Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Monday 5/16

Garnet Barnsdale|May 13, 2022
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Meet Stats: 229 - 716 / $1289.80 (-$142.20)

Best Bets: 41 - 67 / $134.40 (+$2.40)

Spot Plays: 24 - 67 / $161.30 (+$29.30)

Best Bet: KAMERAN HANOVER (6TH)

Spot Play: HESOHOT HANOVER (8TH)

Early Pick 5: 6,7/5,6,8/3,6/1,3,5/1,3,4 = $21.60

Late Pick 5: 5/7,8,9/4,5,8/1,2,4,5/7,8 = $14.40

Early Pick 4: 1,3,5/1,3,4/5/7,8,9 = $27

Late Pick 4: 7,8/4,5,8/1,2,4,5/7,8 = $48

Race 1: 4YO and Younger NW1 or $7,000 LT **Guaranteed $100,000 Pick 5**

(7) MUSCLE ENVY gets a better post after racing decently in an improved effort from post 10 and I'll give her the nod in a race with no standout. (6) LENIS is another that comes in off an improved race and he is probably the one to beat here; using. I like the way (10) ILLUSIONAL qualified for this, but from post 10 he might not get put into the race early enough. I'd demand a price here. (3) FRENCH PERFUME took a lot of action on debut last week and she showed little. She might be ten times the price tonight if you still like her.

Race 2: CLM HDCP $22,000 to $30,000

(8) FARMERS TAN beat all of these except the rail horse last week and I believe he will offer another square price here. I'll call him to repeat. (6) JULERICA is going to get hammered tonight because he was full of pace in the lane and couldn't get through until it was too late last week. I tend to try to beat these types who had easy trips and were loaded as a result, because they often are asked to go much tougher trips and get beat in their next starts. (5) HERESTHATMANAGAIN flies late and he might get the setup he needs tonight; using. (3) CHOREOGRAPHER should sit another good trip and land in the exotics.

[DRF BETS: Wager on tonight's Mohawk Park card at DRF Bets.com!]

Race 3: NW5 (F&M7) or $86,000 (F&M $100,000) LT

(6) GOODGOLLYMISSMOLLY shoots for six straight wins here and the rival she shaded last time has already come back to jog at this level. She is the obvious one to beat. (3) MACALLAN is on a roll and he dug deep to hold off a charging rival last week. Young drives this gelding with great confidence and he might be up to taking down the choice tonight; using. (5) ON A STREAK can improve enough in this second start as a four-year-old to hit the board. (9) HONE THE TONE should be closing late again to take a small share.

Race 4: 4YO and Younger NW1 or $7,000 LT - Pick 4

(3) LYONS PRIDE finished fast after lacking room early in the stretch last week. I'll give him the nod here thinking he is sitting on a big effort in this third start back. (1) CAMARA MOMENT was just about to start an outside move and he broke last week. If he is sound, he could jog on these, but there are concerns with this one and I wouldn't land here if he offers a really short price. (5) CENTURY INSPECTOR made a good living taking shares in stakes last year and opening the season in a maiden race gives him a good chance to get off the schneid. He’s hard to toss. (6) Y S MATHIS BRO flashed good speed at two and he should be in the exotics mix in this 2022 debut.

Race 5: NW $21,000 L5 or $30,000 L10 or NW $130,000 LT AE: 4YO

Returnee (1) LOGAN PARK looks sharp and he attracted the leading driver for this. I'll give him a slight nod in a tough race. (3) DREAM NATION doesn't have to face Oney Hall or Spartan General this week and he should be in the mix by default; using. (4) DERF HANOVER drops, adds Lasix, and picks up Henry to drive; upset chance. (7) BUCK DANCER is another dropper that is worth a look but I prefer to use this one underneath.

Race 6: NW $6,700 L5 or $14,000 L10 - Pick 5

(5) KAMERAN HANOVER won last time he raced this low and he beat a better field on that occasion. He should get an aggressive steer from Christoforou tonight; top call. (7) LAZZARO comes off a decent closing effort vs. similar and he should be an Exacta factor in here. (1) WISHYOUDTELLME steps up in class but he likely sits and rallies for a share as he has done in his past two starts. (3) SHES GOT PIZZAZZ is another that figures to be passing rivals late. I'll use her on the bottom of the exotics.

Race 7: CLM HDCP $12,000 to $18,000 - Pick 4

(8) A BOY NAMED SUUZZ bounced back with a win racing off the Moreau claim last week and he is the one to beat here despite drawing wide. (7) BETTOR NOTBITTER A can improve here racing off the Guillemette claim. He is the other one that I'll use on multi-race tickets. (9) MACHIN A TRICK motors home every week but he is often a victim of pace, trip, and traffic issues. A small share is likely for him tonight. (2) THE OPTIMIST figures to sit another trip racing near the front and stick around for a share.

Race 8: Horses that have started for a purse of $15,000 or less in 1 or L5

(5) HESOHOT HANOVER got held up in the third 1/4, finally slipping out onto 4th-over cover and he flew in the lane when he was shown racetrack, chasing down a loose leader. Off that effort, I'll give him the call to repeat. (4) ARRAKIS drops to a level where he has had a lot of recent success and he should be much more aggressive tonight; using. (8) ESQUIRE comes off a nice effort from the 10-hole and moving in a couple of posts gives him a chance in this spot. (7) I GOT THE LOOKS was impressive winning last week but he didn't beat much then. I'll use him on the bottom facing better here.

Race 9: FREE FOR ALL

Interesting race with some returnees changing the complexion of this class. I'll take a shot with improving (2) SPARTAN GENERAL, who could get a setup and reach up late at a price. (3) ONEY HALL didn’t look as dominant last week and no horse wins forever at this level. He is still the one to beat, but he seems a bit vulnerable this week. (5) FORBIDDEN TRADE and (1) PEMBERTON add intrigue to this race because there isn't much doubt they are the two best horses. You wonder how hard they will be raced in the first start of the season with bigger dances on their card this summer.

Race 10: NW $11,000 L5 or $29,000 L10 AE: Mares

(8) H P MAMA B might have won last week if she didn't start to run in late which required Filion to steady her. With that seasonal debut under her belt, I'll give her the nod here. (7) PHOENIX drops because he broke last week and missed a check. He should be right there vs. these if he behaves tonight; using. (10) ALL THE TRUTH raced big in defeat considering the trip her got last week, but he draws worst here which will make things difficult; using underneath. (1) ALL WRAPPED UP flashed home in 27-flat last week but the late pace was too strong. He can take a share here. (2) FREE WILLY HANOVER suffered interference late in the mile from the choice last week. He should be good for another share here.
