Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Monday 5/25

Kevin Plowcha|May 22, 2026
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Top Pick Stats: 253/813 (-$349.10)

Best Bets: 30/74 (-$25.90); Spot Plays: 18/76 (-$48.90)

Best Bet: ANIBAL DUHARAS (Race 7)

Spot Play: CALYX (Race 11)

Early Pick-5: 7/8/3,5,10/2,3/4,5,7 $3.60

Late Pick-5: 2,8/2/8,10/2,5/6 $1.60

Race 1: 4 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 1 (WINNERS FOR A PURSE OF $9,000 OR LESS 2 RACES) RACE OR $9,000 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES.

(7) IN SESSION appears ready to roll on the strength of her second qualifier. She was a fringe player in the Commonwealth Series for most of her freshman campaign. (1) JUST ALL OUT showcased some ability last season but the chance of a miscue looms, especially from the rail. Young might be conservative in the early stages to keep her flat. (3) DULCES SUENOS DEO showed more gate speed than usual last week, but that didn’t provide him the best result. Look for him to work off the pace tonight and try to get a piece.

Race 2: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GRASSROOTS LEG 1. 3 YEAR OLD TROTTING COLTS & GELDINGS. STARTING FEE $400 CDN ($315 USD).

(8) TAVERN ONTHE GREEN was a sharp second in his return and should only improve off that effort. Roy should put him in a spot where he is likely to have every chance. (4) TOSS OF THE DICE did not trot a sub-:26 final quarter, but I thought he was okay when given excess cover. He is improving and finds a softer spot tonight. (1) THE GREEN GAZOO gets major post relief for his second start back and should have a much better chance to be in the mix.

Race 3: HORSES & GELDINGS CLAIMING $8,000. ALLOWANCES FOR AGE.

(10) GLORYVIEW IMAGE came right back with another sharp win on the front end. No surprise he was claimed, and it will be no surprise if he wins again despite the post. (3) BLAST OF SUNSHINE was better last week and should be looming late if the favorite doesn’t deliver. (5) COASTLINE made a decent account of himself when going back on Lasix. He can step forward off an effort like that and get a piece. Watch for him at a price if the race falls apart.

Race 4: NW $30,000 LAST 4 STARTS. AE: NW 8 RACES OR $150,000 LIFETIME. AE: 4 YEAR OLDS.

(3) STORMONT BEAUTIFUL was a severe underlay last week considering she likely was going to race from last. That shouldn’t be the case this week with a big post switch. I think the third time’s the charm for her. (2) P L SPENCER faces another salty bunch tonight, but has the luxury of having two starts under his belt. The limiting factor might be the inside draw because of the potential early speed to his outside. (8) PENNTELLER HANOVER got a nice steer from Tyler Jones last week and closed well to finish second. A similar trip seems in store from an outside post.

Race 5: 4 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 1 (WINNERS FOR A PURSE OF $9,000 OR LESS 2 RACES) RACE OR $9,000 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES.

(7) WILD ROSE HANOVER is improving with each start with last week being her best. A repeat of that mile or another step forward gives her a big chance. (4) HP SOPHIA returns to action after just one qualifier but adds Lasix and draws a post where Plante could fire out if she is ready. He could catch his peers napping in a race where the top two stick out on paper. (5) FIGURATIVELY is likely the fastest horse in this group, but I’m not sure how ready she’ll be after last week’s qualifier. I’ll play against her tonight.

Race 6: 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 3 (FM 4) RACES OR $50,000 (OS $62,500) LIFETIME.

(8) EXACTLY rebounded excellently last week with a sharp win. He charged on the outside and nailed Tavern Onthe Green. I’ll give him the call to repeat. (2) ONE BELLE just missed in her first start back and is likely to step forward after an effort like that. Borth is a more than capable driver for her with J-Mac going towards the Bossence trainee. (5) VALIDUS was much better last week and now gets an improved post. Some gate speed could allow her to sit a good trip.

Race 7: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GRASSROOTS LEG 1. 3 YEAR OLD TROTTING COLTS & GELDINGS. STARTING FEE $400 CDN ($315 USD).

(2) ANIBAL DUHARAS was gapping around the final turn, but had plenty of interest in midstretch and found himself racing between horses in the final 15 strides. He had to settle for fourth but was only beaten a neck. Look for a cleaner trip and a better result. (5) HOT COUNTRY was never really involved last week, but that was a perfect tightener for tonight where he gets his familiar pilot back. I would expect some gate speed to be shown. (1) MAGIC LIAM makes his Mohawk debut after a solid qualifier. I would expect him to improve on that and be in the mix.

Race 8: CLAIMING HANDICAP $20,000 TO $25,000 FOR NW $100,500 LIFETIME. ALLOWANCES FOR AGE & SEX. ENTER IN MULTIPLES OF $1,000.

(8) SMILES FOR MILES looks for three wins in a row after a strong wire to wire victory in his latest. He should be on the move in the early stages. (10) NATIONAL TIER drew away from his rivals last week but now has to navigate the high draw. It likely helps his price, but maybe not his trip. (1) RYLENTLESS continues to be a grinder that picks up pieces. He should have the chance to get a ground saving trip and get a check. I’ll use him underneath.

Race 9: 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 2 (FM 3) RACES OR $21,500 LIFETIME.

(2) IMPERATIVE made a costly miscue behind the gate and took himself out of the race as the heavy favorite. I’ll give him another chance tonight. His win two back was very good. (5) ROYAL CAPTAIN was ambitiously spotted in Kentucky, but looks ready to return and begin a successful sophomore campaign. He draws perfectly to set up a forward trip in his first start back. (7) I AM took lots of support in what was his career debut and got the job done. We aren’t sure how deep his bag is yet, but he deserves a look.

Race 10: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GRASSROOTS LEG 1. 3 YEAR OLD TROTTING COLTS & GELDINGS. STARTING FEE $400 CDN ($315 USD).

(6) FIRST CLASS MASS spoiled his upset bid last week with an early miscue. J-Mac got into traffic trouble two back that cost him; I have a feeling he hasn’t forgotten about that. (5) WOLVERINE LEGEND follows the same path as First Class Mass and has plenty of early speed which should have him in the mix right away. (8) NOTATTHETABLCARLOS has displayed sharp final quarters in each of his two starts this year, but might be too far out of it if he decides to take back again.

Race 11: FILLIES & MARES NW 2 RACES OR $30,000 (OS $37,500) LIFETIME.

(6) CALYX doesn’t have to deal with the red-hot TH Trixr Forkids this week, and displays a late kick that has her in contention most weeks. Her post draw luck hasn’t been the best, but has a good one tonight. (4) SOUTHWIND FLORENCE pulled off an upset win in her latest when given a good steer by Super Mario. If she shows gate speed again, she could repeat. (7) SHERLYN HANOVER has been right there in recent weeks and has only missed the board once in eight career tries. She is a logical use anywhere on your finale tickets.
