Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Monday 6/14

Garnet Barnsdale|Jun 11, 2021
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Best Bet: JIMMY CONNOR B (7TH)

Spot Play: MISS ROCKADALI (4TH)

Early Pick 5: 3,5,6,8/2,6/1,2,8/2,8/1,4,7 = $28.80

Late Pick 5: 3,7,9/2,3,9/2/2,7,8/2,4,7 = $16.20

Early Pick 4: 2,8/1,4,7/3,7,9/2,3,9 = $54

Late Pick 4: 2,3,9/2/2,7,8/2,4,7 = $27

Race 1: 4YO and Younger NW1 or $7,000 LT **$100K GTD Pick 5**

(8) FAXOFLIFE HANOVER, a $20,000 Harrisburg buy, is a 1/2 sister to local $600,000 winner Free Willy Hanover and she is sent out by that one's trainer. She looks live for this debut as do many others; slight nod. (6) DEALIN WITH DEWEY broke in his lone 2020 start but conditioner Baillargeon appears to have him on the right track now; using. (5) SPLASH OF HALO, a $15,000 Lexington sale purchase, flashed nice late speed to finish off a winning qualifier. He is another in with a shot in a race that could boil down to which of these inexperienced trotters stay flat. (3) WHOLE NINE YARDS, a $23,000 Harrisburg buy, is a 1/2 brother to millionaire Cedar Dove and he goes for the same connections that condition local trotting star Pemberton. He is another to consider in a race where it makes sense to spread when making Pick 5 tickets.

Race 2: NW5 (F&M8) or $70,000 (F&M $87,500)

(6) HIGH GEAR NO FEAR looks to keep his record perfect at Mohawk Park as he shoots for his fifth straight win and he looks good facing some returning stakes types that obviously have bigger fish to fry. (2) IMEXTRASPECIAL was terrific last year when he brought his 'A' game and he is capable here if he brings close to his best effort. (1) SPRUCE CREEK comes off a decent effort in New Jersey and she should be good for a share in this spot. (3) HAWAII swept the Harvest series when last seen but this is tougher; small share predicted.

Race 3: 4YO and Younger NW1 or $7,000 LT

This is a good spot for $40,000 Lexington purchase (2) TAKE A GAMBLE who is by a top sire and goes for connections that typically send them ready. (8) GLOBAL CRUSH was good in his lone race at this track last December and I like that Jamieson drove him aggressively in his June 3rd qualifier. He is worth a look here. (1) SUNDOWN didn't show much from an outer post in his qualifier for this but he did speed home in 27 flat. McClure sticks; maybe a wakeup coming here? (3) DOWNERS DELIGHT comes out of a fast qualifier where he raced only evenly. I'll use him on the bottom here.

Race 4: F&M Who have started for a $15,000 Claiming Tag or Lower - Pick 4

This is the type of race where Trevor Henry blasts right to the front with (8) MISS ROCKADALI and takes no prisoners; top call. (2) REAR VIEW is interesting to me dropping out of conditioned races and picking up McClure. She’s the other one that I'll use on multi-race tickets. (7) KIWI FOCUS N qualified well for this and she is always in the mix it seems; using underneath. (1) BEHAVENMYSELF looks good to land in the Tri or Super in this spot.

Race 5: 4YO and Younger NW2 or $15,000 LT

(1) P L OZZY uncorked a sub-1:50 winning effort less than a month ago and he figures to be tough to beat in this spot. (7) CONTROL HEAVEN fits well here after finishing third in a fast NW3 mile in Pennsylvania. He is likely the main danger to the choice. (4) CENTURY HEINEKEN has already beaten NW2 and he is capable in this spot. His May 27th qualifier signals readiness. (6) TRUFFLE DOG is very fast on his best day but he has frequent gait issues. Consider using him in the exotics at a price.

Race 6: Starters for a Claiming Tag of $15,000 or Less in One of L6 - Pick 5

(7) GLOIRE DREAM takes the biggest drop in here and this should be a good spot for him if he is ready to roll. (9) ON THE SLY ships in with a recency edge and he moves into the barn of cagey veteran Budd. He is certainly worth a look in this spot. (3) CLOUD NINE HANOVER fits this class well and picking up teamster Roy shouldn't hurt. He is another possibility if the choice falters. (4) CAVIARS TRIUMPH was a winner vs. easier last time he raced in a claimer. I see him taking a small slice in this spot.

Race 7: NW $3,100 L5 or $7,000 L10 - Pick 4

This is a tough race to close out the early Pick 4. I'm going to side with (2) TEDDYS LITTLE ANGEL based on her sharp qualifier on June 5th. (9) TT CONWAY ships in with sharp form and he is a threat to lead all the way. (3) SOUTHWIND AVENGER changes barns, picks up McNair and drops Lasix. Maybe those changes will wake him up; using. (7) HOLDIN ACES can close late to make it into the Tri or Super in this easier spot.

Race 8: 5YO and Younger NW2 or $30,000 LT

(2) JIMMY CONNOR B was up against at the Meadowlands where his sub-26 late speed barely got him a sniff. He can beat this group and he gets the nod. (1) SOUTHBEACH HANOVER has some recent races down south, too, and he looks like a solid exotics player vs. these. (8) A BETTER MAN was doing okay racing against NW6 in British Columbia and he can take a share vs. these. (3) LOVEMYROCKINBIRD flashed some talent racing in Alberta last year. I could see him coming on late to take a slice.

Race 9: PREFERRED HANDICAP

This Preferred came up a bit light so you have to think that the 2020 'O Brien Award winner for aged trotter (8) PERFETTO will look to impose his will. (7) ZIG ZAG beat the choice in the last Preferred Trot before racing shut down and he has a recency edge. He is the obvious danger. (2) TREASURED TEE is another who has seen recent action that should be in the mix tonight. (5) SUPERLATIVE was in great form when last seen and she looks sharp for this; using underneath.

Race 10: NW $12,000 L5 or $20,000 L10 AE: OPT CLM $35,000

(4) BAUTISTA was a winner in a similar class in late May and he looks good vs. this group; top call. (2) BUZZ is well-situated to get a good trip tonight and he is worth using at what should be a good price. (7) MEMO exits some tough Meadowlands dashes that should have him primed for a good try here. He isn't out of this. (8) VILLEFRANCHE AS is capable of better than she showed on March 29th and I'll use her underneath at what should be a good price. (5) MUSCLE FASHION is likely to be leaving and I see him sticking around for a share.
