEDBYTHEMASSES threw in a rare dud at Georgian Downs. He should bounce back here on the bigger track. (1) LEFKADA was fourth to the choice last week and she is one that can ride a good trip to a spot in this High-5. (3) BLUE CUPERTINO is obviously capable of better and it wouldn't be a shock if he finished higher than what is predicted here.
