Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Monday 2/10

John Rallis|Feb 07, 2025
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Top Pick Stats: 5-32 / (TBD)

Best Bets: 2-3 / (+$1.20)

Spot Plays: 1-3 / (+$14)

Best Bet: QUEBEC HANOVER (2nd Race)

Spot Play: KYLES ART (7th Race)

Early Pick 5: 5,6,7,9/4/4,5/1,5,7/6,8 = $9.60

Late Pick 5: 4,5,7/9/3,6,7/1,2/1,4,5 = $10.80

Pick 6: 1,5,7/6,8/4,5,7/9/3,6,7/1,2 = $18

Race 1: 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 1 RACE (WINNERS FOR A PURSE OF $9,000 OR LESS 2 RACES) OR $11,000 LIFETIME. *75,000 GTD PICK 5*

(9) DEVILS ARCH made a miscue right off the gate as the second-choice in his most recent try and never got a chance to race. This 5YO gelded son of Archangel was one I had pegged on top last week and I’m willing to go back in what I know will be an inflated price this evening. (5) BELLA CAVALLA was shuffled towards the back after electing to sit in, as opposed to being first up. She showed some interest late in the mile when she found a seam and looks poised for a good effort here. (7) R PEAKY BLINDERS scored convincingly in his latest try on a night where the track was given a 4-second variant. He moves up but stacks up well here off that effort. (6) COLD SNAPS was a strong second in her latest and has hit the board in 2 of her last 3. She’s in with a shot.

Race 2: PREFERRED.

(4) QUEBEC HANOVER bounced back with a victory in the Preferred after a lackluster try in that class a few weeks ago. He retains Louis-Philippe Roy here, who is 5 for 9 lifetime when guiding this son of Walner, and could even be as high as the third-choice in this contest. (5) AMIGO VOLO got away 4th and was unable to make steady gains when coming first up on the pace-setter. He draws a better spot on the gate and has proven that he can be a notch above this group when on his A-game. He’s back on a regular rotation and is one I’d single in multis as well. (6) NEW RULES was picked off by the pocket-sitter in what was yet another strong effort. He has been no worse than 3rd over his last 5 tries and merits respect. (2) FRANKS ANGEL finished fourth to round out the superfecta last week and he should have a good chance at hitting the ticket once again.

Race 3: CLAIMING HANDICAP $30,000 TO $40,000.

(5) B STONEY rallied nicely to be 3rd in his latest in what was his first start in three weeks (coming off a sick-scr). He does his better work when he’s close to the action and should be activated off the switch early and prove tough to beat if at his best. (4) TANGO SEELSTER had no chance in a 6th-place effort when he got away towards the back of the pack. He made steady gains in the lane and is one who has shown he can be a danger at this level if he works out a favorable trip. (6) PALLADIUM HANOVER has finished off miles very well but didn’t offer much pop in his latest when asked to leave out early from the 9-hole last week. This draw should be more of a benefit to him and he’s one who can prove as a danger if there’s speed to chase. (8) WRY will debut for a new trainer for the 5th consecutive start and is coming off four-straight, 2nd-place finishes. He’s been ultra consistent at this class and has proven he’s always in contention.

Race 4: NW $2,500 LAST 5 STARTS.

(1) MISTER MAGIC was able to score convincingly in his latest off a perfect two-hole trip, where he drew away from his rivals. This is a similar group he takes on and should be the one to beat. (7) BUCK DANCER got picked off in his latest by the one above and finished 3rd in the process. He should be summoned off the gate this evening and that alone makes him a threat in this contest. (5) VALUABLE MISS trotted the lane evenly when finding a seam late in the mile. She finds herself in a better spot but will need a trip to be in contention this evening. (6) CIEL BLEU never had a chance in his latest when getting away last off the car from pp10. He draws better but his racing style will still have him coming from off the pace here.

Race 5: CLAIMING HANDICAP $18,000 TO $24,000.

(8) JJ TOMMY came first up and went nose-to-nose with the pace-setter before tiring to be 5th. He was claimed out of that try and will now race out of the barn of Michelle Leblanc this evening. (6) HOWMAC VICTOR was able to sit a second over trip to the one above and go by for the score after he and the pace-setter waged war. He will be back in the Vic Puddy barn and has double-up potential. (7) DOUBLE DOWN DUKE was 2nd at this level two starts back and has put forth competitive tries when at this claiming class. He will race for Gerard Demers and should be in with a chance. (1) VINO LOUIE never had a chance in his latest but showed some solid go at the end of his mile; he hit the ticket here with the right trip.

Race 6: NW $14,000 LAST 5 OR NW $25,250 LAST 10 STARTS.

(5) PATRIARCH HANOVER just went around the track in what was a tougher spot for him last week. He draws well here and should hopefully have a helmet to chase, because that’s when he does his best work; top call. (4) PERFETTO drops down to a level where he should prove competitive, but will have to do it on the engine if he’s likely to score here. He will be tough should he get there. (7) ALL GAS NO BRAKES was an upset winner at this level two starts back but didn’t have much to offer last week. He will be tough with a trip. (8) SID THE KID was second at this level last time out but will have to take on a tougher group at this juncture overall; he can hit the ticket.

Race 7: CLAIMING HANDICAP $12,000 TO $16,000. ALLOWANCES FOR AGE & SEX.

(9) KYLES ART got a perfect steer in his latest to score. He got claimed out of that contest and will now race for trainer Shayne Barrington, and will be in-rein to James MacDonald, who should give this 5YO every chance to double-up. (3) RAYS KREDIT was following the one above but was gapping his cover a bit when doing so. He looked very good in the lane when he straightened out and will be heard from late. (2) HERESTHATMANAGAIN rallied nicely to be second in his latest and should be able to grab a big piece in here yet again. (5) GASCOIGNE SUNDAE worked out a perfect trip and didn’t fire despite that. He draws well here and can land on the ticket.

Race 8: NW $4,850 LAST 5 STARTS OR NW $12,950 LAST 10 STARTS.

(6) COLLECTOR S wasn’t able to fire despite an absolute perfect tow and was 3rd in a tight finish. He draws the middle of the gate this evening and might be able to turn the tables being back on a regular rotation in this spot. (3) MUSCLE FASHION went on a speed mission in what was his first start on the big track since December and should be tighter tonight. (7) VICTOR INVICTUS raced well to be 2nd in his latest and should once again be competitive in this group. (4) FIGHT SONG made his first start at the WEG circuit after shipping in from out East. He missed a few weeks of racing action coming in and should show improvement tonight.

Race 9: NW $33,150 IN 2024-25 (MIN 10 STARTS).

(2) EYES OF JUSTICE was one we pegged as our top choice last week and was a strong 2nd at odds of 26/1. He draws further inside tonight and should be able to work out a winning trip in this field of 8. (1) NO ANGEL LIKE ME is coming off a nice win when she was able to pick off her rivals late in the mile. She has one big move in her and if timed accordingly, she could have another date into the winner’s circle here. (6) WASTINGNOTIME made a break right off the gate in his latest in his first start for new trainer, Mitch Tierney. He was moving very well late in the mile two starts back and should be heard from late once again. (4) WHATS THE POINT looked good turning for home in her latest but came to a halt halfway down the stretch in a 3rd-place effort. This is a race that doesn’t appear to have much early speed and she should be good enough to secure another share here.

Race 10: N W $25,000 IN 2024-25 (MIN 10 STARTS) OR NOT AVERAGING $1,505 PER START IN 2024-25 (MIN 10 STARTS).

(5) PIPEWRENCH CHARLIE was summoned off the wings in his latest try from pp8 and tired, finishing 6th in that effort. He draws a more favorable post and proves he can be a big factor at this level. I’ll give him top honors to bounce back. (4) GENTLEONMYMIND was moving well late in the mile, but couldn’t get to the pace-setter who was able to go gate-to-wire that evening. He should be motoring home late and can secure a big piece. (1) CONTROL THE GOLD will debut here for the Chantal Mitchell barn after an okay, 4th place qualifying effort with JMac in the sulky. He opted for another rival in this contest and will pick up the services of Louis-Philippe Roy this evening, and is one I'm interested in monitoring. (6) HOWYOUPLAY THEGAME has picked up shares over his last three tries and has been racing well enough to grab another piece. (8) BEACHIN LINDY draws outside yet again, which will lessen his chance of a victory given his racing style. He can land on the ticket late.
