Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Monday 3/18

Garnet Barnsdale|Mar 15, 2024
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Top Pick Stats: 125 - 414 / $606.80 (-$221.20)

Best Bets: 22 - 40 / $72.30 (-$7.70)

Spot Plays: 5 - 38 / $21.20 (-$54.80)

Best Bet: LETS GET ROCKED (2ND)

Spot Play: BEACH FIRE K (5TH )

Early Pick 5: 2,3,7/3/6,7/3,6,9/4,6,7/ = $10.80

Late Pick 5: 2/1,4,9/1,2,4,6/2,3,7/3,4 = $14.40

Early Pick 4: 3,6,9/4,6,7/2/1,4,9 = $5.40

Late Pick 4: 1,2,4,6/2,3,7/3,4/1,2 = $9.60

Race 1: NW $8,000 L5 or $16,000 L8 or NW 6LT AE: OPT CLM $50,000 **Gtd. $100,000 Pick 5**

(7) MISTER MAGIC steps up off a loss but he closed a ton of ground late in that mile and he has been sharp for many weeks. The class jump will help his price. I’ll give him the nod to chase them down late. (2) YO MISTER is in an obviously much easier spot after getting hung the mile in the New Holland Series. He will likely be the one to chase down. (3) MRMAYOR HANOVER seems to fit okay, with (6) MACALLAN, who got the trip and he had clear sailing along the pylons in the lane but he could do no better than 3rd as the chalk. I’ll use him underneath here.

Race 2: Pop-Up series CLM $8,000 3rd Leg

(3) LETS GET ROCKED, claimed by Waxman last week, was closest to streaking Royal Regatta and this is a much easier spot for him. He will be a single for me. (1) THE COLT shows some improvement in his last two starts and he is one of four in here racing off the claim. He can be an Exacta factor tonight. (2) FEAR THE DICE’s recent first up moves haven’t worked. I think he sits a trip and takes a share this time. (7) HELLO ROCKY, 4th in his last two starts, can take another slice here.

Race 3: CLM HDCP $14,000 to $18,000

(7) HAPUNA BEACH races off the claim but he faces easier. He will be the one to catch here. (6) CAPT JACK HANOVER will likely sit another pocket trip and he should be the one that the choice needs to fend off late; using. (4) U F BETTORS HANOVER passes horses every week to take shares and he should be in the exotics again here. (3) SNAP TEST is another closer that is likely to come on late again for a slice.

Race 4: 4YO and younger NW1 or $7,500 LT - Pick 4

(3) TYMAL ENVOY got the worst of it on debut, first having to take up heading to the 1/4 to avoid a breaker, then racing first up as the pace accelerated late. I’ll side with him here expecting a better trip. (9) RUSTYS BETT wasn’t asked to do much in that race but he finished with pace and he has upset potential in this second start. (6) FOUR BY FOUR chased down a leader that enjoyed slow splits in a good winning debut effort. He is a repeat candidate. (1) QUENTIN QUARANTINO was over bet at 1 to 9 but he got everything his own way and he couldn’t convert. I’ll play to beat him here as he will likely get over played again.

Race 5: Pop-Up series CLM $8,000 3rd Leg

(6) BEACH FIRE K was 2nd to streaking Royal Regatta last week now he gets Macdonald in the bike. I doubt he closes anywhere near his 6 to 1 morning line quote. (4) TOO MUCH DUNCAN is right there every week and his speed makes him a threat. (7) CHOREOGRAPHER showed more gate speed last week and while he was passed by the pocket sitter, he was well clear in third. He is another possibility for early multi-race tickets. (3) MACHO POLO should be good for another small share here.

Race 6: NEW HOLLAND TROTTING SERIES 2nd Leg - Pick 5

(2) PEMBERTON was a victim of pace last week. He is still the one to beat in this series and he should turn the tables on (1) SOUTHWIND ONCORE here. The latter was cleverly driven to win but he has been sharp for several weeks and he is the main threat right back. (3) FRANKS ANGEL, 3rd to the top two last week, can sit a trip and take another share. (4) HANDSOME SEBASTIAN was going well when he scratched sick more than a month ago. This is a tough spot and a small slice is likely his ceiling.

Race 7: NW $1,500 L3

(9) CAPTAIN BUTLER took some big early action at the windows last week and he raced well, but he was up against it from a trip/pace perspective. I’ll side with him here in this second start back. (1) BEACHIN LINDY is in considerably easier tonight, and he should be the one to fend off late here. (4) SUN CHIP raced better last week and he will likely be the one to catch here; using. (5) BAYFIELD BEACH is another that will likely show speed early in the mile again and he should take a slice.

Race 8: NW $4,000 L5 - Pick 4

(2) KOPI LUWAK got a start back vs. better after missing some time and he should improve sharply facing easier here; top call. (6) HESINCONTROL is also in easier and he gets Macdonald in the bike now. He should be right there vs. these. (1) HUNTER HILL was first up last week which isn’t his trip. He has upset possibilities here. (4) CONTROL THE POWER comes off a solid effort where he set strong fractions. He is another possibility.

Race 9: Horses that have started for a purse of $15K or less in 1 of L3

(7) TYMAL RIGGS gets Borth over the trainer in the bike tonight and he will likely get sent forward leaving the gate; top call. (3) EPIC DREAMER is in easier here and Roy sided with him over the choice. He will likely be the one to fend off late. (2) EDEN ONTHEHILL raced well in the women driver’s race and he gets Ratchford now and that driver has been doing well recently; price look. (4) LIKE CHAOS got Henry last week and he bottomed out the field. I’m not sure the same approach will work here, but his speed makes him a threat.

Race 10: CLM HDCP $19,000 to $24,000

(4) SWEET DEISEL was well meant last week and he had no problem taking care of business. He looks good to repeat here. (3) JJ TOMMY chased down a loose leader that set wild fractions then got tired late. The one he beat wasn’t great in his next start so I’d be careful to not take a short price here. (2) BIG BULLY was no match for the choice last week as the chalk. He likely takes another small share here. (1) SKYLAR should contend for a share here moving back into a claimer.

Race 11: NW $14,000 L5 or $25,750 L10 or NW7 or $110,000 LT AE: OPT CLM $70,000

(2) NASEY, picked off late in the mile last week, gets post advantage on the rival that beat him that day and he gets the nod to turn the tables. (1) DISTANCE LEARNING provided first-over cover for the choice but he couldn’t see it through to the wire. I think he gets a different trip here and he is a threat. (10) SOUTHWIND COORS showed his class last week winning off the shelf and he is a threat right back despite drawing widest. (3) WALKONTHEMOON should go better here moving to an inside post. I see him closing for a share. (8) ALL WRAPPED UP is another that will likely close late for a slice.
