Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Monday 3/22

Garnet Barnsdale|Mar 19, 2021
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Meet Stats: 61/168 - $324.10 (-$11.90)
Best Bets: 8/17 - $24.20 (-$9.80)
Spot Plays: 7/17 - $42.40 (+$18.40)
Best Bet:
BLUEMOON BAYAMA (8TH)
Spot Play: FIRST CLASS HORSE (11TH)
Early Pick 5: 3,6,7/2,6/1,7,8/4,5/2,3 = $14.40
Late Pick 5: 2,4,5/5,6/6/1,3/1,3,4 = $7.60
Early Pick 4: 4,5/2,3/2,4,5/5,6 = $24
Late Pick 4: 6/1,3/1,3,4/2,5,8 = $18

Race 1: F&M 4YO and Younger NW1 or $7,000 LT **$100,000 GTD Pick 5**

(6) ZIPPER SWEATER didn't have much of a chance to close ground in her debut considering the final 1/4 was paced in 27-flat. This looks like an easier spot and she should be more aggressive tonight; top call. (3) BEWITCHED HANOVER raced evenly and finished 1/4 of a length behind the choice. She is another that can improve sharply here. (7) B VANISH, a homebred 1/2-sister to 1:50 1/5 pacer B Stoney, lands in a soft spot for her debut and she should have a chance here; using. (2) LADY KATIE B is one that can sit a following trip and land in the bottom of the Super.

Race 2: WINE AND ROSES TROTTING SERIES FINAL

(6) SHESWILDNFREE is obviously the best mare in here but after jumping it off at the start as an overwhelming favorite, what price would you take tonight? (2) HP STARLETTE was used hard early and that softened her up late. She is still the most logical alternative to the choice in my opinion. (4) TESLA SEELSTER tripped out to blow up the tote board last week. I prefer to use her underneath in this final. (8) IMPULSE BUY was 2nd to the choice two starts back and she should be a factor here at what should be a square price.

Race 3: NW $8,900 L5 or $17,000 L10 or NW $90,000 LT

(8) GRANDMA HEIDI drops again and she should be the one to catch in a spot where she could assert her will; top call. (1) NIMBUS DEO was a win machine last year and she could be a bit sneaky here shipping back from Ottawa. I'll use her as a potential value play in the early Pick 5. (7) IM THE MUSCLE was razor-sharp last week and he is another who is capable in this spot. (6) ONLY FOR JUSTICE was wildly overbet last week and he showed nothing. He is dropping again but he's a bet against for me tonight.

Race 4: CLAIMING $8,000 - Pick 4

(5) COOL ROCK had no chance whatsoever last week the way the race played out with a non-advancing rival totally clogging up the flow, but he still circled them all but winner (4) LEVY TAYLORE. I'll give Cool Rock the edge racing off the Moreau claim but use them both in multi-race tickets in what will likely come down to a two-horse race. (1) TELL US MORE reversed his form at Flamboro last time and he can take a slice in this field. (6) MACH MESSIER, third to the two choices last week, is likely to land in the Tri or Super again.

Race 5: FAMILY DAY TROTTING SERIES FINAL

(3) TOCCOA FALLS trotted a 27-flat kicker uncovered and that still wasn't good enough last week in a race where the early pace favored the winner. He is due for a better trip and maybe he gets it tonight. (2) FRANKS ANGEL was right there with the choice and shaded him late but he had a much better trip. His potent gate speed puts him in the equation here. (10) CHARMBO PRINCE is unbeaten in this series but it makes sense to try to beat him starting from the second tier tonight. (1) MEADOWBRANCH NOBLE rarely misses the ticket and he should be in the exotics mix again.

Race 6: 5YO and Younger NW2 or $19,000 LT - Pick 5

(4) SOUTHWIND SANDOR paced a sub-28 third 1/4 over a track rated two seconds slow just to get into contention last time then he couldn't get the job finished. He can beat these with a more aggressive drive. (5) BETTIM AGAIN showed enough speed racing in the Maritimes last year to be competitive with these. Don't be surprised if he drops several seconds tonight. (2) BIG CHIC MAGNET was a game first-over maiden breaker last time and he is in with a chance facing tougher here. (1) COOLSUNSHINE also steps up and he is unlikely to be left alone on the lead again; using underneath.

Race 7: 5YO and Younger NW1 or $7,600

(6) HOPE SO was game in defeat last week but trip went against her as she was trying to catch the leader in the fastest 1/4 of the race. She looks solid in here. (5) THE WHEEL exits the same race as the choice and he sports a sub-28 kicker now draws much better. She's the second one that I'll use on late multi-race tickets. (2) TANZANITE TRIXX gets Macdonald back in the bike and that should make her an exotics factor tonight. (7) HOLY CHICK raced okay in her debut and she is capable of landing in the Super again.

Race 8: 4YO and Younger NW1 or $8,000 LT - Pick 4

(6) BLUEMOON BAYAMA was impressive in defeat last week and he should have no problem beating this group. (1) SONIC FLARE circled up late to get third on Thursday night and he looks next best in here. (8) KINGS JESTER tried the Snowshoe series and he picked up a check. He can add some value to the bottom of the Tri or Super this week. (9) THINKING OF SLIM has all thirds so far and he is another who can land in the Super despite drawing widest.

Race 9: PREFERRED

Is there a sharper racehorse on the grounds than (3) BUCK DANCER? He hasn't been beaten yet in six trips over this racetrack and that streak should continue. (1) PERFETTO raced great from an outside post last week and if the choice falters, he is the most likely upsetter. (7) ITS ACADEMIC should be the first leader again and he is likely to be part of the Tri again. (6) ZIG ZAG gets bet every week and he can work his way into the exotics.

Race 10: NW $12,000 L5 or $26,000 L10 or NW5 LT AE: OPT CLAIMING $35,000

(3) P L JILL takes a big class plunge here and she should dominate at this class level is she is anywhere close to her best. (4) FLY BEYOND never gets bet but he's right there every week; using underneath. (1) BAUTISTA is the other class dropper that should improve and he is likely to get position early and ride it to a high placing. (8) ON THE ROPES is rarely off the board and from an outer post he can add some value to the Super.

Race 11: NW $3,000 L5 or $9,700 L10

(8) FIRST CLASS HORSE improved sharply in his second qualifier for trainer West who bought the stallion for himself in February. He could beat these on memory if he is cranked up and reasonably sound. (2) BEACHIN LINDY raced well in Thursday night's finale and he is a logical contender in this spot; using. (5) XPERT BAYAMA was right there two starts back at this level when he drew well and from the middle of the gate tonight, he is in with a shot. (6) OSBORNE SEELSTER should get position early and ride it to a spot in the High-5. (1) BIG BULLY can improve in this class tonight; consider for the bottom of the exotics.
